- Chapter 336 - Staying Out All Night
Sheng Fei was thinking about cooking for the five children. She lit the fire in the stove, took a ladle to scoop water, and prepared to make century egg and lean meat congee.
As she focused on the fire, footsteps approached. Sheng Fei ignored them, but the man behind her handed her something. “This is your favorite osmanthus cake. Would you like to try it?”
Sheng Fei didn’t want to respond.
She shot Lu Ting a glance and continued fiddling with the firewood.
The man then sat down beside her, trying to ease the tension between them.
Unfortunately, Sheng Fei just got up and left.
This left Lu Ting alone in the kitchen.
After finishing breakfast with the children, Sheng Fei didn’t speak to Lu Ting. She simply grabbed her small bag and headed outside. Lu Ting hurried after her.
Seeing her push the large bicycle made him a bit uneasy.
“Sheng Fei.”
With a blank expression, Sheng Fei turned to glance at Lu Ting, then fixed her gaze straight ahead.
“Is there something you need?”
“Are you still mad?”
“It has nothing to do with you.”
“I was wrong in this matter, and I apologize!”
Lu Ting didn’t want to see Sheng Fei’s indifferent attitude. He rubbed his aching head. His mind was still hazy after drinking, and he felt uncomfortable.
“Don’t worry, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
“About yesterday…”
“Don’t bring it up again,” Sheng Fei shot Lu Ting a fierce glare, not wanting to mention what happened last night. She pushed Lu Ting aside. “I don’t want to hear you talk. Before I get really angry, just disappear from my sight.”
Sheng Fei was avoiding the issue and didn’t want to delve into Lu Ting’s intentions.
After Sheng Fei left, Lu Ting sat there dejectedly.
He was deep in thought about his relationship with Sheng Fei. He had upset her, but he really didn’t know how to coax her.
As Sheng Fei walked away, she muttered angrily about Lu Ting.
She wasn’t sure why she was so upset, but she was dissatisfied with Lu Ting’s actions.
Sheng Fei spent the night out and not returning home. Lu Ting was so anxious that he kept walking around the house. With five children to care for, he couldn’t leave, so he had to ask his friends and brothers to help look for Sheng Fei.
When the children asked Lu Ting where Sheng Fei had gone, Lu Ting broke into a sweat, unsure how to explain their current situation.
He certainly couldn’t say they had argued, so he just told them she had something to take care of.
Lu Yang: “Huh? Mom isn’t home? I miss Mom. Uncle, can you go find her?”
Lu Xiaosi: “Yeah, Mom has never been away from us this long. I really miss her.”
Lu Xiaowu: “I miss her too. The food Uncle makes isn’t good. I want to eat what Mom makes.”
Lu Ting found their comments both amusing and distressing. “Why didn’t you say my food was bad while you were eating? Now you’re all picky and not eating it. You used to eat it just fine!”
Lu Da and Lu Er spoke in unison, “It’s different.”
“What’s different?”
“Everything is different. We miss Mom. Uncle, please go and look for her.”
Lu Yang wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes, feeling a bit sad.
She had only just accepted Sheng Fei as her new mom, and now it felt like she had abandoned them. Lu Yang’s insecurity appeared again.
She remembered a classmate named Chunhua. Chunhua’s mother said she was busy and went to the county, only to never return. As such, Chunhua had been left behind. This made Lu Yang cling tightly to Lu Ting’s arm.
Lu Ting finally managed to coax the five children and get them to sleep.
Letting out a sigh of relief, he realized how challenging it must be for Sheng Fei to take care of the children alone.
With a bitter smile, Lu Ting spent the night sleepless.
