Let me know what you think! Rate and comment if you liked it, otherwise, no worries."

Seeing Shang Qinghui dressed so exquisitely, Bian Yingning only had one thought: who wouldn’t love a beautiful girl?

“You don’t even greet your father when you see him? Don’t you know I’ll worry if you hide here?”

A beautiful and eloquent girl… Forget it.

Shang Qinghui’s words shattered Bian Yingning’s fantasy.

The pink filter of the Barbie doll image shattered.

Bian Yingning believed no one could get the better of her. She covered her mouth in feigned surprise: “No way, no way. Someone wouldn’t forget who their father is after waking up from a drunken stupor, would they?”

Annoying and arrogant.

The mention of alcohol angered Shang Qinghui. She glared at Bian Yingning, wanting to devour her: “What did you do last night!”

Bian Yingning frowned, feigning grievance: “Last night? I saw a man harassing a girl, chased him away, and sent the girl home. I was so tired I slept in the car.”

She even pretended to sneeze: “Achoo. See? Even in summer, you shouldn’t sleep in a car. I think I’m getting a cold.”

She shrugged: “My body aches from sleeping curled up in the car all night. But I did a good deed; what can I do? I’m just kind-hearted.”

This was, of course, a lie. She slept soundly in her luxurious bed; Zhuo Yi even looked disgusted when she changed the sheets in the morning.

Shang Qinghui was stunned, momentarily confused.

Could Bian Yingning have done all that out of kindness?

But the next second, she shook her head, dismissing the thought: “Oh? Kind enough to take advantage of someone while they were drunk?”

Now it was Bian Yingning’s turn to look shocked: “Taking advantage? I, Bian Yingning, am upright and honest! Don’t accuse me falsely! Besides, that girl was so young, barely grown, I wouldn’t want her even if she were given to me, hehe.”

Shang Qinghui’s fists clenched; she was so angry she almost passed out.

Kindness? Had I been kicked in the head to almost believe her lies?

“Don’t play dumb. You do things but don’t take responsibility, right?”

Bian Yingning smiled, using her champagne glass to lift Shang Qinghui’s chin. She lowered her voice: “Sister, you can’t say whatever you want. I didn’t take advantage of you.”

She glanced at Shang Qinghui’s neckline.

This startled Shang Qinghui; she covered her neckline and stepped back: “Where are you looking?!”

Bian Yingning shrugged: “You’re accusing me; I can look, can’t I? The damage is done.”

“You know that’s not what I mean!” Shang Qinghui wondered if she was the one causing trouble.

It felt like she was the one in trouble.

“Oh? You mean you calling me ‘Dad’?”

“…”

“That’s not taking advantage; it’s an exchange. I told you a secret; you gave me something in return. Is there a problem?”

Bian Yingning looked innocent and finished her champagne.

“…”

Shang Qinghui gritted her teeth, realizing she couldn’t win on this point. She took a deep breath and tried again.

She looked Bian Yingning up and down: “How can someone with no figure wear this kind of dress? Don’t you have other dresses?

Goodness, you can tell me if you have any problems. We’ve known each other for so long; I wouldn’t let you embarrass yourself.”

Bian Yingning smiled, unfazed, put down her glass, and excitedly grabbed Shang Qinghui’s hand, like a wanderer meeting a fellow villager.

“Really, Huíhuí! You’re so thoughtful. I’m not afraid to be laughed at…”

Bian Yingning tilted her head, giving Shang Qinghui a sad profile: “I’ve always been poor and wanted a beautiful dress, especially one like yours. It’s so pretty; would you give me one?”

“…”

Shang Qinghui calmly removed Bian Yingning’s hand, picked up her dress, and turned to leave.

She understood; Bian Yingning wasn’t the same.

The old Bian Yingning was annoying but had some bottom line; the new Bian Yingning had none.

Bian Yingning: “?” What’s this? Why is she leaving after only a few words?

Her fighting spirit is weak.

Most people in the banquet hall were dancing, couples swaying to the waltz music.

