Leaving the dining hall, Ouyang Fei and Bian’s mother went to a side hall to attend evening prayers with the monks; Shang’s father and the other men had their own conversation and didn’t join them.

Around 8 pm, everyone was tired, and Ouyang Fei and Bian’s mother returned to their rooms.

“I should have asked them to arrange for us to share a room; we could have chatted all night,” Ouyang Fei said regretfully.

Bian’s mother patted her arm, “It’s okay; I’ll just send my husband to sleep with yours.”

“Hahaha, that’s great.”

At the door of their rooms, Ouyang Fei said she would check on Shang Qinghui, and Bian’s mother said she would check on Bian Yingning.

They knocked on the nearby doors.

After a while, Bian Yingning’s room door opened slightly, and Bian Yingning’s voice came from inside, “Who is it?”

Bian’s mother: “It’s your mother.”

Ouyang Fei: “…”

Ouyang Fei knocked on Shang Qinghui’s door, but there was no response. Frowning, she was about to try opening the door when Bian Yingning’s room door opened a crack, and Bian Yingning’s voice came from inside, “Mom?”

Looking over, Bian Yingning’s face was visible; her daughter’s face was pressed against hers, like candied haws on a stick.

Bian’s mother was stunned; their relationship… was this good?

“You…” Ouyang Fei reacted, her heart filled with joy, but she pretended to disapprove, “Qinghui, it’s late; why are you bothering your sister Ningning? Let her rest.”

She even used “sister.”

“What’s wrong? It’s good for young girls to play together. You’re too strict,” Bian’s mother said, mediating.

Bian Yingning and Shang Qinghui were in the same position, tilting their heads, only their eyes visible.

“Mom, Auntie, what’s wrong?” Bian Yingning asked, breaking the conversation.

“Nothing. We were just worried and came to see what you were doing,” Bian’s mother replied.

“Uh… we… we were playing a game,” Shang Qinghui whispered, having been pinched on her butt.

“Okay, okay. Have fun, but don’t stay up too late.”

Ouyang Fei smiled, taking Bian’s mother’s arm, “Let’s go play too,” then added, “Don’t wander around late at night; be careful.”

Children are always children to their parents.

“Got it…”

“Young people are so easygoing; they get along so quickly,” they said as they walked towards their rooms.

“Maybe they’ve been hanging out without us knowing. Ningning said they studied together at the school café during finals week.”

“Yeah, they hid it well.”

Ouyang Fei and Bian’s mother both wondered why their daughters weren’t close before. They didn’t mention it, maintaining their smiles as they went to their rooms.

After they left, Bian Yingning closed the door. Before she could lock it, Shang Qinghui pinched her butt.

She retaliated, gritting her teeth, “Why did you pinch me?!”

“Ouch…” Bian Yingning whispered, holding her butt, looking aggrieved, “I didn’t know what to say, okay!!!”

Shang Qinghui rolled her eyes, sitting on the bed, “This bed is so hard; how am I supposed to sleep?”

Bian Yingning, touching her swollen lips, approached, “Take your blanket; we’ll use one as a mattress and one as a cover.”

She met Shang Qinghui’s shocked gaze. Shang Qinghui’s lips were also swollen; her face flushed; she stammered, “Bian… Bian Yingning, you’re shameless! In a temple, you…”

She couldn’t continue.

Bian Yingning: “…”

“What did I say? I just asked you to bring your blanket; you said the bed was hard; what’s wrong with your brain?!”

Shang Qinghui looked away, “It’s none of your business… and it’s not that simple.”

After their confession in the main hall, their adrenaline subsided; they felt embarrassed.

They had been so disrespectful in front of the Buddha. They practically fled.

Back in Bian Yingning’s room, they felt awkward, unable to look at each other. Bian Yingning lit the brazier; the room warmed up.

Their eyes met; things escalated quickly.

Bian’s mother and Shang’s mother knocked on the door, interrupting them. Seeing their swollen lips, both was shocked; they couldn’t continue avoiding each other; they opened the door, hearts pounding.

