Lu Da skillfully went out the main gate. He circled around the house next door, moved aside a pile of bricks, and finally spotted a dog hole. He stuck his butt in and crawled through.

After standing up, he dusted off his hands. These days, no one kept dogs, so the courtyards were full of clutter and animals. The moonlight was bright tonight, and the house next door was completely dark. They must be fast asleep.

So Lu Da first went to the chicken and duck coop and found eight chicken eggs and six duck eggs. He took half of them and then opened the fence door, making it seem like the eldest family had simply forgotten to close it.

Next, he went to the pig pen and opened that fence door as well.

After completing all this, Lu Da felt a bit tired.

After resting for a minute or two, he still wasn’t satisfied. Remembering the mocking words of Lu Jixiang today, he stealthily pried open a window. Inside were the couple of the eldest family and Lu Jixiang who were sleeping like dead pigs.

Lu Ruyi and the grandparents were sleeping in another room.

He took out a small condiment jar from his pocket, removed the lid, and flung two coin-sized black spiders onto their bed.

Then he jumped back out to the courtyard and returned home the same way.

He and Lu Er often did these kinds of things, so he was skilled at it and not at all out of breath.

While Lu Da was doing something bad, Lu San Ya also quietly pushed open Sheng Fei’s window.

Seeing the person inside, she mischievously climbed through the window and placed the item Lu Er had taken from Lu Ting’s room under Sheng Fei’s pillow.

Sheng Fei stirred a bit, and Lu San Ya quickly ducked down in panic.

After a while, realizing that Sheng Fei was not awake, she patted her chest in relief and climbed back out.

By the time Lu San Ya and Lu Er returned to their room, Lu Da still hadn’t come back. Lu San Ya furrowed her eyebrows and ran to the door with her short legs. Xiao Si and Xiao Wu softly called out, “Uncle’s back!”

It was Lu Ting who was coming home on his bicycle.

Afraid of being caught, Lu San Ya obediently stood in place to wait for him. Soon Lu Ting rode up to the door and coincidentally encountered the just-returned Lu Da.

He looked at the five children in surprise, “Why aren’t you all asleep yet? Xiao Chen, where did you go?”

Lu Da’s eyes darted around as he chuckled, “I just went to catch some crickets.”

Lu Ting sighed and wheeled his bike inside. “Alright, you still have classes tomorrow, go to sleep now. You’re still growing, don’t be too playful.”

The five children said at the same time, “Okay.”

Lu Ting asked further, “Have you all eaten?”

The children children replied, “Yes.”

Lu Da, “Auntie made the food.”

Lu Er, “She cooked porridge.”

Lu San Ya, “I ate so much I’m full.”

Xiao Si, “There were also snacks.”

Xiao Wu, “I ate a lot, I’m stuffed.”

Lu Ting listened to them casually, but he heard them say they had snacks. “Where did the snacks come from?”

The eldest sister-in-law and his parents woud surely not buy them, and so did Sheng Fei.

Lu Da answered, “Auntie bought them.”

Lu Ting felt strange. It seemed that the sun was rising from the west. He shook his head and then ushered the children to go to bed. He heated up some leftovers for himself and went to his own room.

The next morning, Sheng Fei woke up promptly at five o’clock.

After doing some warm-up exercises in the courtyard, she went to wash her face. Around six o’clock, Lu Ting and the other children started coming out one after another. That’s when they heard a commotion from the house next door place.

“Ah, there are spiders! Where did these spiders come from?!”

“The pigs, our pigs have escaped! Was it Second Brother who forgot to close the gate again?”

“What’s going on, the chickens and ducks have all run away too. Quick, close the fence doors and round them all up!”
