Bian Yingning’s red lips parted slightly; she’d forgotten how to breathe through her nose, only able to gasp heavily, one breath after another.

She knew she must look like a mess.

A warm hand touched her cold cheek, giving her a sense of reality, a feeling that she was still alive.

Her eyes welled up; at that moment, she wanted to cry unrestrainedly.

It wasn’t weakness, it wasn’t an escape, she just wanted to cry.

But she couldn’t.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

A gentle voice expressed concern.

Before Bian Yingning could reply, Shang Qinghui reached for her phone to call for help, but Bian Yingning grabbed her hand with all her might.

They looked at each other in the darkness. Surroundings and expressions were blurry, but all senses were amplified.

Including heartbeats, including touch.

Shang Qinghui stopped.

Bian Yingning’s eyes held so much that Shang Qinghui only had one thought.

Although she didn’t know what had happened to Bian Yingning, in her watery eyes, she seemed to need a hug at that moment.

Without hesitation, Shang Qinghui put away her phone and embraced Bian Yingning.

Completely enveloping her in her world.

Bian Yingning’s entire body and hands were held; Shang Qinghui’s warmth and the scent of roses enveloped her.

They remained like that for a while, feeling the moment.

Finally, Bian Yingning slowly lowered her head, relaxing, resting her chin on Shang Qinghui’s shoulder.

She suddenly wanted to rest, just for a little while.

Sensing her movement, Shang Qinghui hugged her tighter.

“Did someone bully you?” Shang Qinghui’s voice came from beside her ear.

They were like two swans, necks intertwined, each facing the darkness behind the other.

In the silence, Shang Qinghui began to ramble.

“Who could be so powerful as to bully you?” Shang Qinghui dismissed her own guess.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

“Why are you here alone?”

“Were you having an affair?”

“And you failed?”

“Or were you fishing again?”

That last question made Bian Yingning choke.

“Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much?” Bian Yingning, regaining some strength, asked unhappily.

“No.”

“Well, now someone has.”

Shang Qinghui: “…”

Could she let go now? She suddenly wanted to take a shower.

“What exactly happened?” Shang Qinghui asked, unable to bear it any longer.

Bian Yingning had too many secrets, so many that Shang Qinghui sometimes didn’t know what kind of person she was.

Shang Qinghui tried to pull away, but Bian Yingning pressed her back, bringing them closer again.

“Hug me a little longer,” Bian Yingning said.

Shang Qinghui, where Bian Yingning couldn’t see, pursed her lips, suddenly feeling embarrassed.

“What? Suddenly my embrace is good enough? Not afraid of getting addicted?” she said dryly.

“No, I just want to feel how flat your chest is.”

“?”

Shang Qinghui never expected the story of the farmer and the snake to play out on her.

“Bian Yingning,” Shang Qinghui called her.

“Speak.”

“I really want to strangle you.”

“Go ahead.”

Shang Qinghui immediately tightened her arms, hugging Bian Yingning tightly.

“Uh… wait, wait, that’s enough…” She didn’t expect the seemingly small girl to be so strong.

Shang Qinghui released her, looking at her quietly for a while.

Bian Yingning looked back.

“Will there be a day when you’ll tell me everything?” Putting aside the teasing, Shang Qinghui asked seriously.

Bian Yingning also stopped smiling.

She was silent.

Shang Qinghui was silent too.

Would there be?

She didn’t know.

“Do you like me before or after I went to university?”

Bian Yingning asked back.

Shang Qinghui was silent.

Time passed in silence.

“Host, please note, Duanmu Zhengjie’s mission is still ongoing.”

The system’s voice sounded timely.

Bian Yingning stood up, but Shang Qinghui remained kneeling, looking at her.

She reached out her hand.

Their palms met. Shang Qinghui grasped her hand, and Bian Yingning pulled her up.

“I have something to do. I have to go,” Bian Yingning said, wanting to leave.

But Shang Qinghui still held her hand.

Bian Yingning turned back, waiting for Shang Qinghui to speak.

Shang Qinghui didn’t say anything and released her hand.

Bian Yingning wanted to say something but didn’t know where to begin.

“Go back early,” she turned and left.

Shang Qinghui watched her leave.

From the shadows of the trees to the bright campus path, her figure hurried.

