Sheng Fei took out a white paper from her backpack and wrote some large characters on it with a black pen.

As she wrote, she explained, “One yuan for 15 circles, two yuan for 35 circles. These are used for ring-tossing. As long as you hit the target, you can take the prize.”

The little girl’s mother found it quite novel. “Is it really true that whatever you hit, you get?”

Sheng Fei replied, “Of course.”

The little girl’s mother did some calculations and noticed that there was a gold toad ornament inside. That thing was worth at least tens of yuan. If she could hit it with just one yuan, that would be a huge profit.

Sheng Fei saw that she was tempted, and continued persuasively, “Everyone passing by, don’t miss this opportunity. It doesn’t cost much, and it’s fun. Even if you don’t manage to hit anything in the end, there are consolation prizes.”

The little girl was now very excited. She vigorously tugged at her mother’s skirt, “Mom, I want to play, I want to play!”

“Alright, alright, boss, give me two yuan’s worth.”

Sheng Fei took the money with a smile, counted out 35 circles, and handed them to the little girl.

The little girl tried tossing them one by one, while her mother held the other rings.

The little girl was lucky. On her first try, she managed to hit a hair clip ornament that glittered in the sunlight. “Ah, mom, I hit something, I hit something!”

“Great job!”

Sheng Fei chimed in, “Impressive, little girl, you’ve got good aim. Keep going, keep going.”

The little girl kept tossing, and while she hit several more, they were just small trinkets worth only a few cents. But the little girl was having fun and happily left with her mother, saying that she would come play again next time.

After they left, more people gathered around the stall.

Sheng Fei was pretty and had a sweet mouth. She easily charmed many little girls and older women who didn’t realize that they were spending money on the ring-tossing game. The other vendors looked at her with a mix of envy and admiration.

There were also some very lucky ones, like an old grandpa who managed to hit a crystal tower worth a few yuan.

Sheng Fei praised him profusely and respectfully handed over the crystal tower.

The old grandpa’s face beamed like a chrysanthemum. The surrounding older ladies and children envied him greatly, circling him and praising his skills, making the old man overjoyed.

Unexpectedly, not only could she earn money here, but it was also fun. It was truly worthwhile.

Finally, after an afternoon of operation, Sheng Fei closed up shop.

She carried a large bundle of goods and bought some snacks on her way home.

Without any transportation, she walked all the way back home.

Back in her room, she counted the money. It was a total of yuan. She had only spent 60 yuan on the wholesale goods, so she basically earned back half in one day. It was truly a lucrative business.

In these times, people’s ideas were quite simple, which gave Sheng Fei an advantage.

After getting home, she cooked a meal. She turned around and saw Xiao Wu (TL: Little Five or the youngest child) playing in the mud in the courtyard. Aside from Xiao Wu, the others had all gone to school.

Xiao Wu was five years old this year, and truthfully he should have already started preschool.

“Is that you, Xiao Wu? What are you molding there?”

Sheng Fei was just about to chat with Xiao Wu, but unexpectedly, he directly turned around and leave. He went into the room and slammed the door without uttering a single word.

Sheng Fei was disliked, “…”

She had no choice but to stand outside the door and shout, “I’m going to pick up your big brother and sister now. You stay here and don’t go out, I’ll be back soon.”

Xiao Wu still did not respond.

This was the first time Sheng Fei went to pick up Lu Da and the others from their school.

Previously, all the parent-teacher meetings had been attended by Lu Ting.

Lu Ting was busy, and the parents and grandparents only took care of the children in the second household and never looked after Lu Da’s group. So Lu Da and the others had always come home by themselves.
