Let me know what you think! Rate and comment if you liked it, otherwise, no worries."

Bian Yingning didn’t expect her to know what happened, so she casually replied, “Nothing…”

“You wouldn’t still be thinking about my reaction back then, would you?”

“Good girl, you care about your daddy. I’m so moved.”

Bian Yingning smiled playfully at Shang Qinghui.

Shang Qinghui looked at her quietly.

At that moment, she really couldn’t see through her.

She recalled hearing Bian Yingning’s cries at the door, contrasting with her current smile.

“No, please, don’t do this to me, don’t do this.”

Shang Qinghui stared into Bian Yingning’s eyes, as if trying to see into her heart, to see through her soul.

The smile on Bian Yingning’s face froze.

“You know everything?” Leaning back on the bed, she looked up at Shang Qinghui.

“Is it true?” Shang Qinghui asked.

Bian Yingning’s eyelashes fluttered, “Then… what do you think?”

Shang Qinghui didn’t speak.

Bian Yingning chuckled self-deprecatingly. Before the smile faded, she heard Shang Qinghui say,

“I’ll only believe what you say.”

So, even a spoiled brat can be tamed.

She said she only believes what I say.

Bian Yingning smiled again, this time without self-deprecation.

“Then why did you come?”

Since she knew what happened, it meant she wasn’t kicked out but came to ask her.

“To care for me?”

A fleeting question.

The villa was well-insulated; the room was quiet.

So quiet that nothing disturbed them.

Bian Yingning could feel her face getting hot, becoming uncomfortable.

She knew her face and ears were flushed.

“Is that not okay?”

Just as Bian Yingning thought Shang Qinghui wouldn’t answer and was about to change the subject, she heard Shang Qinghui say this.

As if she hadn’t heard clearly, Bian Yingning looked up at her.

Shang Qinghui took a step closer, reducing the distance between them: “I care about you. Is that not okay?”

Bian Yingning stared at her blankly.

Perhaps because of their usual bickering and playful banter, this serious conversation felt awkward.

Her heart felt like it was being held, unable to beat properly.

She didn’t know how to react.

“Bian Yingning,” Shang Qinghui called her.

Even though they were looking at each other, she still called her name.

“Hmm?” Bian Yingning responded softly.

“Did you go whoring?”

“…No.”

Shang Qinghui took another step closer.

Her body blocked the overhead light, casting a shadow on Bian Yingning.

When Bian Yingning looked up, she seemed to be glowing.

“Do you hate me?”

“…No.”

Taking another step, Shang Qinghui blocked all the light from Bian Yingning.

Their knees touched.

It was a simple touch, but Bian Yingning felt a tingling sensation, as if she’d been electrocuted.

Was there still residual electricity from earlier?

“Then, do you still want…” Shang Qinghui’s lips were bitten red; the rest of her words seemed difficult to utter. She paused.

Bian Yingning’s hands, resting on the bed, were unconsciously clutching the sheets.

“Yes.”

One word, soft as could be, as if any more force would make everything seem unreal.

Bian Yingning didn’t know what Shang Qinghui wanted to ask, but her heart told her—at this moment, she wanted to say that word.

Step by step, slowly.

Excellent hunters always have the patience.

Shang Qinghui looked at her intently, her hair falling smoothly behind her.

She moved, kneeling on the bed, then the other knee.

She stood up, Bian Yingning trapped in her shadow.

Bian Yingning looked up at her.

Shang Qinghui’s hands rested on Bian Yingning’s shoulders.

She seemed to be under a spell.

In this world, all her mission targets asked her,

“What is your purpose?”

Only she said, “I believe everything you say.”

Shang Qinghui sat down, on Bian Yingning’s lap.

Her legs were around Bian Yingning’s waist.

Feeling the weight, Bian Yingning wanted to escape, but then the familiar floral scent came.

Her pajamas were soft and comfortable, and so was she.

“Then, I’ll give you the hug you want.”

Bian Yingning stopped moving.

Shang Qinghui leaned closer, hugging her.

A closer, tighter, deeper hug than before.

She felt incredibly soft, nestled in her arms.

Slowly, like an old robot without oil, Bian Yingning raised her hands.

One arm went around Shang Qinghui’s waist, the other hand on her shoulder.

