Let me know what you think! Rate and comment if you liked it, otherwise, no worries."

Nangong Jin, who had always been successful and adored, had never been so humiliated in his life.

How dare she, Bian Yingning!

Again and again. Last time, she pulled my hair and kneed me, and now she’s humiliating me with money, comparing me to a gigolo! She thinks she can get away with anything, doesn’t she?

Thinking this, Nangong Jin intended to push past the bodyguard, maintaining his dignity, but the bodyguard remained unmoved, causing Nangong Jin to stumble back.

Nangong Jin: “…”

Bian Yingning slowly retrieved her card, frowning.

This male lead is such a weakling.

Shouldn’t he be able to fight ten people without flinching? Is it because my bodyguards are slightly more skilled, having been in combat?

Nangong Jin glanced at the bodyguard, who was half a head taller and had a fierce gaze, gritted his teeth, and walked away.

Bian Yingning pouted, noticing Shang Qinghui’s friends huddled in the corner, watching the drama unfold with wide eyes.

She raised an eyebrow, adopting a wealthy woman’s demeanor: “Put tonight’s bill on Shang Qinghui’s tab.”

Shang Qinghui’s friends: “…” Why does it feel like you’re saying to put it on your tab?

…

The female supporting character is dealt with; now for the female lead.

The male lead is gone; the female lead, who was harassed, is in danger without him to save her.

As the embodiment of bravery, justice, and heroism, I, Bian Yingning, must step in.

Since the system upgrade, Bian Yingning easily found the female lead in the crowd.

She was wearing a black and white maid-style miniskirt, with simple makeup. Her natural beauty, combined with her loose hair, made her look less innocent and more alluring.

Ji Xiaoxue stood by a booth, her hands clasped in front of her, waiting for customers’ requests, such as pouring drinks or serving fruit platters.

As the night deepened, the people in the bar lost their composure. A balding man offered Ji Xiaoxue a drink, suggesting a celebratory toast.

Ji Xiaoxue was stiff, holding the drink awkwardly.

A woman sitting at the booth gestured for Ji Xiaoxue to drink with the man.

Ji Xiaoxue clinked glasses with him. He grabbed her and tried to force a celebratory toast, his hand on her shoulder.

Ji Xiaoxue cowered, trying to push him away.

The music was loud; shouting wouldn’t be heard.

He leaned close to her ear, pretending to explain the toast but burying his face in her hair, taking a deep breath, and trying to kiss her cheek.

Just as his lips were about to touch her face, a hand grabbed his head and pushed it back. He flailed his arms, unable to see what was happening behind him.

The bodyguard pulled his head back, causing him to stumble into another booth and roll around with the people there.

The people in the booth fought back.

The commotion attracted security guards, and the area became chaotic. Bian Yingning had already pulled the female lead away.

Ji Xiaoxue, from surprised to relieved, followed Bian Yingning, stumbling in her unfamiliar high heels.

Outside the bar, the noise and music faded; she felt like she had escaped a den of demons.

Ji Xiaoxue looked at Bian Yingning’s back—straight, her clothes luxurious and elegant.

A car passed, its headlights reflecting off Bian Yingning’s clothes. She closed her eyes.

This reminded her of something; she pulled her wrist from Bian Yingning’s grasp.

Bian Yingning stopped and turned, her expression displeased, like a teacher catching a misbehaving student.

They stared at each other in silence.

After a long time, Bian Yingning sighed: “Why aren’t you in school? You should find a decent part-time job. This place is not suitable for a young girl.”

Ji Xiaoxue pursed her lips; her low-cut dress revealed her collarbones, which were prominent from holding her breath.

Bian Yingning realized how thin she was.

“Where I work is none of your business,” Ji Xiaoxue’s nails dug into her flesh; she looked at Bian Yingning defiantly.

Bian Yingning was surprised that the usually gentle female lead would say this.

She probably wasn’t feeling well, so Bian Yingning didn’t mind, putting on a hurt expression:

“I… you’re my junior. I treat you like my sister. I’m worried about you.”

Ji Xiaoxue looked at Bian Yingning coldly: “Senior, you’re terrifying.” She spoke each word slowly.

Bian Yingning frowned, puzzled.

“How can you pretend to care about me, to treat me like a sister or a friend?” Ji Xiaoxue couldn’t contain her anger and hurt.

Her eyes were red, and she fought back tears: “You don’t describe me like that to your friends, to your real friends!”

Bian Yingning quickly remembered what she said to Hua Cancan at noon to dispel her suspicions: “No… that wasn’t true…”

“Not true? When was it true? Now?” Ji Xiaoxue pressed.

Bian Yingning didn’t know how to explain.

Ji Xiaoxue’s silence only strengthened her belief: “So you approached me with ulterior motives, right?”

“You, Shang Qinghui, and Hua Cancan, you’re all from the same world. I’m just a plaything to spice up your lives!”

“I even suspect the car accident on the first day of school was deliberately arranged by you!”

Bian Yingning opened her mouth.

In a way, she did approach her with ulterior motives—for the mission, not because of a chance encounter.

