Transmigrating to the Beastman Continent to Live a Happy Life - Chapter 123
It was rare opportunity to have some leisure time, so Wu Xiaoyin prepared a feast for everyone under Lei Lu’s watchful gaze: beggar’s chicken, secret grilled fish, salt and pepper spare ribs, honey-roasted meat, and taro sweet soup. Kola ate so much that he was burping and didn’t want to let go. After finishing, Kola wanted to cling to Wu Xiaoyin, but under Lei Lu’s “brutal hand”, he could only stick out his butt pitifully and threw himself into his father’s arms.
After the cold season, Wu Xiaoyin noticed that the river’s water level was nearing normal. This boost his confidence for the upcoming hot season.
Once everyone finished eating and rested, the males accompanied their females to search for edible wild vegetables. The wild greens were tender now, great for salads, soups, and stir-fried dishes. During the search, Xiao Kai suddenly shouted with excitement. Kos hurriedly asked, “What’s wrong? What’s wrong?”
Xiao Kai pulled the plant he found, then used his other hand to grab Kos. He rushed towards Wu Xiaoyin. “Xiao Xiao, look. Is this the plant called corn you drew on the animal skin scroll?”
Wu Xiaoyin took the plant from Xiao Kai’s hand, examined it for a moment, and replied, “Yes, Xiao Kai, your eyes are amazing. This is indeed a corn seedling!”
Xiao Kai looked up proudly and said with some pride, “Of course. Look at me, my eyesight can rival that of a giant eagle.”
Kos chuckled at his Xiao Kai’s arrogant face, then smiled foolishly and said nothing.
Wu Xiaoyin handed the corn seedling to Lei Lu and asked, “Lei Lu, have you seen where this plant grows?”
Lei Lu inspected it closely, shook his head, and glanced at Feng and Kos, who also seemed unfamiliar with it. He replied, “Xiao Xiao, we haven’t seen this corn before, but we can search the whole area to see if there are more seedlings. Then we can give them to Uncle Kun and ask the males to look for them while hunting. With so many of us searching, we should be able to find some.”
Thus, the group’s spring outing ended with Kola’s reluctant and chdish howl.
However, the search for corn wasn’t as fortunate. Wu Xiaoyin thought that it might have been brought here by flying birds or animals, and there might not be any corn growing nearby. He didn’t worry too much since during this growth season, he had been diligently collecting spring bamboo shoots, lettuce, cabbage, bayberries, peaches, and other edible wild vegetables and fruits.
When Wu Xiaoyin finished organizing the pickled vegetables, sauerkraut, dried vegetables, fruit preserves, and candied fruits for Lei Lu to store in their basement and storage room, the hot season began to show its power!
Under the scorching sun, Lei Lu and his two companions formed a small team for their daily hunting activities. With the intense heat, the prey either hid underground, underwater, or in the bushes. This made it difficult to track their movements and also increased the challenge of hunting.
The three waited quietly for a giant bull beast to rest under a tree by the river, hoping to take advantage of the moment when it was relaxed to strike with precision. However, an unexpected disturbance occurred.
A female’s scream shattered the three men’s plan to take advantage of the gap in the river water to hunt the giant bull. Lei Lu and the other two remained still. They watched the frantic female and the giant pig beast chasing after him.
With the beastmen’s keen eyesight, they quickly recognized the females as Xin and Le, members of the Giant Tiger Tribe. They exchanged glances, feeling confused but also cautious.
Why was a female appearing in a male hunting area without any males accompanying him? Wasn’t this akin to seeking death?
As they watched Xin fall to the ground, Feng acted first and took down the giant pig beast in one swift move. The warm blood splattered onto Xin and Le’s faces, prompting another round of screams from Xin.
However, the three ignored his cries. Once Xin’s screams subsided, Lei Lu and Kos emerged from their hiding place in the bushes to join Feng. Lei Lu focused his gaze on Xin and Le and asked, “How did you end up here? The males on patrol in the tribe wouldn’t let you out alone, would they?”
Seeing Lei Lu, Xin tried to get up but hurt his foot and fell again. Looking at the cold and unresponsive Lei Lu, he felt tears welling up. “Lei Lu, my foot is hurt. Can you take me back?”
Lei Lu noticed that Xin didn’t directly answer his question and said, “Let Feng carry you back. Don’t come out without a male escort next time. You won’t always be so lucky.”
Watching the two in a pitiful state, Kos smiled and said, “Hurry up and let Feng carry you back. We need to continue hunting. You interrupted us earlier, we don’t have time to take you back!”
Xin looked at Lei Lu who was slowly walking away, gripping a battered plum blossom in his hand. He plucked off all the petals in frustration and turned to Feng. “Hurry up and help me up! Can’t you see I’m hurt?”
Meanwhile, Le, who had been silent, lowered his head and watched the two walking away, lost in thought.