What was so urgent?

Was she unwilling to stay with me, unwilling to talk more, or did she really have something to do?

【Do you like me before or after I went to university?】

“I like you.”

Late autumn had arrived; winter wouldn’t be far behind.

…

Bian Yingning found herself fated to bars; she was either in a bar or on her way to one.

She had just arrived at the location provided by the system when she saw several police cars with flashing lights approaching from behind.

Bian Yingning’s heart sank, and she immediately ran into the bar without looking back.

The security guard at the entrance also saw the police cars and, ignoring Bian Yingning, ran to warn others.

Entering the bar, she found everyone oblivious to what was about to happen, still enjoying themselves.

It was crowded. Bian Yingning headed for the stairs to the third floor, struggling through the crowd. A bodyguard trailing her couldn’t keep up.

Before reaching room 305, she heard panicked shouts and people running downstairs or hiding.

She heard a police officer shout, “Police raid! Everyone put your hands up!”

People upstairs were running down, pushing Bian Yingning. She didn’t dare look back, only focusing on finding Duanmu Zhengjie before the police.

“Are you crazy! Why are you running upstairs?”

As Bian Yingning squeezed through, someone coming down was blocked by her and cursed, trying to push her aside.

Bian Yingning grabbed his hand, using the wall for leverage to push him towards the center of the hallway.

The crowd was pressed together, forced to stop.

Bian Yingning quickly rushed forward.

As she rounded the corner, she heard police shouting “Don’t move!” from below.

Stumbling, Bian Yingning’s heart pounded. The bodyguard was lost in the crowd.

She had contacted other bodyguards, but they would take time to arrive.

Bian Yingning didn’t have time to wait.

Nangong Jin’s plan was good. He lured Duanmu Zhengjie to this place and hired some male escorts.

Drugs weren’t necessary; they could easily claim it was a setup.

They only needed to report to the police that someone was involved in prostitution. The police would quickly arrive.

He only needed to ensure Duanmu Zhengjie didn’t leave before the police arrived, finding her with the escorts in the room.

People like Duanmu Zhengjie were very sensitive to such events. If this was exposed, her career would be ruined.

She couldn’t even explain why she was there.

…

Finally reaching room 305, Bian Yingning knocked urgently. Thinking it was the police, the person inside opened the door quickly.

As soon as the door cracked open, Bian Yingning kicked it open, seeing the scene inside.

Two men, a small table near the entrance, two sofas, three glasses, and open bottles of alcohol on the table, and a bed further in.

The room was decorated in suggestive red.

One man, shirtless, stood frozen by the door; he must have opened it.

The other was entangled with Duanmu Zhengjie on the carpet by the bed. Bian Yingning, furious, rushed over, punched the man in the face, then pulled him away.

Duanmu Zhengjie, clutching her clothes, was stunned.

When the man realized it wasn’t who they expected, he slammed the door shut and approached Bian Yingning.

“Who are you?”

He grabbed Bian Yingning’s shirt, trying to pull her away, but she was unexpectedly strong.

She twisted his arm, and he screamed. She pulled him down, performing a perfect over-the-shoulder throw.

The man, stunned, clutched his waist in pain, unable to move. The other man was frozen.

“Who… who are you? What do you want?”

Neither man was strong; they were just male escorts, no match for Bian Yingning.

“What are you doing here…” Duanmu Zhengjie, clutching her clothes, stood up, surprised.

“No time to explain. Hide!” Bian Yingning urged.

She seemed to be constantly in a hurry tonight.

But the room was small, the space under the bed too low, and there was only a window.

…

Bang——

“Police! Hands up!”

The door was kicked open again, and several police officers entered.

Bian Yingning was whipping two unconscious escorts with a small leather whip.

“Uh?” Bian Yingning was startled as a flash went off.

“Police! We received a report of illegal activities! Hands up!”

A police officer, seeing the scene, was stunned but quickly reacted.

…A pink room, three people.

Two shirtless men lay on the bed, like lambs waiting to be slaughtered.

Their eyes were unfocused; their hands were handcuffed to the bed, and mouth gags prevented them from speaking. Saliva dripped from their mouths.

A large mirror reflected the scene.

