Recently, Lu Ting has been acting strangely, and Sheng Fei can hardly bear to look at him.

He either mistakes soy sauce for vinegar when making noodles, or he tries to eat from an empty bowl, or he bumps his head at home for no reason.

Sheng Fei couldn’t help but laugh, “What’s wrong with you?”

Lu Ting’s mouth twitched as he looked at the innocent expression of the culprit, unsure of whom to complain to.

After the misunderstanding last time, Lu Ting would make sure that Sheng Fei was in bed before he went to sleep, but lately Lu Ting had been aware that he wasn’t quite himself and often lost focus.

“Lu Ting, Lu Ting?!”

“Ah!” Lu Ting jolted awake and saw Lu Yang’s resentful little face. “Uncle, do you want some egg pancakes?”

Earlier, Lu Yang had said she wasn’t full and was clamoring for an egg pancake. This was a new dish that Sheng Fei had recently experimented with. The first time the children had it, they burned their little mouths and hands but still said they wanted more, so Sheng Fei had made a few more.

Of course, Lu Ting wanted to eat. “Sure.”

Sheng Fei’s cooking skills had improved tremendously. It was so delicious that one could almost swallow their tongue.

Sheng Fei diligently went to make the egg pancakes. Lu Ting initially wanted to help, but within a minute, Sheng Fei had pushed him out, saying he was being clumsy and made things worse. Only Lu Da and Lu Er were allowed to help.

“Ha ha ha… Uncle has been scolded by Mom lately!”

Lu Yang said loudly after taking a sip of her porridge, laughing loudly. Lu Ting’s face darkened. “Sanya.”

Lu Ting grabbed Lu Yang’s small body. He playfully pinched her soft cheek and said, a bit displeased. “You call Sheng Fei Mom so easily.”

Lu Yang replied matter-of-factly, “Of course, Mom treats me well, so I recognize her as my mom.”

“Then who’s your dad?”

“I think Teacher Xu is quite suitable to be a dad. During the last home visit, he told us to treat our mother well, saying mothers has it hard.”

The girl’s innocent words successfully darkened Lu Ting’s expression, his face clouded and silent.

He certainly knew who Teacher Xu was.

Recently, a new teacher named Xu Mingda had transferred to the village primary school. At just twenty years old and a vocational secondary school graduate, he could have been assigned to a better place to teach but chose to return to his hometown to contribute. When Lu Yang was selected as a child actor last time, Sheng Fei had gone to the school to negotiate with the leaders. After those visits, she became familiar with Xu Mingda. Hearing that Sheng Fei was Lu Yang’s stepmother and currently single, it was no surprise that he was exceptionally attentive, giving Lu Yang more care than the other children.

Lu Ting understood the underlying intentions all too well.

He firmly rejected this behavior, but there was a little traitor in the family. “Why do you think he could be your dad?”

Lu Yang counted Xu Mingda’s good qualities on her fingers. “He’s good-looking, treats me and Mom well, and when classmates bully me, Teacher Xu helps me stand up for myself. He also plays hide-and-seek with my oldest brother, second brother, and fourth brother. My brothers all like him a lot.”

She didn’t understand the heavy responsibilities of being a parent. She just liked people who were nice to her.

“Shallow! Can good looks be a meal?”

Lu Ting felt a knot in his stomach. When he heard Lu Yang say that Xu Mingda was good to Sheng Fei, for some reason, he felt a heaviness in his chest, a restless feeling surging within him.

Xu Mingda didn’t do any hard labor. He spent all day in the classroom, sheltered from rain and wind, so naturally he looked fairer than Lu Ting, who had a wheat-colored skin, thick eyebrows, and big eyes. Lu Ting’s features were more refined and elegant. What was there to like about this pretty boy?
