Let me know what you think! Rate and comment if you liked it, otherwise, no worries."

That’s what she thought, but when it came time to actually do it, Jiang Jiaotao hesitated.

She had been so kind, was there really no trickery involved?

Even if not, if it was purely because she was a fool, and she took what was offered, was that taking advantage of the situation…?

They walked around and around. Bian Yingning had already chosen a beige square bag, but Jiang Jiaotao hadn’t chosen one yet.

After having her chosen bag packaged, Bian Yingning walked to Jiang Jiaotao, who seemed distracted, “What’s wrong? Didn’t you find anything you like?”

“Mm…” Jiang Jiaotao didn’t know how to answer.

“Shall we go to another store?”

Jiang Jiaotao didn’t answer. She looked behind Bian Yingning, where a sales associate was packaging Bian Yingning’s bag, “Did you find something you like?”

“No,” Bian Yingning looked back, “This is for… apologizing to a sister.”

She had promised to apologize to Duanmu Zhengjie, and didn’t know how, so she decided to buy a bag and put some things inside as a gift.

Jiang Jiaotao’s eyes flickered.

Sister?

“Do you know so many sisters?” Jiang Jiaotao suddenly said.

Bian Yingning frowned, “No, they’re all… people I need to know for work.”

Mission = Work

This equation was correct, right?

Jiang Jiaotao nodded and picked up a chain bag she had liked, “What do you think of this one?”

“Beautiful, very unique,” Bian Yingning praised sincerely.

Seeing Jiang Jiaotao’s satisfied expression, Bian Yingning had the bag packaged as well.

As she went to pay, Jiang Jiaotao looked back at the price of her chosen bag—over 200,000 yuan.

Enough for a down payment on an apartment in a small town.

“The total is 650,000 yuan after the discount…”

Hearing the sales associate and Bian Yingning’s conversation, Jiang Jiaotao looked at the two shopping bags on the counter.

The bag for that sister cost over 400,000 yuan?

It seemed… she was a very important sister.

“Here,” after paying, Bian Yingning handed Jiang Jiaotao her bag, “It was nice meeting you, Miss Jiang.”

Her smile was captivating, and her generosity was overwhelming.

Jiang Jiaotao took the bag, feeling a little uneasy for the first time, “Thank you…”

Even outside the store, Jiang Jiaotao felt unreal. She had… really received such an expensive bag?

They continued shopping. Bian Yingning remained enthusiastic, but Jiang Jiaotao was preoccupied.

“What are you thinking about? Was I too sudden? Did I put too much pressure on you?”

After walking a floor, Bian Yingning stopped to ask.

Jiang Jiaotao looked up. She wore black chunky heels, making eye contact with Bian Yingning, “I… I just think you should save more money instead of spending it like this.”

“Hey, don’t worry, if this money were mine, I’d be happy, but the problem is, I can spend it, but I can’t use it as an asset.”

After all, the Bian family hadn’t let her take over yet.

Jiang Jiaotao seemed to understand.

She didn’t consider herself a kind and honest person, but this was the first time someone had treated her like this, and she found it hard to accept.

“Mm.”

They had dinner, and even though Jiang Jiaotao had forgotten, Bian Yingning remembered to buy the red bean cakes Jiang Jiaotao had praised and take them home for her.

Getting into a taxi, Jiang Jiaotao waved goodbye to Bian Yingning.

The car started, leaving Bian Yingning behind. The car was filled with the faint scent of red bean cakes.

Jiang Jiaotao smelled the cakes, touched the bag, and her brows relaxed.

…

After seeing Jiang Jiaotao off, Bian Yingning breathed a sigh of relief. She must have gained a lot of favor today.

Just then, Bian Yingning turned and saw a person dressed in black standing not far behind her, wearing a black baseball cap. If it were night, she could blend into the darkness.

“…” A spy?

Without speaking, the person lifted their hat brim, revealing their face.

Round and chubby, cute, with a touch of childishness, but sharp eyes.

“Shang Qinghui? What are you doing here?”

Shang Qinghui, arms crossed, stared coldly at Bian Yingning, “Passing by.”

Passing by? Bian Yingning looked around. She was on the roadside outside the mall, a taxi stand and bus stop. If she were passing by, she shouldn’t be here.

“Why… are you dressed in black?”

Shang Qinghui rubbed the back of her head, covered by the hat, “Don’t you think it’s cool?”

Bian Yingning: “…” Was there a generation gap between them?

“Who was that woman?” Shang Qinghui suddenly asked.

