Soon, the harvest season arrived. The females of the tribe finally shed their tiger costumes. Aside from being cute, the costumes had no other practical value, and they felt quite stuffy during the hot summer. However, the temperature in the Giant Tiger Tribe didn’t exceed 30°C, which had returned to the normal temperature of the hot season, so it was still bearable.

As the harvest season came, every household was busy gathering various fruits and wild vegetables, dragging along long tails and cute ears, which became quite cumbersome. So the females decisively removed their tiger outfits, while the males looked at the abandoned costumes with a sense of regret.

Wu Xiaoyin’s body had recovered well over this long period. He had nearly regained the weight he had lost. Although he was still a bit thinner than before, his complexion looked good. On the gathering day, even his dad and the tribe chief’s female Uncle Hen, who hadn’t been seen for a while, were pleased with how well Lei Lu had taken care of Xiao Xiao.

“Xiao Xiao, you look much healthier now. Your face is rosy,” Uncle Hen said with a smile while examining Wu Xiaoyin.

Xi examined Wu Xiaoyin closely and held his hand. He nodded in agreement and said, “It looks like Lei Lu has taken good care of Xiao Xiao. That boy is doing well!”

Wu Xiaoyin felt a bit uncomfortable with the topic about his weight and quickly changed the subject. “Dad, Uncle Hen, how’s the watermelon salt made from the giant watermelons this year? Have the giant rice and giant cabbages been harvested yet?”

Hen was well aware of these matters and replied, “Your Uncle Kun organized the beastmen and females to gather the crops early. A couple of days ago, they were spread out in the square to dry. You child, you spend all day cooped up in your house. No wonder your health hasn’t improved.”

Xi nodded in agreement and added, “Exactly. If you stay cooped up all day without exercising, how can you expect to feel better?”

Seeing his dad and Uncle Hen contradicting their earlier statements, Wu Xiaoyin could only think that they meant well and nodded in cooperation to show his understanding.

However, thinking about the giant rice and giant watermelons made Wu Xiaoyin a bit anxious. He wondered when others from different tribes would find out about them. Previously, he had thought about how to promote agricultural practices. Now a great opportunity had come up. He asked casually, “Uncle Hen, how is the yield of the giant rice and giant watermelons?”

Hen looked puzzled and asked, “What do you mean by yield?”

Wu Xiaoyin scratched his head and explained, “Oh, I wasn’t clear. I mean, can the giant rice and giant watermelons be enough for the entire tribe during the cold season?”

Thinking it over, Hen replied, “The amount of giant rice should be sufficient, but the production was affected in the past two years. So this year, we set aside more, hoping for a better harvest next year. Otherwise, with more and more tribe members, it won’t be enough.”

“As for the giant watermelons, a lot of the watermelon salt has been used to preserve animal meat, and we also use it daily. Kun even mentioned trading some coarse salt with the Giant Snake Tribe during this year’s Exchange Day. Actually, coarse salt is better for preserving meat because it lasts longer, but the watermelon salt is more suitable for everyday use. It makes the stir-fried dishes really fragrant.”

Hearing this, Wu Xiaoyin realized that the tribe’s demand for giant rice and watermelon salt had been steadily increasing. But due to the climate anomalies of recent years, the yield had decreased. He took the opportunity to suggest, “Uncle Hen, I actually have a method to increase the yield of giant rice and giant watermelons, but it’s too late for this year. Would you be interested in trying it?”

Hen and Xi immediately sensed that Xiao Xiao had a good idea and asked in unison, “What’s your idea? You can tell us!”

Wu Xiaoyin wasn’t entirely sure about the specifics of planting crops but shared his theoretical knowledge, “Well, since we can grow the giant rice and giant watermelons ourselves, we just need to save the seeds this year. In the next growth season, we can select the largest and most filled seeds as quality seeds and then start breeding them to sprout before planting them in the fields. Just make sure to water and fertilize them in time.”

Wu Xiaoyin thought about the resilient life force of plants in this world. This plan might just work, especially since it didn’t require the intensive farming methods needed on Earth like maintaining paddy fields or transplanting. There were not many vegetables in daily life. After all, rice is derived from vegetables, and it’s a combination of rice and wheat. One couldn’t apply common reasoning here.

While his explanation sounded good, it was still just theoretical. The actual execution would have to wait until next year’s growth season. Wu Xiaoyin merely wanted to give Uncle Hen a heads-up so they wouldn’t be rushed when the time came. He didn’t want Uncle Hen to struggle to find people to help with the task later.

As they talked and picked fruits, Wu Xiaoyin quickly filled a small bamboo basket with his favorite fruits. After saying goodbye to his dad and Uncle Hen, he was carried home by Lei Lu, who had just returned from hunting.
