Chapter 33: A Bath Can Cure All Fatigue
***
The prestigious Grendel family’s bathing pool was naturally of the highest grade.
Golden pillars, warm-toned shell-shaped wall lamps, noble and luxurious marble floors, all shrouded in warm and humid mist, like a dream.
In the center of the bathroom, solemn and dignified brown tiles encircled an enormous circular pool.
How large was it? It felt like one could swim in it directly. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it a swimming pool or an oversized natural hot spring pool.
Such a luxurious bath pool, at this moment, was being enjoyed by only one young lady.
“…Bubble bubble bubble…”
Claire submerged everything below her nostrils in the warm water, blowing out a string of happy little bubbles.
This is incredible, I’m going to melt…
This feeling of being completely embraced by the water…
This, this feeling of floating alongside rose petals…
And this feeling of every strand of hair freely spreading out in the water, freely breathing, freely relaxing, as if returning to mother’s womb…
So warm…
Those who haven’t experienced a hot spring bath wouldn’t understand…
Mmm, this is wonderful.
Noble life, finally it’s my turn to experience this life of extravagance and pleasure!
If it weren’t for the stake waiting for me in the future, I’d really want to live like this carefreely forever…
The system helpfully reminded her at this moment:『That won’t do, host. You can’t remain this idle.』
“I know… I know my limits…”
Claire happily lifted her head, raised one arm, and squinted her eyes to shield them from the warm, intense light above.
The warm water transformed into crystal-clear droplets, falling one by one from her fingertips.
Sliding across her exposed, pristine skin, past her smooth round shoulders, and the soft secrets of her chest, carrying the fragrance of roses all the way, floating lightly back to the water’s surface.
Claire cupped some hot spring water and gently poured it over herself, sighing contentedly.
Earlier, Anna had led a group of maids, some carrying warm milk wine, some carrying various types of soap and different kinds of flower petals, while others were responsible for towels and bathrobes, asking Claire what texture she preferred, with options of cotton, silk, or damask.
They wanted to help her change clothes, help her apply soap, help her scoop water for bathing…
It was completely unnecessary, and so noisy!
Taking a bath should be done alone quietly to truly relax!
Claire had to throw a small tantrum before the maids would leave everything behind and go about their business.
Although she knew Anna had been her personal maid since childhood, Claire still felt this wasn’t right!
They weren’t that kind of relationship…
Even as a young lady, it was necessary to maintain distance and protect one’s privacy.
It’s just taking a bath, why would she need others to help wash?
Splash splash splash, splash splash splash.
The never-ending sound of water, maintained at a constant temperature by magic stones in the pool.
Along with the dreamlike mist that lingered throughout the spacious bathroom, and the fragrances of milk, honey, and roses.
Making one feel as if in a dream.
“…Mmm.”
Seems like, without realizing…
I’ve been soaking for too long…
Claire felt everything before her eyes seemed to be covered in a warm, fuzzy halo.
She gathered her wet hair, held onto the handrail, and slowly stood up from the bath.
Where was the bathrobe placed…
“…Eh?”
At this moment, Claire’s mist-blurred vision seemed to catch sight of someone.
She rubbed her eyes but still couldn’t see clearly, and her whole body felt somewhat weak and limp, her mind also a bit dizzy from over-relaxation.
Long hair, long dress… also here to take a bath?
How can you take a bath without undressing?
Without undressing, how can you take a bath…
Could it be that the maids have returned?
Claire murmured hazily: “Anna, didn’t I tell you not to come?”
“…Well, since you’re here anyway. Quick, help me find my towel and bathrobe, I’m, I’m a bit dizzy from the bath.”
Just as she finished speaking, her legs suddenly went weak, and she sat back down in the warm water.
“Ah…”
Claire blinked in confusion.
She looked down at her golden hair once again spreading out in the water like seaweed.
She immediately pouted slightly with dismay, saying softly: “I just wrung my hair dry…”
Three meters away from the pool, Lavendia stood silently, like a newly completed sculpture.
She wished she hadn’t seen anything, but unfortunately, her eyesight was too good, and she saw everything, both what she should and shouldn’t have seen.
At this moment, she truly didn’t know whether to advance or retreat.
She had only heard the sound of water and wanted to check if Claire was still there before changing and taking a bath herself.
Who knew that as soon as she entered, she would catch Claire rising from the water?
She didn’t even think to cover herself, not even with a towel or her arms…!
The young lady’s delicate white skin, her lovely waist, the curves of her body, and her golden hair, strand by strand sticking to her beautiful shoulder blades…
Lavendia, caught off guard, saw everything clearly.
She even saw a rose petal stuck to Claire’s shoulder with water droplets.
That touch of red, against the backdrop of milky white mist and the young lady’s fair skin, was so striking.
Like a soul-stirring fairy whispering: “Come remove it…”
Just like at breakfast, when Claire had that crystal-clear strawberry jam at the corner of her lips. No matter how much she resisted, she wanted to use a napkin to firmly wipe across her tender lips, to clean her thoroughly.
Lavendia felt that even after an afternoon of intense physical training, her heart had never beaten this fast.
She had finished that glass of salt water, so why did she feel so parched at this moment?
She hadn’t even entered the pool to start bathing, so why did she feel so hot already?
It was just like an unfortunate sailor on a stormy night, unexpectedly facing a siren who specialized in bewitching travelers…
…Calm down, Lavendia.
Lavendia took a deep breath, tightly clenched her fists, feeling her nails dig into her palms.
This is nothing…
We’re both women, this is nothing, Lavendia. Why are you so easily shaken by her?
“Anna, the towel — hurry up…”
Claire soaking in the water, her voice dragging long, soft and tender, as if steeped in sweet honey water.
With this call, Lavendia felt everything about herself was somehow off.
This fool had made herself dizzy from the bath.
She couldn’t even recognize who the person was?
…Well, just find her towel and get her out quickly.
This young lady is really too foolish, too unguarded, and who knows why there isn’t anyone attending to her while she bathes.
“Bang!”
Lavendia heavily placed the suitcase containing her dress on the dry shelf by the bathroom door.
“Wah…”
Claire was about to sink back into the water to blow bubbles but was startled by this sound.
She grabbed her wet hair and poked out her little head. Her warm orange eyes were wide and round, glistening with warm, translucent moisture, like a naive and vulnerable, unaware of her own allure, innocent little creature.
“…What happened… is everything alright?”
She cautiously asked: “…Anna?”
Lavendia fell silent.
She suddenly realized she was angry.
But what exactly she was angry about, she didn’t understand herself.
