By the time Wu Xiaoyin was able to get up, it was already three days later. Taking his three cubs for a morning stroll after breakfast, he noticed Kos carefully watching Xiao Kai, who was quickly making his way towards him. Upon seeing Wu Xiaoyin, he exclaimed, “Xiao Xiao! I was just looking for you!”

Wu Xiaoyin observed Xiao Kai’s hurried steps and understood Kos’s concern. At this fast speed, what if he didn’t see the way and stumbled? “Slow down and watch where you’re going. What do you need?”

Wu Xiaoyin pulled the cub beside his leg and reached to help Xiao Kai, but Xiao Kai deftly brushed off both his and Kos’s assistance. He was still very energetic. He said confidently, “No need to help me, I’m fine. I’m just greedy and want to eat what you cook. You know Kos and I aren’t great cooks, and now I only want to have a taste of the delicious food you cook. Actually, I’m not like this during the entire cold season, but ever since that spring outing when I had your delicious food, I can’t get enough. I think about it day and night. I can’t eat anything else. But trust me, it’s not just me wanting to eat. It’s the little one in my belly. Really, I swear.”

Xiao Kai patted his stomach and looked up at Wu Xiaoyin with exaggerated puppy eyes. What else could Wu Xiaoyin say? He could only pull Xiao Kai to walk more carefully and promised to cook for him.

The three cubs left behind—Lei Dian, Wu You, and Lei Huo— were unhappy. They kept circling around their dad’s feet, trying to get his attention. But Wu Xiaoyin was focused on Xiao Kai. He wanted to quickly prepare a meal for him. Otherwise, it wouldn’t matter if Xiao Kai was hungry, but what if the cub in Xiao Kai’s belly was hungry?

Lei Lu watched Xiao Kai devouring the food Xiao Xiao had made and felt increasingly annoyed. Even with Kos hovering nearby to remind him to be careful, the sharpness in Lei Lu’s eyes didn’t decrease a bit. After all, he rarely let Xiao Xiao cook for fear of him getting hurt. And now, the result was this! Heh!

Although Lei Lu wanted to throw Xiao Kai and Kos out, he held back. Xiao Kai was pregnant after all. He didn’t want to start trouble with Kos either. Otherwise, Xiao Kai would have a perfect excuse to come over for meals. So, he swallowed his frustration.

Lei Lu hoped this situation wouldn’t become a recurring thing. But as the hot season approached, it only worsened. Xiao Kai’s cravings became uncontrollable. The cub in Xiao Kai’s belly only wanted food made by Xiao Xiao. Anything else would just make him suffer. The result was that Xiao Kai would vomit the food, which made Xiao Kai and Kos tired.

On the other hand, Wu Xiaoyin didn’t mind much. Since Lei Lu had usually done the cooking, he could only busy himself with models, drawing, and as such. He found joy in making meals for his family and friends now. Besides, he felt happy as long as Lei Lu didn’t disturb him at night!

He originally thought this cooking routine would last until the next growth season. He even expected that Xiao Kai would give birth and things would settle down. Little did he know that an unexpected event would bring the days forward. Wu Xiaoyin hoped that life could be the same as usual, rather than what like now.

What exactly happened? It all began one evening as the harvest season arrived. The weather was cooling down, and Xiao Kai’s cub was relatively calm. Thanks to Wu Xiaoyin’s careful feeding, Xiao Kai had gained some weight. But when Bin brought Kola to visit Xiao Kai, he quickly stopped Xiao Kai from overindulging.

Bin knew all too well the consequences of excessive eating during pregnancy because he suffered a lot when Kola was born. Kola was born larger than usual cubs, causing him much hardship. Now seeing Xiao Kai even bulkier than when he was about to give birth to Kola, he quickly warned, “Xiao Kai, you can’t keep eating like this. Otherwise, you’ll regret it when it’s time to give birth.”

Xiao Kai burped contentedly and accepted Kos’s attentive care. He wiped his mouth and washed his hands, then replied, “What’s the big deal? If it comes down to it, I’ll just get cut open. I saw that uncle who had a difficult birth last time. He’s doing fine now after the cesarean section.”

Wu Xiaoyin frowned and said, “Xiao Kai, you should stop eating like this, or else you will suffer when giving birth. You should really try to give birth naturally. Cesarean sections are much more harmful to your body, especially with our conditions. You’ll have a tough time later.”

Looking at the serious expressions on Xiao Xiao and Bin’s faces, Kos promised nervously, “I’ll keep an eye on Xiao Kai and won’t let him overeat again. But what if he gets hungry? He has to eat.”

Wu Xiaoyin explained, “It’s not about not letting Xiao Kai eat. He just needs to stop when he feels full. After eating, he should take a walk.”

Bin nodded in agreement, so Xiao Kai developed a habit of walking after meals.

That day, Wu Xiaoyin was pestered by the four cubs wanting fried fish, so after dinner, Bin took Xiao Kai for a walk around Wu Xiaoyin’s house. Unexpectedly, they encountered Le, who looked quite disheveled and had clearly been expelled from the tribe. Le’s eyes were bloodshot.

Bin immediately pulled Xiao Kai back, but Le grabbed Xiao Kai, causing him to fall to the ground. Xiao Kai’s face turned pale. With no other tribe members around, Bin shouted loudly. The beastmen would definitively hear him.

Hearing Bin’s shout seemed to snap Le back to reality. The redness in his eyes faded a lot. A flicker of fear crossed his face as he ran away, leaving the helpless Bin and the unconscious Xiao Kai behind.
