The four major families coexist because their areas of expertise are different.

Years of accumulation and sedimentation have allowed each family to build a strong reputation in their respective fields. It’s difficult for any one family to encroach on another’s territory.

Of course, there are always exceptions.

News of the southern land development project has been officially released, and everyone is eager to participate. However, most believe the project will ultimately go to the Shang family.

  1. The Shang family has strong financial resources and can offer a higher price.
  2. The Shang family is involved in real estate and possesses the best engineering teams and architects.

However, Bian Yingning knows that Nangong Jin is also very interested in this project.

In the original story, he secretly establishes a media company to infiltrate the area exclusively controlled by the Hua family, while simultaneously targeting Hua Jiangrong, exposing her scandals to implicate the Hua family and revealing their long-hidden secrets.

While the Hua family struggles with public relations, Nangong Jin steadily expands his company, quietly suppressing the already weakened Hua family—a classic case of striking while the iron is hot.

Bian Yingning doesn’t know the finer details, but as the male protagonist, Nangong Jin is undoubtedly “masterminding” everything, his seemingly submissive actions merely a strategic accumulation of power.

In the original story, after taking down the Hua family, Nangong Jin targets the Bian family.

The Bian family owns numerous restaurants, making this an easy target for him.

He simply needs to hire a few people to cause trouble in the restaurants—complaints about food poisoning, for example—something the restaurants are ill-prepared to handle.

In the age of big data, destroying a restaurant company is incredibly easy: creating disturbances, posting negative reviews, repeatedly reporting them to trigger inspections and shutdowns…

While the Bian family undoubtedly had its own protection over the years, Nangong Jin holds the power of his media company. He can spread information online, manipulate public opinion, and righteous netizens will immediately take sides.

As for the Shang family…

Bian Yingning sits in her study, staring at the open documents on her desk.

Nangong Jin has memories from his past life, and even without Shang Qinghui’s help, he can still know the Shang family’s bid.

Bian Yingning could remind Shang Qinghui to increase their bid, but…

She can’t deny her own interest.

Who wouldn’t want more money?

…

As Bian Yingning departs for S City, Hua Cancan finally sends her a message.

“I’m back.”

Bian Yingning, already on the plane: “…I’m about to take off.”

Hua Cancan: “?”

“Goodbye, sister, I’m embarking on a journey tonight.”

After sending this message, Bian Yingning turns off her phone at the flight attendant’s request.

…

Upon arrival, the hotel manager has been waiting for some time.

As soon as Bian Yingning arrives, he eagerly expresses his anticipation. She doesn’t waste time and immediately asks him to explain the hotel’s operations.

Even after arriving at the hotel, she doesn’t rest, instead inspecting the premises.

The hotel’s basic facilities are complete, but the style…

Bian Yingning frowns at the grand and imposing decor. There are even ferocious dragon carvings on the protruding columns in the corners: “…Didn’t headquarters send someone to discuss the details of the decor with you?”

S City has a mild climate, ideal for tourism and living, with many hot springs. The hotel is located in a resort area.

However, the surroundings are filled with small gardens and hot springs, yet the hotel resembles a palace, completely mismatched with the idyllic atmosphere tourists expect.

The manager and Bian Yingning’s assistant diligently record Bian Yingning’s questions. The guide dares not speak, only whispering reminders when turning corners or changing locations.

“Ahead is the recreation area. The hotel not only has hot springs directly connected to the rooms, but also various outdoor hot spring pools…”

Bian Yingning follows the guide’s pace.

There’s a gym, a sauna, and hot spring pools.

Although few guests are present, there are still a few scattered individuals.

A group of six or seven people, entering in a grand manner, attracts the attention of other tourists.

Duanmu Zhengjie emerges from the changing room, having changed into her swimsuit and is tying the belt of her bathrobe as she walks towards the outdoor hot spring pool, when she catches sight of someone.

She looks up and sees Bian Yingning, who is wearing a grass-green suit and white sneakers, standing out among the group of hotel staff in black suits.

With her hands behind her back, she frowns, looking like a dissatisfied leader on an inspection. When Duanmu Zhengjie looks over, Bian Yingning happens to be pointing at the tiger-head water spout of a nearby pool.

She has the air of someone pointing out the flaws of the world.

This is a rare sight.

Duanmu Zhengjie slows her pace.

A long corridor occupies a large passageway stretching straight ahead. To the right is an entrance leading to separate men’s and women’s changing rooms and restrooms.

To the left are several hot spring pools. The walls around the pools are openwork, allowing soft sunlight to filter through the patterns, and steam can be seen rising.

Duanmu Zhengjie stands at the exit of the changing room, and Bian Yingning will inevitably pass her if she continues straight ahead.