Then, slowly, she tightened her grip, hugging her tightly.

A soft face against her ear, heads touching, bodies close.

Bian Yingning suddenly thought, it would be nice if this moment lasted longer.

She didn’t know how they got to this point.

Whether it was mutual understanding, mutual comfort, or a culmination of love-hate…

She didn’t dislike this moment.

Just a simple, warm hug.

That’s all.

…

She called a driver to take Shang Qinghui home in her car, with a bodyguard following. This provided protection and allowed them to bring the driver back.

“Sleep well.”

Bian Yingning said softly to Shang Qinghui at the car window.

Shang Qinghui lowered her head; her ears and face were still flushed.

“Hmm,” she nodded.

The night was deep, and the wind was cold.

A gust of wind blew, and Bian Yingning, without thinking, instinctively brushed a strand of hair from Shang Qinghui’s face.

Both were startled.

Bian Yingning withdrew her hand, “Go,” she told the driver.

The pink car drove away until it was out of sight.

Bian Yingning pursed her lips and smiled involuntarily.

She didn’t know why.

…

“Zhenghao, are the files from last night’s operation organized and archived?”

Someone called Duanmu Zhenghao at the police station.

“Yes, team leader.”

Duanmu Zhenghao stood up and handed over a stack of files.

“Okay, good work,” the team leader said warmly.

Duanmu Zhenghao laughed heartily, “No problem, it’s my job.”

The team was harmonious.

After the team leader left the superior’s office, Duanmu Zhenghao quietly went in.

Returning home, he gave an envelope to Duanmu Zhengjie.

Duanmu Zhengjie took it, feeling its thickness.

“I’ve taken care of everything,” Duanmu Zhenghao said obediently.

“Hmm, good job. Tell him I owe him a favor,” Duanmu Zhengjie took the envelope and returned to her room.

Duanmu Zhenghao was puzzled. He didn’t understand why his sister did that, but he knew to obey.

Perhaps there was something he didn’t know.

He hadn’t expected his sister, who he admired, to have a secret with Bian Yingning.

Duanmu Zhengjie opened the envelope in her room.

Inside, besides some records, were several photos.

Photos from that room.

Duanmu Zhengjie’s eyes narrowed. She tore the photos into pieces and shredded the other documents.

She wouldn’t let anyone get away with plotting against her.

…

One sunny afternoon, the Nangong Group’s tranquility was disrupted by uniformed officers.

Simultaneously, Nangong family’s malls were inspected.

Fire safety, blocked fire exits, business licenses…

They found every possible reason to “cleanse” the Nangong Group’s assets.

This large-scale and lengthy inspection attracted attention from financial reporters.

Everyone suspected the Nangong family had done something wrong.

Such an inspection could destroy a century-old company.

…

Bian Yingning didn’t know about this.

She stood at a milk tea shop, searching her bag for cash.

Yes, cash.

Her cards were suspended, her accounts frozen. She couldn’t receive transfers and was too embarrassed to borrow money.

She used to buy whatever milk tea she wanted.

Now…

She stood sadly in front of the shop, looking at the tempting milk tea, so alluring, so cute, so fragrant.

If she had a second chance, she wouldn’t be careless with money and would always keep some cash on hand!

She didn’t even have a single dollar.

The heiress of the Bian family living like this.

Who would believe it?

She didn’t believe it herself. She couldn’t believe people could reach this point.

Her parents really stopped her allowance, not giving her any face.

As if they weren’t afraid she’d starve.

In those few seconds, Bian Yingning thought a lot.

She even considered taking cash from her family’s restaurant.

That seemed like a good idea.

Bian Yingning turned to leave for the school gate when she heard a voice.

“Senior?”

Bian Yingning turned. It was Ji Xiaoxue!

Since becoming poor, Bian Yingning had become insecure.

She wore a hat to be less noticeable.

Today, she wore a baseball cap, the brim low, almost covering her face. Unfamiliar people wouldn’t recognize her.

She couldn’t even see the road clearly, but she wouldn’t lift the brim.

This was her last bit of stubbornness!

Bian Yingning saw Ji Xiaoxue’s happiness. She rushed forward, grabbing her hand, “Junior it’s really you!”

Milk tea was her life, and she had lost it, for a whole month (minus 25 days).