“Say something! Explain!”

Seeing Bian Yingning’s silence, Ji Xiaoxue, who had been pressing her, began to panic.

She thought she knew the truth, but now that it was before her, she couldn’t accept it.

“Speak!” Ji Xiaoxue shouted hoarsely.

Security guards at the bar entrance looked over.

Bian Yingning sighed: “I never treated you as a plaything. You were just a junior to me.

I genuinely wanted you to be happy, to enjoy your four years of university.

After graduation, when you look back on this time, I hope you’ll smile and think you had a wonderful college life.”

“Liar.” Tears streamed down Ji Xiaoxue’s face; she pouted and retorted.

“I know moving to H City might be difficult. I meant what I said; if you’re bullied or have problems, you can always come to me.”

Bian Yingning didn’t explain further; some things she couldn’t say.

She couldn’t tell Ji Xiaoxue that she was the female lead in an old-fashioned romance novel and that she was doing all this to complete a mission to survive.

Bian Yingning took a card from her bag and slipped it into Ji Xiaoxue’s hand: “No matter what difficulties you face, this card has some money. Use it and don’t work here anymore.”

Before Ji Xiaoxue could refuse, Bian Yingning held her hand, urging her to hold the card tightly: “If you don’t want my money, consider it a loan. Don’t let yourself end up like this again. I’ll worry, and I can’t guarantee I’ll always be there to help.”

Bian Yingning stepped back, telling her bodyguard: “Follow her tonight and protect her.”

After the bodyguard nodded, she turned and left quickly.

The card’s edge grazed Ji Xiaoxue’s skin. She looked at Bian Yingning’s departing back, tears streaming down her face, and sobbed uncontrollably.

What was she to Bian Yingning?

Why was she so kind, making her believe the lies, even feeling happy and sweet about it?

Hearing her conversation with Hua Cancan and then her mother’s tearful call, she felt like she had lived several lifetimes in a single day.

An eighteen-year-old girl’s shoulders carried too much.

…

Bian Yingning knew why Ji Xiaoxue was working there.

In the original story, the female lead had a younger brother who was a good student but was diagnosed with albinism and needed a bone marrow transplant.

The female lead in these novels is usually poor, relying on scholarships and part-time jobs to survive.

In the plot, she would be taken away by the male lead, humiliated, and forced to become his lover in exchange for money to save her brother.

Bian Yingning sighed.

Even knowing she was in a domineering CEO novel, she couldn’t help but be angry.

Why did the male lead have to choose the female lead? Was it because they had met as children?

Was that even love?

The female lead could have a normal life—graduate, find a kind person, get married, and live happily.

Instead, she’s with the male lead, experiencing all the cliché plot points.

She didn’t understand.

She didn’t know if what she was doing was right, but the system hadn’t stopped her from changing the plot… she could only take it one step at a time.

Back at the car, Shang Qinghui was leaning against the car door, pouting, her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes downcast, like a dog locked out, looking pitiful.

Bian Yingning crouched down to look at her.

Shang Qinghui’s dazed eyes met Bian Yingning’s.

Bian Yingning couldn’t help but chuckle: “Why do you look like a bun, a squished bun expressing its displeasure?”

Shang Qinghui shifted her face, avoiding Bian Yingning’s gaze.

Bian Yingning moved closer: “Why aren’t you talking? Are you a soup bun, afraid of spilling your filling?”

“Ahh— you’re so annoying!” Shang Qinghui, disturbed by the noise, wrinkled her nose, bared her teeth at Bian Yingning, and shouted impatiently.

A strong smell of alcohol wafted over; she must have drunk a lot.

“Hahahaha.” Seeing Shang Qinghui about to explode, Bian Yingning laughed so hard she almost fell over as she got into the car.

“Go to the Shang family first,” Bian Yingning told the driver after she stopped laughing; another bodyguard sat in the passenger seat, looking straight ahead.

The luxury car slowly started, and Bian Yingning teased the drunk Shang Qinghui.

She tugged at her hair; Shang Qinghui, without turning around, shook her shoulders as if trying to shake Bian Yingning’s hand away.

“What? I rescued you and saved your first kiss. Is this how you treat your savior?”

Bian Yingning recalled something from when she first arrived: “But then again, you’re a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s not surprising.”

Shang Qinghui seemed to realize Bian Yingning was mocking her and turned around abruptly.

The car wasn’t fully lit; only the blue ambient lights were on. Shang Qinghui’s dark eyes stared at Bian Yingning’s face: “Saved my first kiss? Didn’t you already steal my first kiss?”

Screech—

“Ouch—”

“I’m sorry, miss…” The driver apologized, terrified.

Shang Qinghui’s words startled the driver; the car swerved and braked suddenly, throwing Shang Qinghui into Bian Yingning’s arms.

Her head hit Bian Yingning’s chin; Bian Yingning’s teeth hit her lower lip.

A sharp pain shot through her; she held Shang Qinghui in her arms and touched her mouth.

“Damn.” It was bleeding.