After pointing out the problem with the side water spout, Bian Yingning naturally turns her head.

The next second, their eyes meet.

Duanmu Zhengjie is wearing a pair of large blue men’s slippers, her white and tender toes barely visible.

She’s wearing a white bathrobe, revealing her white legs that seem to glow, and her usually neatly styled short hair is now loose and fluffy, with a few strands playfully sticking up near her cheeks.

Compared to her usual professional and elite appearance, she now seems more casual and gentle.

Like a big cat retracting its claws, appearing gentle and harmless.

But Bian Yingning doesn’t relax at all. Her eyes widen, and upon recognizing Duanmu Zhengjie… she doesn’t hesitate—she turns around and pushes past the people behind her and runs.

Her flustered back… anyone who doesn’t know better would think she’s seen a creditor.

“Boss?” the manager calls out questioningly to Bian Yingning, who has already disappeared.

“What’s wrong?” others ask curiously, while looking at Duanmu Zhengjie.

Under their gaze, Duanmu Zhengjie remains calm and composed, adjusting her hair, a faint smile on her face. She turns and continues towards the outdoor hot spring pool.

The two walk in opposite directions.

Pathetic.

Duanmu Zhengjie scoffs inwardly.

She thought she would be the one fleeing in embarrassment, but… the victim is acting like a mouse seeing a cat.

Bian Yingning stops at the corner, cautiously peeking back. Thankfully, no one is chasing her.

Damn, that was embarrassing.

She fidgets with her toes.

She probably didn’t see me… I ran so fast, she only glanced… and we’re not in H City…

No, what’s wrong with S City? Why are they all here?

Shang Qinghui’s presence is understandable; she has business here.

What is Duanmu Zhengjie doing here, on vacation?

Seeing her, Bian Yingning can’t help but recall that night in Suowei…

Thinking about that night, Bian Yingning covers her burning face and takes deep breaths.

She had almost forgotten, but now she’s suddenly appeared again.

Bian Yingning clenches her fists. What to do? Maybe she should just leave; she can’t stay here, Duanmu Zhengjie is here.

If she suddenly decides to… do something to her again, what then?

A sister is always a sister; she’s had more life experience, and I can’t win.

“Boss…” Just as Bian Yingning is deeply troubled, she hears the manager’s fawning call.

“You motherfa…!” Bian Yingning turns to see the manager’s enlarged face. She’s startled and almost jumps up, ready to punch him.

The manager is a man in his forties. Although he’s well-maintained, his age is still evident.

Her strong reaction also startles the manager, who hurriedly asks, “What’s wrong? What’s wrong, boss? What happened? Why are you so nervous?”

Nervous?

Bian Yingning takes a breath… Yes, why am I so nervous?

Even… even if Duanmu Zhengjie wants to do something to her again, can’t she fight back? Besides, she has the system. If it really comes to it, the one who’s defeated might not be her.

“Not nervous, not nervous!” Bian Yingning says through gritted teeth, seemingly responding to the manager, but actually talking to herself.

“Okay, okay, not nervous… So, about the hotel’s situation… do you want to continue the inspection?”

Bian Yingning doesn’t speak.

The manager secretly glances at her twice, his voice filled with sadness: “The hotel’s business is getting worse and worse. We’re losing money almost every month. Few tourists, no repeat customers, opening the doors each day is like throwing money away. Water, electricity, maintenance, employee salaries… it’s all piling up…”

“Alright, alright, let’s continue,” Bian Yingning straightens her collar, interrupting the manager’s lament.

She just wasn’t prepared earlier, but now she’s mentally ready. She’s not afraid.

It’s just a sister with inappropriate feelings for her, no big deal.

“Yes, boss, this way, please.”

The adaptable manager gestures invitingly.

Bian Yingning slowly walks out from the corner.

This path allows a clear view to the end.

She sees that Duanmu Zhengjie is no longer where she was, only a few hotel staff members who were with them are still standing there.

Reaching that spot, Bian Yingning looks at the end of the corridor.

“Where does that lead to?” Bian Yingning asks the guide.

The guide unfolds the hotel layout: “We’re here now. This corridor leads to the outdoor hot spring pool. The entire area is this big…”

“Forget it, let’s not go there,” Bian Yingning looks at the layout: “Let’s…” Her finger traces the layout: “Let’s go here.”

She points to a place in the opposite direction of the hot spring pool, an outdoor restaurant.

Seeing her take the longer route, everyone remains silent, obediently following her change of direction.

Bian Yingning, walking ahead with her head held high, thinks, this hotel is so big, I don’t believe we’ll meet again!

I felt quite sorry for her, but after that night, I understand. Some people may appear bright and proper on the surface, but secretly, they might have been wanting to eat you up all along!