Bian Yingning was startled, “Did you see her?”

“What, can’t I see?” Shang Qinghui asked back.

It wasn’t that, it was just strange.

Bian Yingning looked Shang Qinghui up and down, “Passing by? Aren’t you following me?”

Shang Qinghui instantly became like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, “What nonsense, who would have the time to follow you!”

She just… wanted to see who this “Sister Peach” was. Seeing Bian Yingning being so secretive, not even answering calls in front of her, there must be something fishy.

It’s not like she was a big shot or doing anything shady, “If you weren’t, then you weren’t, why are you so agitated?”

“Who’s agitated? Don’t change the subject. That woman… I’ve never seen her before, who is she?”

Shang Qinghui was determined to get an answer.

Bian Yingning hesitated, “You don’t know her…”

“If you tell me, I’ll know.”

Bian Yingning raised an eyebrow, “Why do you want to know so much? What, are you worried about me?”

“I…” Shang Qinghui fell silent, then regained her composure, “Say it or don’t, I’m not interested.”

She turned and left, her steps heavy, as if she had a grudge against the ground.

“So strange,” Bian Yingning said, puzzled, watching her go.

…

Many new projects were starting in H City, signifying a “renewal.” The government’s actions were significant, including developing new areas and revitalizing the tourism industry.

H City was by the sea, with beautiful scenery, abundant resources, and tourism was a good way to boost economic development.

So, the government planned to choose an image spokesperson for H City.

This kind of media work naturally fell to the Hua family.

The Hua family, after confirming with Hua Jiangrong, nominated Hua Jiangrong, who usually didn’t want to reveal her identity.

Soon, the news that the top actress Hua Jiangrong was from the leading media family, the Hua family, went viral.

The Hua family’s stock price soared.

Hua Jiangrong instantly transformed from an entertainment celebrity into a new generation of women associated with the country.

H City’s popularity increased with Hua Jiangrong’s influence, attracting many people to experience the city that nurtured the elegant goddess.

Of course, this happened later. After confirming the spokesperson, Duanmu Zhengjie and Hua Jiangrong met at a dinner.

Among the crowd in suits, Duanmu Zhengjie and Hua Jiangrong were eye-catching.

“Miss Duanmu.” Hua Jiangrong greeted Duanmu Zhengjie first.

Duanmu Zhengjie smiled politely, raising her glass, “Congratulations, Actress Hua.”

“Thank you, Miss Duanmu. I’m grateful for this opportunity,” Hua Jiangrong responded flawlessly.

Duanmu Zhengjie leaned closer, whispering, “Actress Hua has achieved success in both love and career, it’s enviable.”

Hua Jiangrong subtly frowned, “Miss Duanmu, did you hear some rumors?”

Both were shrewd. Hua Jiangrong knew Duanmu Zhengjie’s words were not friendly.

Was it a rumor about her and the person she liked?

But she knew she was in a sensitive period and had been careful, so there couldn’t be any rumors.

“How could I hear it wrong?” Duanmu Zhengjie pressed down on the vertical lines on Hua Jiangrong’s collar, appearing friendly to outsiders.

“When I have time, I should experience the beds at Suowei Hotel, how soft they are.”

Duanmu Zhengjie stepped back, raised her glass, and smiled at Hua Jiangrong, a smile with hidden meaning.

Hua Jiangrong’s face turned pale.

What did Duanmu Zhengjie mean? She didn’t have any conflict with her. Was she hinting at Director Lei’s incident, letting her know she had leverage?

What did she want? To control her?

Or… something else.

…

Bian Yingning bought the apology gift for Duanmu Zhengjie, but she didn’t dare to send it, or even message her.

It was just that someone who was usually thick-skinned suddenly became shy.

Sigh, she was indeed a shy girl.

Books say people are most easily moved by what they can’t easily get.

So, Bian Yingning learned from Auntie Zhuo for two days and finally made beautiful and delicious cookies.

Putting the cookies in a box and placing it in her bag, Bian Yingning hesitated.

How should she send it? Mail it? Not sincere enough.

Deliver it in person? Too awkward.

As Bian Yingning was agonizing, she received a message.

From the person she was thinking about.

Duanmu Zhengjie: “Are you free?”

Bian Yingning’s eyes lit up, quickly replying, “Yes, yes, what’s up, Sister Duanmu?”

They hadn’t contacted each other for a while.

“I want to return something to you, let’s meet.”

It was like a pillow sent from heaven. Bian Yingning could only say, “Okay, okay, okay.”

