Transmigrating to the Beastman Continent to Live a Happy Life - Chapter 107
The temperature in the hot season had soared to 40 degrees Celsius, an unprecedented heat for the Giant Tiger Tribe. All the females and cubs had stopped venturing out during the hottest times of the day. They only dared to enjoy the outdoors in the early morning or evening. Days passed quickly yet felt long.
As they entered the fourth month of the hot season, the harvest season was approaching. Thankfully, most wild vegetables and fruits remained largely unaffected. While some shade-loving plants looked a bit wilted, they persevered. This was really an excellent news for the tribe. This meant that the heat in the hot season wouldn’t have a big impact on the upcoming harvest season, and that herbivores would have enough food. Consequently, the populations of carnivorous and omnivorous animals, as well as herbivores, would also be plentiful.
Especially in the fourth month of the hot season, the temperature began to gradually decrease. This allowed tribe members to be more active during the morning or afternoon. Food supplies were once again abundant, thanks to the tales of giant chicken and giant duck beasts.
The tribe decided to include giant chicken and duck beasts in their hunting range. After all, who could resist the allure of beggar’s chicken?
From then on, no beastman was mocked for catching giant chicken beasts. It became a source of pride, especially for those disabled beastmen. This allowed them to support themselves without feeling ashamed!
Wu Xiaoyin sensed an increased warmth in the tribe’s attitude toward him, leaving him feeling a bit confused but nonetheless happy as he greeted everyone.
Lei Lu enjoyed seeing Xiao Xiao in this light and kept quiet. He just loved how adorable his Xiao Xiao looked.
Today, Wu Xiaoyin and Lei Lu planned a picnic with Xiao Kai, Kos, Bin, and Feng. It had been a while since they ate a meal outdoors while enjoying the scenery. Wu Xiaoyin expressed his longing for such an atmosphere, and naturally Lei Lu agreed. They made an appointment with Xiao Kai, Kos, Bin, and Feng and set out together.
Soon, they arrived by the river in the northern forest. The once gentle flow of water was now raging. As someone who had never seen the sea in his life, Wu Xiaoyin marveled at the spectacle of the river. He wondered what the sea must look like.
Having always chosen inland cities for his travels, Wu Xiaoyin suddenly felt a tinge of regret but reminded himself that he might get to see the sea one day. He looked at Lei Lu beside him and thought, well, it would be great to be able to see the sea once on this life!
However, as he noticed the river water level was less than 50 centimeters from the riverbank, Wu Xiaoyin’s expression darkened. It felt as though with another heavy rain, the water could easily flood into the tribe.
Wu Xiaoyin was initially in high spirits, but he found his meal tasteless. He stared worriedly at the surging river.
Sure enough, good things don’t work and bad things do. Rain began to fall that evening and continued for two full days. The tribe members shifted from being happy to anxious later. They knew that prolonged rain could easily rot wild vegetables and fruits, which was bad news for the females!
By the third day, the river water was about to overflow the riverbanks. The tribe chief quickly decided that all beastmen, except for those left behind to do patrol, would begin digging the riverbed. Clearly, he had kept Wu Xiaoyin’s earlier suggestion in mind, though he didn’t expect the previous widening would still be not enough. Now they could only dig in rain.
Thinking of Lei Lu braving the rain to dig the riverbed, Wu Xiaoyin prepared ginger soup with dried spicy fruits, keeping it warm to make sure Lei Lu would have something hot to drink when he returned. Although males were generally strong, they couldn’t withstand prolonged exposure to the rain and intensive physical labor.
Every night when Lei Lu returned, he appeared a bit pale. The rain persisted for an entire half month. As soon as the rain stopped, the Beastman Continent welcomed the harvest season earlier than usual.
The Giant Tiger Tribe managed to hold the riverbank this time and avoided the losses experienced a hundred years ago. So when the rain finally stopped, Wu Xiaoyin was startled awake by the sounds of beast roars echoing throughout the tribe in the middle of the night. How could he not be scared?
In the end, the females dragged their partners by the ears back into their homes. For beastmen, ears were a sensitive spot, making this really a sweet torture!
After being startled awake, Wu Xiaoyin was comforted in Lei Lu’s arms. “It’s nothing, the rain stopped. The beastmen are just excited about the upcoming harvest. Even they found the heavy rain exhausting, plus they had to dig the riverbed. That’s why the beastmen are happy.”
“I know, you all worked hard. Thankfully, the river didn’t flood our tribe and we suffered no losses. Now we can focus on the harvest, right?” Wu Xiaoyin yawned and asked.
“Yes, it will likely be busier. But Xiao Xiao, you mustn’t overexert yourself. We have enough supplies to last until the end of the next growth season. Just look at how thin you’ve become. During the harvest and the cold season, you need to eat a lot of food. You need to gain back your weight. I can feel your bones when I hold you,” Lei Lu said, filled with heartache.
Before Wu Xiaoyin could respond, he had already drifted off to sleep. Lei Lu looked down at Xiao Xiao sleeping peacefully and smiled with satisfaction. This was good. If Xiao Xiao could just gain a bit more weight, it would be even better!
