Recently, Wu Xiaoyin had been feeling a bit anxious, a kind of indescribable anxiety that made Lei Lu equally worried but unsure of how to comfort him. Lei Lu was so stressed that his lips began to blister.

Seeing this, Wu Xiaoyin felt a pang of affection, thinking that his big tiger could be adorably silly at times, which calmed his spirit. He pondered how to make next year’s hot and cold season easier, especially after Uncle Kun mentioned that the next hot season would be hotter and next cold season to be colder than usual.

For the first time, Wu Xiaoyin wished that the growth season would come slowly as to give him more time to think about how to improve life for Lei Lu, his father, and Xiao Kai and Bin.

However, the days still passed amidst heavy snow. The weather grew colder to the point where water was freezing. Lei Lu no longer let Xiao Xiao step outside.

Wu Xiaoyin pondered and didn’t feel that life was boring, especially after calming his mind. He felt happy in feeding Lei Lu every day with delicious food. Lei Lu appeared even more robust than before. Wu Xiaoyin couldn’t understand why despite all the good food he provided, Lei Lu’s abdominal muscles remained as strong as ever. He felt a twinge of jealousy. How could he eat so much and not gain weight?

In fact, the biggest issue now wasn’t food. Knowing that next cold season would be long, the beastmen had prepared plenty of food. But the other tribes were unaware of how to preserve food for extended periods. While exchanging some animal meat could help others, it wasn’t a long-term solution.

It seemed necessary to share the method of making cured meat with other tribes. Mastering the technique of salt production would ensure a steady supply of herbs and animal skins during exchange days. However, this could conflict with the interests of the Giant Snake Tribe to some extent. After all, they were known for their lack of goodwill, as seen with Ken during the previous exchange day.

So in the following days, aside from feeding his big tiger, Wu Xiaoyin spent his time sketching plans for stone houses and heated beds on giant sheep skins. These structures would use stone as a material, so they wouldn’t harm the ecosystem. He designed the stone house to fit Lei Lu’s beast form to allow him to roam without obstacles.

Regarding the hot season, Wu Xiaoyin felt that the temperature was similar to summer on Earth, perhaps even a bit cooler. After all, the high vegetation coverage here prevented the temperature to be abnormal due to heat island effect or phenomenon like El Niño.

But since the priest said that the next hot season would be unusually hot, drought could happen. It was a must to make early preparations. What would happen if there was no water to drink or wash with? It was really worrying!

To prepare, Wu Xiaoyin thought about making pottery. While stone tools were heavy and had poor thermal conductivity, they weren’t overly inconvenient, especially since the beastmen and females were strong enough to handle them. However, pottery had better water retention and was less prone to leaking. It could keep the water fresh for longer time. At that time, he would also need to find alum.

Having seen primitive pottery techniques during his travels in the southwest region, Wu Xiaoyin understood the basic principles but would still need to figure out the steps and find suitable clay.

Additionally, he needed to trade for more light gauze fabrics from the Giant Fox Tribe. Otherwise, wearing animal skins in hot weather could lead to heat rashes or even heatstroke. He also thought about finding cotton or linen to create summer clothing. Still, the cotton was still the best. It could serve both as summer clothes and warm materials. It was like two birds with one stone, so great!

While these thoughts were promising, looking at the snowy weather outside showed that there was still a long way to go. To prevent himself from forgetting his ideas, Wu Xiaoyin meticulously transcribed a list of materials needed for each season and organized them by time. Everything would be ready when the growth season arrived.

For an entire month, Wu Xiaoyin focused on overcoming the two major problems of the coming year. It was until one day that he heard joyous cheers and loud shouts outside the cave. Wu Xiaoyin suddenly realized that the growth season had arrived. But the snow was still falling outside, right? Why were people so certain about the arrival of the growth season?

Asking everything he didn’t understand was a good quality of Wu Xiaoyin. “How does everyone know the growth season is coming? What’s the evidence?”

Holding Xiao Xiao, Lei Lu explained slowly, “It’s because the snow is gradually starting to lighten. That’s a sign that the cold season is ending.”

Wu Xiaoyin was puzzled and asked, “But there have been times before when the snow stopped. Why does this time mark the arrival of the growth season?”