“Tonight at 9, Suowei Hotel, room 1601.”

Bian Yingning: “?”

Wait… this was familiar.

Wasn’t this… the room where Hua Jiangrong was set up?

The same room… did the hotel only have this room?

Or… did the people in this book have a special fondness for this room number?

But, “return something”?

Did she borrow anything from Duanmu Zhengjie? No.

Bian Yingning couldn’t figure it out and gave up, thinking she’d know when she saw her.

After showering and putting on makeup, Bian Yingning took her gift and went to Suowei Hotel.

She had damaged two doors last time and paid a lot of money. She felt upset thinking about it.

No, she had to instruct someone to take over this hotel. The Bian family would monopolize the hospitality industry in H City.

At the entrance, she saw the familiar manager.

The manager was shocked to see Bian Yingning.

They were both experienced and quickly recovered, “Miss Bian, what brings you here?”

Bian Yingning, holding her gift box, walked slowly, “I have a date.”

“Ah, looking for a friend again?”

Bian Yingning stopped, looking at him sideways, “You should understand, some things should stay secret.”

No one could reveal what happened to Hua Jiangrong.

The manager’s heart trembled, quickly apologizing, “I understand, I’m sorry, Miss Bian.”

Bian Yingning ignored him and went straight to the elevator.

After she left, the manager breathed a sigh of relief, instructing someone to monitor Bian Yingning’s movements.

Arriving at room 1601, Bian Yingning knocked. The door opened quickly.

As soon as Bian Yingning entered, the door was closed.

The room was the same, only a bedside lamp was on. Bian Yingning turned on the lights, revealing the surroundings.

A suit jacket was on the bed. Bian Yingning turned to see Duanmu Zhengjie, wearing a white shirt with her sleeves rolled up, leaning against the door, looking at her.

“Sis… Sister Duanmu.” Bian Yingning felt Duanmu Zhengjie was strange, but couldn’t say why. Looking into her deep eyes, Bian Yingning felt frightened.

“What are you holding?”

Duanmu Zhengjie looked at the thing in Bian Yingning’s arms.

“Oh,” Bian Yingning quickly handed the gift box to Duanmu Zhengjie, “This is a gift. I’m sorry for soiling your clothes last time.”

Duanmu Zhengjie stared at the box for a few seconds before taking it, “What is it?”

She walked to the TV cabinet, placing the box on top, staring at it without opening it.

“Mm… a small gift, remember to check everywhere.”

Bian Yingning was still at the entrance, not daring to come in.

The door was closed, only the two of them were in the room. Because of the previous incident, she couldn’t relax.

Duanmu Zhengjie didn’t speak. Her shirt was tucked into her bodycon skirt, leaning against the TV cabinet, wearing high heels, her curves evident.

Her rolled-up sleeves made her look less serious and more casual.

The longer Bian Yingning stayed, the more difficult it was to breathe, “Sister Duanmu, why did you book this room? The facilities are incomplete. If you met at my hotel, I would have arranged a suite for you.”

She was still suspicious about Duanmu Zhengjie asking her to meet at the hotel.

“It seems you’re very familiar with this room,” Duanmu Zhengjie said calmly, her fingertips tracing the gift box.

Bian Yingning hadn’t seen Duanmu Zhenghao that day, so when Duanmu Zhengjie asked, she felt a chill.

Had someone found out about Hua Jiangrong?

“Familiar or not, it’s obvious,” Bian Yingning chuckled.

“By the way, Sister, why did you ask me to come? What did you want to return to me?”

Duanmu Zhengjie stopped touching the box, lifting her eyelids, gesturing towards the bed, “Take it from my jacket pocket.”

Bian Yingning looked at the suit jacket, worlds apart from her.

She was on one side of the room, the jacket on the other.

“This… this isn’t appropriate,” how could she touch someone else’s jacket pocket?

“Since I asked you, and I’m here watching you, what’s inappropriate?” Duanmu Zhengjie stood still, the light shining on her, half her face hidden in shadow, making her expression unclear.

Bian Yingning felt like a lamb entering a tiger’s mouth.

It wasn’t inappropriate, she was just scared and didn’t dare to enter the room.

Silence hung between them. Thinking of the unfinished mission with Duanmu Zhengjie, Bian Yingning finally moved.

She walked in step by step, picked up the jacket, looked at Duanmu Zhengjie again, and slowly reached into the pocket.

She didn’t remember lending anything to Duanmu Zhengjie, but there wouldn’t be nails or snakes in the pocket to scare her, would there?