The perpetrator, wearing a thin white sweatshirt, like a student, had been whipping them enthusiastically. Several welts were visible on their bodies.

The police frowned.

Bian Yingning threw down the whip and put her hands up.

“Take them away. Find them some clothes,” an officer said, glancing at Bian Yingning with disgust, then moving to the next room.

So young and good-looking, yet so depraved.

Disgusting.

…

At the police station, Bian Yingning realized many people had been arrested.

So-called legitimate establishments weren’t so legitimate.

Bian Yingning sat, in a good mood, even thinking idly.

She smiled, watching those arrested being questioned, bailed, etc.

She’d learned something; she’d never experienced this before.

Soon, she stopped smiling.

She saw Duanmu Zhenghao staring at her in shock.

Bian Yingning: “…” His shocked expression was understandable, but could he stop gaping?

“You…” Duanmu Zhenghao approached Bian Yingning, hesitating.

He hadn’t participated in the raid, but he knew what was happening.

“You actually…”

Duanmu Zhenghao couldn’t understand.

He thought she was an innocent girl. Seeing her with Hua Jiangrong at the Suowei Hotel, he had a suspicion, but he never imagined…

Had he been wrong?

“It’s a misunderstanding,” Bian Yingning touched her forehead, partially covering her face.

It was embarrassing.

Duanmu Zhenghao didn’t speak, averting his gaze.

Bian Yingning: “…”

Others could look at her with judgmental eyes, but not him!

He didn’t know what she’d done for his sister.

Sigh.

Bian Yingning sighed heavily, realizing how difficult it was to do good deeds anonymously.

Respect to good people.

Before Bian Yingning was questioned, her lawyer arrived. The professionals would handle it.

She had done nothing illegal.

Her reputation, however, was tarnished.

Leaving the station at midnight, Bian Yingning shivered in the cold.

A low-key black car was parked by the road. Seeing Bian Yingning, it flashed its headlights.

Bian Yingning waved to her bodyguards, signaling them to follow.

She opened the car door and got in.

The car was warm, calming her shivering.

The car was dark, but she could see inside.

Duanmu Zhengjie sat on the other side. The windows were tinted; no one could see inside.

Duanmu Zhengjie looked at the brightly lit police station. The driver started the car.

They drove in silence, each looking out their window.

Arriving at the Bian residence, Bian Yingning reached for the door handle.

“Bian Yingning,” Duanmu Zhengjie finally spoke.

Bian Yingning withdrew her hand: “Hmm.”

“Why.”

A vague question.

“I don’t know,” Bian Yingning said softly.

“Then what do you know?” Duanmu Zhengjie’s usually calm voice was agitated.

It was normal; anyone would be agitated after such a night.

“Who do you think is behind this?” Bian Yingning asked back.

She’d realized that when faced with difficult questions, counter-questions were best.

“…I’m not sure yet.”

The Duanmu family had many enemies. Many wanted their downfall.

“Do you remember when I first appeared in your life?”

The question echoed in Duanmu Zhengjie’s mind.

The car door opened and closed; the car started again.

Her clothes were still dirty and frayed. Her usually neat hair was slightly disheveled.

When did she first appear in her life?

At her brother’s engagement party.

That was the first time she saw Bian Yingning.

She remembered Bian Yingning charging at Nangong Jin, kicking him, then spinning with Hua Jiangrong like in a movie.

Her skirt flew, her face full of youthful recklessness.

Later, when she wanted to talk to Nangong Jin, Bian Yingning took her to the restroom and said she hoped she’d stay single forever.

Later, she approached her through her brother.

Calling her “sister,” acting sweet and obedient.

Like a little sun, warming her.

When Nangong Jin invited her to dinner, Bian Yingning secretly manipulated things.

One thing after another changed her impression of her savior, until she disliked her.

…Did she mean Nangong Jin was behind this?

Understanding everything, Duanmu Zhengjie felt heavy.

She had never felt this way before.

Her nose felt slightly sour; her hope was fading.

Remembering Bian Yingning’s conflicts with Nangong Jin, Duanmu Zhengjie understood.

So, she appeared in her life with a plan.

This was simply to stop Nangong Jin’s plan, and it had nothing to do with her personally.

Even if it wasn’t her, Bian Yingning would do the same to others.