Bian Yingning wiped the blood from her lip, while Shang Qinghui lay still in her arms.

Remembering her words, Bian Yingning pushed her away uncomfortably.

She was about to scold her for sullying her reputation when some inappropriate images flashed in her mind.

“Bullshit! You stole mine! I almost lost my innocence!”

Remembering what happened when she first arrived, it was like a horror movie.

There was blood all over the bed; they were both disheveled, one of them dazed and only thinking about sex.

The driver gripped the steering wheel tightly: “…” It was exciting, but he had to stay calm!

The expressionless bodyguard, pinching his thigh: “…” He had no feelings, but he wanted to hear more.

Shang Qinghui sneered, ignoring Bian Yingning, looking out the window.

Bian Yingning gritted her teeth, thinking of a mischievous plan.

She turned on her phone’s recorder and leaned closer.

“Shang Qinghui, I have a secret to tell you.”

Shang Qinghui turned, her eyes watery but unfocused; she was quite drunk.

But she was a good drunk; she was quiet and didn’t cause a scene.

“Tell me.” The concise Shang Qinghui only said two words.

“Since it’s a secret, I can’t just tell you. Call me ‘Dad,’ and I’ll tell you.” Bian Yingning grinned mischievously.

Shang Qinghui turned her head away: “I don’t want to.”

“It’s about you,” Bian Yingning persisted.

Shang Qinghui hesitated: “I don’t want to.”

Bian Yingning sat up straight: “It’s important; it might affect your life.”

Shang Qinghui paused, her mind unclear: “You’re not lying?”

“Why would I lie? It’s an important secret that will affect your life. If we weren’t friends for so long, I wouldn’t tell you.”

Bian Yingning spoke convincingly, even the driver and bodyguard pricked up their ears.

Shang Qinghui hesitated.

Bian Yingning added: “I’m only asking you tonight. This is your only chance.”

The car was quiet for a moment. Shang Qinghui pursed her lips, then, as if making a decision, leaned close to Bian Yingning’s ear and whispered, “Dad.”

Her voice was soft and slightly shy.

Bian Yingning felt a shiver down her spine.

She smiled brightly and leaned close to Shang Qinghui’s ear: “I’ll tell you a secret: you’re not my biological daughter.”

“…”

Shang Qinghui fell silent.

One, two, three seconds…

She blinked, realizing what had happened, then lunged at Bian Yingning, shouting, “Bian Yingning! You bastard!”

“Hahahaha—” Bian Yingning laughed heartily; they wrestled in the back seat.

Shang Qinghui tried to choke Bian Yingning; Bian Yingning tickled Shang Qinghui; neither could gain the upper hand.

The driver and bodyguard exchanged glances, a glint of gossip in their eyes.

The luxury car swayed towards the Shang family’s house.

…

Ji Xiaoxue, who had just stood up at the bar, froze in place.

There were few cars on the street. Seeing a car, she thought it was Bian Yingning and wiped her tears, only to see—

A familiar luxury car. The window was down; the usually antagonistic pair were sitting in the back seat.

The car swayed, and Shang Qinghui fell into Bian Yingning’s arms.

The car drove away; Ji Xiaoxue couldn’t see anything anymore.

Giving her money and a bodyguard, but not personally taking her home.

Heh.

…

[Prevent the female supporting character from kissing and slapping the female lead. Task successful. Completion rate 100%, points obtained: 180]

[Host total points: 360, unsettled points: 50]

The 50 unsettled points are from the campus talent show task.

“Host, please note. The male lead’s dislike for you has reached 180%. Please be careful.”

After leaving Shang Qinghui with Ouyang Fei and receiving thanks, Bian Yingning rested her hand on the car window, gazing at the scenery, looking like a CEO contemplating a multi-billion dollar contract.

System, why is there an additional 80% beyond the percentage?

System: “…”

System, why are human relationships so difficult? I didn’t do anything, yet his dislike for me is off the charts. What did I do wrong?

System: “…”

System, I don’t understand. I really don’t understand.

If the system had a physical body, it would have a cross representing anger on its forehead.

“…Host, perhaps we should look at the plot.”

Okay. Bian Yingning withdrew her hand, crossed her legs, and placed her interlocked fingers on her knees—another CEO pose.

System: “…”

In the original story, the male and female leads are already involved at this point.

The party where Hua Jiangrong, Hua Cancan’s aunt, falls into the male lead’s arms is the engagement banquet of Duanmu Zhengran, the eldest son of the Duanmu family.

The Duanmu family is also a prominent family in H City, though not as influential as the four major families. Their power lies in politics, not business. Their ancestors were founding fathers.

…Bian Yingning is speechless at these impressive settings.

A classic tragic romance can’t be without a male second lead.

In Cold CEO’s Doting: Wife Runs Away with the Ball, the devoted male second lead is Duanmu Zhenghao, the younger son of the Duanmu family.

The Duanmu family has three children: the eldest son, Duanmu Zhengran; a daughter, Duanmu Zhengjie, who returned from studying abroad three years ago and is now a female translator who appears on the news; and Duanmu Zhenghao.
