The Lu family had a well for water, which was convenient for drinking and using water, but the well was in the courtyard of the main house. So if you wanted to use the water, you had to go next door.

When Sheng Fei went to the next door to get water, the people in the main house were already eating their hot meals.

Compared to the gloomy atmosphere in the house, there was laughter and chatter everywhere in this place.

Seeing Sheng Fei come over, the others pretended not to notice her. Only Xu Yuxia ate her food with a sarcastic smile. “Oh, you’re here. Haven’t had your meal yet? We have some leftovers, do you want some?”

The tone was mocking. It was obvious that she was making fun of Sheng Fei.

She thought the usually timid Sheng Fei would force a smile, but she didn’t expect that she would just ignored them.

Xu Yuxia was completely ignored. Her sour face darkened and she sneered. “She’s so arrogant now, huh.”

She would still politely call Sheng Fei her sister-in-law, but without any courtesy.

Sheng Fei’s husband had died, and she couldn’t go back to her own family either. As a woman alone with five children to support, even after the Lu family split up, she would still come over to curry favor with the main house from time to time.

Even though this time it was they who had wronged Sheng Fei, Xu Yuxia still felt that Sheng Fei wouldn’t dare to break off with them.

Xu Yuxia was a petty-minded person. She decided to humiliate Sheng Fei when she came begging next time.

Sheng Fei wasn’t sure about Lu Ting and the five children’s likes when in came to food, so she cooked a bit more porridge and stir-fried two small dishes.

The four little ones had been hungry all night. Their stomachs were growling. However, they were worried about San Ya, so they ignored their hunger. Now that San Ya was safe, they could smell the fragrance from the kitchen and realized that they were hungry.

After Sheng Fei finished cooking, the group looked at each other and didn’t know if they should eat or not.

Would she be so kind-hearted?

Sheng Fei had been lazy for so long and now she was suddenly diligent, which made them uncomfortable.

“What’s wrong? The food isn’t poisoned, eat up.”

Sheng Fei started eating first. Five pairs of little eyes and one pair of big eyes all focused on her. Lu Ting frowned, pondering the reason for Sheng Fei’s change.

“Didn’t you say you can’t cook?”

Sheng Fei laughed and gave a perfunctory answer, “I couldn’t before, but I can now.”

Lu Yang pouted, “I’m hungry.”

Lu Ting withdrew his gaze, his brows slightly furrowed. “Alright, let’s eat together.”

With the uncle’s words, they finally started eating.

No one knew whether it was their imagination or not, but the five little ones suddenly found Sheng Fei’s cooking much more delicious than before, no, it was outright delicious.

Before, her cooking was not only bad-tasting, but also ugly. Either there was too much salt or too little soy sauce. Sometimes the porridge would be even burnt, or the vegetables would be scorched. Later they found out that even at her own family, her cooking could set the kitchen on fire, so it was Lu Ting who usually cooked the meals over time.

Maybe with some simple dishes from the eldest brother, but the eldest brother’s wife was stingy, and the grandparents also didn’t like them, so they also didn’t bother to make things difficult for themselves. When Lu Ting was too busy to cook, they often went hungry one meal and full the next, so they were just skin and bones. They were unlike the two chubby and robust boys in the main house.

As for Sheng Fei, she would use the money Lu Ting gave her to buy some snacks and eat them behind their backs, or directly go to the county to eat.

She never cared for the five little ones.

Sheng Fei saw that Lu Da (TL: Lu Da means Big Lu or Big Brother Lu. He is the eldest child/first son.) was eating ravenously, like a starving wolf pouncing on its prey, choking on the hard steamed buns without slowing down.

Sheng Fei felt a bit guilty. Lu Da was already ten years old, but he looked around six or seven. It was obvious that his nutrition couldn’t keep up with his growth.

At least Lu Ting, as an adult, ate slowly. He occasionally picked up dishes for the children, his gaze on them gentle and kind.
