It implied that Sheng Fei was forcing the child to work as a stepmother.

Can such a young child know how to work?

After hearing this, Lu Ting’s dark eyes swept over Sheng Fei. He suppressed his anger and opened his mouth, but considering Lu Yang’s condition, he chose not to settle score with her right then and there.

However, he made a mental note of Sheng Fei’s actions.

He knew that Sheng Fei, not being the biological mother, wouldn’t take good care of them, but he never expected her to actually dare to mistreat them.

He had been giving all the salary he earned these days to Sheng Fei instead of his parents, hoping that she would treat the children better.

But what did she do? How did she treat them?

If it weren’t for Xu Yuxia telling him, he would still be in the dark.

Sheng Fei was feeling guilty and regretful in her heart.

Why did this have to happen at such a bad time? The original owner of this body was responsible for this and she couldn’t get away from it.

Should she tell Lu Ting that she wasn’t the original Sheng Fei and that she had changed her mind?

No matter where she said this, people would consider her crazy.

Sheng Fei moved her lips and saw Xu Yuxia’s triumphant gaze. She lowered her eyes and stood there, resembling a naughty child being punished by a teacher.

Lu Ting glanced at Sheng Fei a few times and then looked at Lu Yang. Dr. Zhou opened Lu Yang’s mouth and eyes to observe her reactions, then examined the wound. He said in surprise, “It seems like we’re lucky this time. It wasn’t a venomous snake, and San Ya wasn’t poisoned.”

Lu Yang bit her own tongue, and the blood from the wound was red, which showed that she wasn’t poisoned.

“Uncle…”

At this moment, a weak voice sounded by the bedside.

“I’m here.”

Seeing her finally awake, Lu Ting’s eyes turned red. He held Lu Yang tightly in his arms to comfort her.

Xu Yuxia hurriedly expressed her concern, “San Ya is awake, everything is fine.”

Lu Jiefang also said, “It’s good that nothing serious happened, it’s really good.”

“Am I going to die?”

Lu Yang weakly leaned against Lu Ting’s chest and he quickly reassured her, “No, absolutely not.”

Their relationship was as good as that of a biological father and daughter. Dr. Zhou was deeply moved when he saw this.

“Now that San Ya is awake and there are no major issues, but just to be safe, you should go to the county for further examination.”

Lu Ting had the same idea. Finally, Lu Jiefang and his wife went home first, while Lu Ting and Sheng Fei each rode a bicycle. Lu Ting carried Lu Yang and went to the county hospital.

The examination results were consistent with what Dr. Zhou had said, and Lu Ting finally felt relieved.

After a day and night of turmoil, the three of them couldn’t delay any longer and hurriedly returned in the morning.

At home, the four little ones were waiting for news, stretching their necks at the village entrance. Finally, they saw Lu Ting coming back.

“Uncle!”

“Uncle, is San Ya okay?”

Although Xu Yuxia had already told them yesterday, the four little children just wanted to confirm it with their own eyes.

Lu Ting’s tense heart relaxed. “She’s fine. The doctor said San Ya can do normal activities again after resting for a few days.”

Big Brother Lu wiped the sweat off his forehead and muttered, “That’s great.”

Lu Ting and Sheng Fei pushed their bicycles back home, but the children chattered around Lu Ting and Lu Yang, ignoring her completely.

Knowing that she was disliked, Sheng Fei silently followed behind.

Upon returning home, during the time when Lu Ting was still talking to the children, Sheng Fei went to the kitchen to cook.

The kitchen was very simple and cramped, with piles of straw used for fueling the stove. The rest of the space was occupied by rice, noodles, bowls, chopsticks, and miscellaneous items. There were pots, bowls, ladles, and everything else you’d expect to find.

At this time, they didn’t use gas for cooking. They used an open fire to cook in iron pots. Sheng Fei, who had experienced poverty and hard work in her previous life, found cooking with a pot over a fire very simple.