That’s why they only showed their eyes earlier.

“Hmph.” Bian Yingning locked the door, going to the bed and looking at Shang Qinghui.

Shang Qinghui looked away. The bed wasn’t high; Shang Qinghui could touch Bian Yingning’s head by leaning down slightly.

“Did you hear what your mother said?” Bian Yingning whispered.

Shang Qinghui looked at her, slightly confused, “Wh… what?”

“Your mother said I’m yours, Sister Ningning.”

Bian Yingning drawled the last two words; Shang Qinghui felt a blush creep up her neck; the air felt thin.

“You wish!”

“Heh,” Bian Yingning chuckled,  “Hehe, the things I think of are indeed beautiful hehehe.”

Shang Qinghui: “…” Crazy.

Bian Yingning was close, talking about this; Shang Qinghui felt breathless; she moved to create distance.

Bian Yingning suddenly remembered something; she grabbed Shang Qinghui’s collar, pulling her closer.

Shang Qinghui was startled, “Are… are we still playing this game?”

It was too exciting.

Bian Yingning ignored her, lifting her collar, revealing the mark.

She rubbed it; it was a real mark, not drawn.

“Did you bump into something?” Bian Yingning’s smile vanished; her face turned serious.

Shang Qinghui pursed her lips, trying to remain expressionless, “No.”

… Silence filled the room, only their breaths audible. After a while, Bian Yingning released her, asking softly, “Who did this?”

She didn’t see Shang Qinghui’s radiant smile.

“Tuntun.”

“Tuntun…” Bian Yingning repeated, “That name…”

Strange. Who has that name?

“Do I know him?” Bian Yingning’s voice was low; she was unhappy. Her chest felt tight.

Had they done more than just leave a mark?

Quickly, a slender hand lifted Bian Yingning’s head. Bian Yingning was startled; Shang Qinghui lifted her head, seeing her sadness.

Then, she saw Shang Qinghui’s smiling face.

Shang Qinghui leaned down; their faces were inches apart; she seemed to be explaining seriously.

“I don’t think you know it, but I can introduce you. It has a bad temper; it only listens to me; my brother and mother can’t get close to it. It likes small yellow fish and beef. If you want to get close to it, give it those.”

Bian Yingning blinked. Shang Qinghui blinked back.

Bian Yingning hesitantly asked, “What kind of animal is it?”

“Silver tabby cat.”

…

Just a cat?

Bian Yingning looked at the mark on Shang Qinghui’s neck; her sadness vanished; she became fierce.

She lunged forward, pinning Shang Qinghui to the bed, “The cat did this?!”

Shang Qinghui’s face flushed; she turned her head; her collar was loose; her neck was visible. She hummed softly.

She bit her lip; her neck strained; her hands clenched the bedding.

Hot breath on her skin; teeth grazed her already red and purple skin. A soft tongue licked her; she gasped. Her heart was pounding.

She felt like meat on a cutting board, at the mercy of the butcher.

Last night, knowing she couldn’t bring Tuntun to the temple, Shang Qinghui cuddled with it; feeling down, she wanted Tuntun to sleep with her.

Tuntun licked her, then gently bit her neck. Maybe it was upset about being left alone.

Shang Qinghui noticed it in the middle of the night; she was stunned. Her first hickey was from a cat.

It must have been taught bad habits! Shang Qingfeng came to mind.

But not now.

Shang Qinghui pushed Bian Yingning away. Bian Yingning almost fell off the bed; before she could ask what happened, she was pinned down.

“Hiss…” Bian Yingning gasped, touching her back, “You’re right; this bed is hard.”

Shang Qinghui pinched Bian Yingning’s face, distorting it; her mouth became a duck’s beak.

“Where were you the night after the exam?”

Remembering her bad mood, she remembered this.

This flirt had stayed out all night!

Bian Yingning was stunned, “I…”

She had gone to Hua Cancan’s house for hot pot and drinks; but those words sounded suspicious. It was just the two of them; she was in trouble.

