Li Pandi also claimed that she decided not to interfere with Shen Qin anymore, as Shen Qin was the mother of their family’s biological grandson. She humbly assured Lu Yi and Shen Qin that she would no longer throw tantrums to Shen Qin or do some petty tricks, but would instead treat Shen Qin sincerely.

Thus, during the week of Shen Qin’s confinement, Li Pandi kept her promise and did not bully Shen Qin in any way.

She even took better care of Shen Qin than Shen Qin’s own mother would have. Seeing this change in Li Pandi, Lu Yi felt relieved enough to let Shen Qin’s mother go home, allowing Li Pandi to continue caring for Shen Qin. However, once Shen Qin’s mother left, Li Pandi’s attitude changed.

Li Pandi knew beforehand that Shen Qin’s mother was being paid for helping in taking care of Shen Qin during confinement, so she must have a lot of money. She figured that since she was also helping Shen Qin during her confinement, she should receive some compensation as well. She demanded some money from Lu Yi.

Lu Yi felt a bit uncomfortable inside about this.

Shen Qin’s mother had previously offered to help for free after all. She said there was no need to worry about it. Now, Li Pandi was saying such words. He discussed it with Shen Qin. Shen Qin thought it was better to avoid trouble, so they agreed to give some wages to Li Pandi.

This arrangement allowed Li Pandi to buy better ingredients every day, but this time her methods became even more cunning. She did buy vegetables, but the meat she purchased was often spoiled, dead, or foul-smelling leftovers that no one else wanted.

To put it simply, much of the meat was discarded and not suitable for eating, which she brought home to cook for Shen Qin. Then she skimped on oil and pocketed the money for herself.

After eating the poor-quality meat, Shen Qin nearly vomited.

When she asked Li Pandi why this was happening, Li Pandi replied that this was just how their household operated. Shen Qin didn’t believe her because Li Pandi had previously bought fresh ingredients and made delicious and fragrant meals. But the chicken soup now reeked of a foul odor, looking far from healthy.

The meat was actually from sick animals that had died. It was sold cheaply because it was no longer fresh.

Without healthy chickens, the soup couldn’t possibly taste good, and it might even be harmful to eat.

After two days of eating this food, Shen Qin experienced severe stomach issues and felt something was off.

Following this treatment from Li Pandi, she took the chicken soup Li Pandi had made and said that she had finished drinking it. When Lu Yi returned home that evening, Shen Qin specially handed him the chicken soup.

She said it was made by his mother and urged him to try it. Lu Yi naturally trusted her and drank it without suspicion.

However, he immediately vomited after drinking.

This couldn’t be considered chicken soup at all. It was simply a poisonous chicken soup. The strong and foul odor made it seem as if it had been poisoned.

The soup tasted terrible in the first place, and once it cooled, it was even worse. There was no trace of the original chicken flavor.

Lu Yi was furious this time, but they didn’t confront Li Pandi directly. They waited until she went grocery shopping.

It was only when Lu Ting followed Li Pandi to the market that he discovered why the chicken was problematic.

Li Pandi specifically chose rotten vegetables, often infested with worms and wilted, leftovers that no one else wanted, and sometimes even items that were given away for free. She brought these home, along with very dirty fish and shrimp.