Those who weren’t invited to dance were often ridiculed.

Of course, this was also a good time for networking and making deals.

Speaking of deals, Bian Yingning remembered her 50 unsettled points.

Seeing Shang Qinghui’s back, Bian Yingning quickly caught up and stood in front of her.

“What do you want?” Shang Qinghui was still angry; Bian Yingning’s sudden appearance startled her.

In contrast, Bian Yingning smiled gently: “Don’t be angry. May I ask you for a dance?”

Her slightly elongated eyes looked lazy when she wasn’t smiling, but gentle when she did.

Shang Qinghui was momentarily stunned by her smile, then said, “Boring,” and walked past her.

Since she had already spoken and acted, she had to follow through.

Bian Yingning persistently followed, lifting her skirt and gracefully extending her hand: “Beautiful Miss Shang Qinghui, may I have the honor of this dance?”

A very formal invitation.

However, such invitations are usually made by men. Shang Qinghui had never seen a woman invite another woman to dance, especially two prominent figures in H City.

Their actions had already attracted attention. When Bian Yingning bowed to invite Shang Qinghui, almost everyone looked over.

Various speculations arose:

“Isn’t that Miss Shang and Miss Bian?”

“Yes, aren’t they rivals? What are they doing?”

“Inviting to dance? Young girls don’t have deep grudges.”

“Rumors are unreliable.”

“You…” Shang Qinghui stared at Bian Yingning’s smiling eyes, nervously clutching her dress, feeling exposed under everyone’s gaze.

“Hmm?” Bian Yingning smiled back.

Her smile irritated Shang Qinghui.

Why was she smiling? What was her ulterior motive?

Wasn’t she afraid of being embarrassed if I refused?

No, it was deliberate!

She guessed Shang Qinghui would refuse, so she wasn’t genuinely inviting her; she wanted to spread rumors about her refusal, saying she was being rude and making others uncomfortable.

Ouyang Fei might force her to apologize, with gifts!

Everyone knew the Shang and Bian families were close; a refusal would create rumors of conflict.

Thinking of stock market fluctuations and Ouyang Fei’s nagging, Shang Qinghui understood.

It was just a dance. Bian Yingning thought she wouldn’t dare, huh? She wouldn’t let her have her way.

“Congratulations. You’re lucky to have this honor,” Shang Qinghui forced a smile, even sweeter than Bian Yingning’s.

Her voice was soft; onlookers only saw Shang Qinghui accepting the invitation, and they happily danced.

Her light green nails made her fingers look slender and white as she placed her hand in Bian Yingning’s.

Their body temperatures mingled.

Shang Qinghui suppressed her discomfort.

I never thought I’d waltz with my rival.

Holding Shang Qinghui’s hand, Bian Yingning only thought, So soft.

Like a peeled scallion, smooth and slippery.

The light pink dress flowed, accompanied by black.

Two women with different temperaments began the waltz. The music flowed around them; their dresses swayed as they danced under everyone’s gaze.

Everything seemed harmonious.

The next second, Shang Qinghui’s face contorted: “Bian Yingning!”

“I’m sorry!” Bian Yingning apologized, moving her foot that was stepping on Shang Qinghui’s.

System: “…Host, can you waltz?”

Bian Yingning: I have a little experience.

System: “What kind of experience?” I didn’t detect this skill.

I’ve seen it in dramas.

System: “?”

“This is your goal?” Shang Qinghui’s smile faltered.

“What?” Bian Yingning didn’t understand.

“You invited me to dance to get revenge—” Bian Yingning stepped on Shang Qinghui’s foot again.

Not only did her foot hurt, but her heart hurt too.

She had finally gotten these shoes, and she dared to step on them?!

Shang Qinghui was in physical and emotional pain.

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to!”

Bian Yingning truly didn’t intend this; she wanted to ask Shang Qinghui about the talent show, suggesting she take second place or not participate and hang out with her instead.

She didn’t expect the waltz to be so difficult.