“I…”

Seeing Bian Yingning hesitate, Shang Qinghui got up to leave. Bian Yingning pulled her back, hugging her, “I went to Hua Cancan’s for hot pot and drinks; I slept over…”

Shang Qinghui didn’t speak; she tried to get away; Bian Yingning hugged her tighter, her chin on her shoulder, “Really. Don’t doubt me; I didn’t do anything.”

Her voice was aggrieved and innocent. Shang Qinghui gritted her teeth; who would believe her?

“You slept with her?”

“No!” Bian Yingning denied vehemently, “It’s not a small house; I slept in the guest room!”

Shang Qinghui wasn’t sure whether to believe her.

“What about the next day?”

“The next day… her aunt came and sent me home; Cancan was still asleep; she didn’t know I left.”

Aunt?

Shang Qinghui stopped struggling, “…Do you think I’ll believe you?”

Bian Yingning rubbed against her shoulder, “It’s okay if you don’t believe me; there must be security cameras; I’ll get the footage; then you can believe me.”

After a while, Shang Qinghui hummed, “And her aunt’s dashcam footage.”

Bian Yingning: “…” She really didn’t believe me!

Bian Yingning pinched Shang Qinghui’s waist, “Damn woman!”

Shang Qinghui slapped her. Bian Yingning said, “Mmm? How did you know I wasn’t home that night?”

Shang Qinghui avoided her gaze.

Guilty!

“Mm?” Bian Yingning asked again, “How did you know? Did you follow me?”

That was a serious accusation; Shang Qinghui exploded, “Who followed you? I… I went for a drive that morning; I saw you being dropped off.”

Bian Yingning didn’t believe her, “Such a coincidence?”

“Yes!”

Bian Yingning still looked at her suspiciously.

Shang Qinghui got angry.

“What are you looking at? I’m telling you! I couldn’t sleep because you took advantage of me while I was drunk and acted as if nothing happened; I was annoyed, so I went to find you!”

Shang Qinghui turned her head, bumping her elbow against Bian Yingning. It felt soft. She realized what she had touched; she froze.

“Mmm…” Bian Yingning groaned behind her, “You said this is a temple; yet you did this; you’re hypocritical.”

Shang Qinghui wanted to kill her.

Bian Yingning moved Shang Qinghui’s hair, revealing the mark; the hickey had become larger.

Thinking it was hers, she felt happy.

“You remember?” Bian Yingning didn’t deny it.

“I can’t be blamed that night; you seduced me; what could I do? If I didn’t do anything, I’d be useless.”

She hadn’t mentioned it later because she wanted Shang Qinghui to speak first. But Shang Qinghui had no memory; she had wanted to get close but was hesitant.

Bian Yingning lowered her voice, “Remember? You grabbed my hand and put it on your…”

She touched Shang Qinghui again. Shang Qinghui’s body tensed. She remembered that night.

“Ugh…”

Someone pinched her; Shang Qinghui gasped. It wasn’t where she had touched Bian Yingning; it was her stomach.

Bian Yingning felt something; Shang Qinghui gasped.

“I… I think I touched something.” Bian Yingning was worried she had hurt Shang Qinghui.

“My navel piercing,” Shang Qinghui said; it wasn’t painful.

“Navel… navel… piercing?” Bian Yingning trembled.

“Mm-hmm,” Shang Qinghui said strangely, “Does that bother you?”

Bian Yingning’s adrenaline surged; her hands trembled, “No! It’s fine. It’s… what… what kind of…”

“It’s a black diamond,” Shang Qinghui said, thinking. She always wore it when going out, in case she was kidnapped.

It had a tracker.

“Gulp——”

A loud swallowing sound.

Hot breath on her ear; someone whispered, “Can I… take a closer look?”

“I swear, I’ll just look; I won’t do anything.”

Shang Qinghui: “…” That made it worse.

“It’s a temple.”

“I don’t care. I have just prayed to the Buddha for love. The closer we are, the happier she will be.”

“…”

I’m done with you.
