Let me know what you think! Rate and comment if you liked it, otherwise, no worries."

However, before Shang Qingfeng could move, Shang Qinghui stopped him. “Brother, you haven’t had a chance to ride yet. Go choose a horse. Ningning and I… are good friends. I’ll take her for a ride.”

The “life-hanging-by-a-thread” Bian Yingning “?” Good friends?

Bullshit! She knows we’re good friends now? As if!

She knew exactly what Shang Qinghui was up to.

It was because she’d pinched and rubbed her face earlier. Shang Qinghui was here for revenge.

Vengeance is a cycle. Let’s just say two debts are settled. We’ve known each other for years; it shouldn’t come to this.

“Go, go, take me away!”

Seeing Shang Qinghui send Shang Qingfeng away and approach her, Bian Yingning urged the groom holding the reins.

The groom was momentarily stunned, seeing Shang Qinghui approaching while Bian Yingning wanted to leave.

Then, remembering that these socialites often had hidden agendas, he decided to follow Bian Yingning’s instructions and lead the horse away.

Being alone was better than being afraid and having an enemy watching.

However, Bian Yingning’s escape was no match for Shang Qinghui’s pursuit.

Shang Qinghui quickly approached and asked the groom for the reins.

The groom looked at Bian Yingning hesitantly.

“No, don’t give them to her. It’s better to give them to me!” Bian Yingning glared at Shang Qinghui like she was a wild animal.

Shang Qinghui had never seen Bian Yingning so nervous. Initially, she just didn’t want Bian Yingning to interact with her brother, but seeing her so scared, she found it amusing.

“What are you nervous about? It’s not everyone who gets the honor of having me hold their horse.” Shang Qinghui smirked, making Bian Yingning’s heart pound.

This is a threat! A blatant threat!

“Knowing this honor is too great, I know I’m not worthy. Why don’t you find a horse, and we can ride together?” Bian Yingning forced a smile.

“Where did you hear that? Sister Ning has helped me so many times. It’s nothing to help you with your horse.”

Those who can ride usually hold the reins themselves. Giving the reins to someone else is like giving them control.

Shang Qinghui snatched the reins from the groom. Knowing their status, the groom didn’t dare argue.

Seeing this, Bian Yingning panicked, gripping the saddle tightly, fearing Shang Qinghui would kick the horse and leave her to fend for herself.

“Listen, you can’t be so ungrateful. I recently gave you an expensive dance outfit, and I returned your bracelet. You haven’t forgotten, have you?” Bian Yingning tried a sentimental approach.

“Heh, I remember.”

Though Shang Qinghui was walking, shorter than Bian Yingning, it was Bian Yingning who seemed intimidated.

“But you’re pretending. You really like my brother and want to be my sister-in-law?” The sneer on Shang Qinghui’s face vanished. “I don’t blame you. My brother is excellent. It’s understandable that you’d want him.”

“However, wanting and acting are different. You can want, but you don’t deserve to have him.”

“Stop pretending. Besides my brother, everyone knows you’re a skilled rider!”

Shang Qinghui became angrier, unsure why. Perhaps she feared Bian Yingning would get together with her brother and surpass her.

Bian Yingning was stunned. Shang Qinghui was afraid she’d steal her brother? “Don’t be ridiculous. What’s so good about your brother? Haven’t you heard? Smart people don’t fall in love.

Smart people avoid relationships. I’m not like you, a lovesick fool who neglects her family business for a man, helping outsiders.”

Shang Qinghui frowned. “What nonsense are you talking about? I…”

When was I lovesick? She liked clinging to Nangong Jin, but she was always responsible.

She’d never neglect her family business for a man.

But Bian Yingning was being cryptic, saying Nangong Jin would ask her for the bid. Was she treating her like a fool? A sensible person wouldn’t do that. And Nangong Jin hasn’t contacted her yet?

She was just stirring up trouble and making sarcastic remarks.

Enraged, Shang Qinghui stood on her tiptoes, stuffing the reins into Bian Yingning’s hands. “You like pretending, so pretend all you want. See if you can make my brother fall for you.”

She slapped the horse’s rump. The horse, thinking it was supposed to run, took off.

Bian Yingning had no experience. Seeing Hua Cancan ride was like seeing a pig run—she’d never ridden a horse.

One moment she was on the horse, the next she was riding alone. Even a genius couldn’t do that.

“Are you being childish? Why are you doing this to me?!”