The first pocket was empty.

Bian Yingning checked each pocket, “I don’t remember lending you anything, Sister.”

As she spoke, Bian Yingning touched something fabric-like.

She pulled it out, puzzled.

Because she only held a corner, a small black lace G-string emerged from the serious suit pocket.

It was fully visible under the bright light.

Seeing what she had pulled out, Bian Yingning dropped it, startled. The underwear fell lightly, half on the jacket, half on the white bedsheet, black and white contrasting.

Bian Yingning quickly retreated.

Damn it, she remembered. Duanmu Zhengjie had said she didn’t have underwear, and she had gotten some from the hotel reception.

Because she was wearing a dress, she naturally wore this kind of G-string.

It was nothing then, but now, it felt wrong.

“This… this doesn’t need to be returned,” Bian Yingning stammered.

If she had to return something, shouldn’t it be the dress?

“Click click—”

The sound of high heels echoed.

Bian Yingning stood by the bed, Duanmu Zhengjie walked beside her, blocking her escape.

Her exquisite cold beauty was breathtaking.

“Why doesn’t it need to be returned? Borrowing and returning, isn’t that how it works?” Hot breath sprayed on Bian Yingning’s ear, making her lean against the headboard.

“This…” Seeing Duanmu Zhengjie approaching, Bian Yingning’s heart raced.

“Sister… is there a misunderstanding between us?”

Something was wrong.

Duanmu Zhengjie smirked, unbuttoning her shirt, her eyes fixed on Bian Yingning, “What misunderstanding? Aren’t you familiar with this place?”

“No…” Bian Yingning finally realized Duanmu Zhengjie knew something.

“You misunderstood, I was saving someone…” Bian Yingning spoke quickly, trying to explain.

If this continued, she felt she would lose her innocence for the third time in this world.

“Saving someone?” Duanmu Zhengjie was unbuttoning her third button.

“Mm… like a firefighter putting out a fire?” Duanmu Zhengjie’s voice was slightly hoarse, her voice, already clear and beautiful, now laced with emotion, was intoxicating.

“No, I think there’s a misunderstanding!” Bian Yingning’s eyes welled up, “I’m not that kind of person, don’t do this, let’s talk…”

“Aren’t you trying to be friends with me?” The fourth button fell.

The white bra barely contained the alluring curves.

“This isn’t that kind of friendship, Sister, don’t do this, I’m scared…” Bian Yingning was pressed against the wall, her legs against the bedside table, she had nowhere to go.

Why did things turn out like this? She just wanted to complete her missions and earn points. Had she given the wrong impression somewhere?

If so, she would change, can you please let her go now?

“What, Hua Jiangrong could, but I can’t?” The voice was cold.

She pulled the hem of her shirt out from her skirt.

Trying to hide it only made it worse.

“No, I’m just a simple girl, I’ve never done anything like this with anyone…” Bian Yingning looked down, her hands braced against the wall behind her, a perfect portrayal of innocence.

“I might be better than her.”

The click of high heels sounded again. When a shadow fell over Bian Yingning, her body trembled.

They were all crazy.

A slender, fair finger hooked her chin. Bian Yingning looked up, meeting Duanmu Zhengjie’s dark eyes, her heart stopping.

At the moment Duanmu Zhengjie leaned down, Bian Yingning found unexpected strength and pushed Duanmu Zhengjie onto the bed.

Duanmu Zhengjie, thrown onto the bed, was startled. Her body swayed with the bed’s elasticity; she thought Bian Yingning was taking the lead.

The next second, a gust of wind swept past.

A figure rushed to the door before she could react, frantically fumbling with the door latch.

Then, the door opened and slammed shut, the room fell silent, leaving Duanmu Zhengjie lying on the bed, her clothes askew.

“Help! Help! Help! Aaaaaah—”

Even after running out, Bian Yingning was still terrified, looking back, afraid Duanmu Zhengjie would chase her.

She pressed the elevator button, but the elevator was still on the third floor. She didn’t dare wait, rushing to the fire escape and running down the stairs.

It was too dangerous. This place was truly dangerous.

She was clearly on a mission, why had things turned out this way?

The sound of Bian Yingning’s frantic footsteps filled the quiet fire escape. Only after she ran out of the hotel did her legs give way, collapsing by the roadside.

What was going on? A perfectly good translator, how… crazy.

Better than Hua Jiangrong? Was this female competitiveness?

Could it be that she had a grudge against Hua Jiangrong, a conflict between them, so she was targeting me?