Bian Yingning yelled at Shang Qinghui.

She felt helpless. She didn’t dare yell for help because everyone knew she was a skilled rider.

It was like a new driver suddenly trapped in a speeding car.

The reins were the steering wheel. What should she do?

Shang Qinghui hadn’t hit the horse hard. It wasn’t running wildly, just steadily forward.

Not fast, not stopping, but Bian Yingning couldn’t get down. Helplessness threatened to overwhelm her.

She held the reins, remembering what she’d seen on TV, and yelled, “Whoa!”

“…”

The horse ignored her and continued.

Why wasn’t this like on TV?

Would the horse stop itself? Why weren’t the grooms coming to help? She’d report them!

Bian Yingning didn’t know that the grooms watched her hold the reins and not call for help, assuming she was riding on her own.

Maybe she should jump. It was grassy; she wouldn’t die, just lose face.

While Bian Yingning was thinking of how to call for help, Hua Cancan, having quenched her thirst, went to get Bian Yingning another drink. Not seeing her, she wondered where she’d gone.

Then she saw Shang Qinghui watching a certain direction. She followed her gaze.

The familiar figure was riding her horse erratically.

A dull thud—Hua Cancan’s drink fell to the ground.

Hua Cancan ran over, grabbing Shang Qinghui’s collar. “Shang Qinghui, you’ve gone too far!”

Then she let go and ran towards Bian Yingning.

If Bian Yingning couldn’t ride, she was in danger.

Horses are sensitive. If they sense you can’t control them, they’ll try to unseat you.

If Bian Yingning panicked and didn’t know how to handle the reins, the consequences could be dire.

“Don’t pull the reins!” Hua Cancan yelled from afar.

Bian Yingning looked back and saw Hua Cancan running towards her. To avoid startling the horse, she slowed down.

In just a few steps, Bian Yingning, seeing how cautiously she walked, felt panicked herself, and didn’t dare to breathe while sitting on the horse.

Fortunately, this was Hua Cancan’s usual horse, and it was familiar with her. The horse, which had been getting restless, approached affectionately upon seeing Hua Cancan.

Hua Cancan seized the opportunity to take the reins from Bian Yingning, stopped the horse, and showed her how to dismount.

“Put your foot in the stirrup, shift your weight, bring your other leg over, then lower yourself to the ground. I’ll catch you. It’s okay if you can’t reach the ground.”

Bian Yingning, lips pursed, followed instructions. When dismounting, her other foot didn’t reach the ground, but Hua Cancan caught her, and Bian Yingning fell into Hua Cancan’s arms. They both took a couple of steps back and sat down.

Bian Yingning, who had been agonizing, was finally saved. Looking at the tall horse, she felt her legs go weak.

Hua Cancan, expecting Bian Yingning to yell at her for leaving her alone on the horse, braced herself for a neck-choke. However, Bian Yingning didn’t react.

She helped Bian Yingning up. “What’s wrong? Are you alright? Scared silly?”

Bian Yingning felt embarrassed, but more so, annoyed at her own helplessness.

“I’m fine, thank you.” Bian Yingning, pale-faced, forced a smile at Hua Cancan and turned to leave.

Hua Cancan was stunned, watching her go.

Thank you?

She and Bian Yingning had known each other for over a decade. They’d rarely said this to each other.

People might remember Shang Qinghui as the spoiled and willful heiress of H City, but they didn’t know Bian Yingning was also a prominent heiress.

Her pride and arrogance were no less than Shang Qinghui’s.

People only remembered Shang Qinghui, whose appearance and personality clashed, but they didn’t have such a strong impression of Bian Yingning.

Yet, this heiress had just thanked her.

They were friends, friends who could share a pair of pants, and she’d thanked her.

Was she… angry about being left alone?

Hua Cancan felt a pang of anxiety.

She stood there, lost, her riding cap having fallen earlier. A light breeze stirred the hair that had been stuck to her forehead under the cap, and her heart sank.

Under the awning, Shang Qinghui saw Bian Yingning walking towards her. Not far behind was Hua Cancan, watching them. Remembering Hua Cancan’s hurried approach, a thought occurred to her.

Could it be that Bian Yingning really couldn’t ride a horse anymore?

Impossible. How could someone forget something they once knew how to do?

Hua Cancan watched Bian Yingning’s back, while Shang Qinghui watched Bian Yingning’s pale face approach.
