Chapter 24: Noble Young Lady’s Training Starts from Standing Posture
***
Claire and Lavendia fell silent.
This was the first time Lavendia had heard such words. She was slightly stunned, her feelings complicated, not knowing how to evaluate this strange teacher.
Meanwhile, Claire was thinking about something else.
— Should I report this to father?
Just tell him this teacher is inexplicably weird, has poor conduct, doesn’t teach properly, and so on…
Would Lavendia back me up? Would father possibly replace her?
If she could be replaced, wouldn’t that eliminate the risk of “her possibly discovering the system’s existence”…?
Claire anxiously fidgeted with her fingers, frowning.
But the problem was that such a change might have too great an impact on the subsequent plot.
In the game, Aurora did serve as Lavendia’s etiquette teacher, taking just one week to completely transform her.
After Aurora’s special training, Lavendia not only developed a more noble and elegant temperament, becoming more like a young lady from a noble family that even Claire couldn’t find fault with, she could only hate it and curse her with voodoo dolls in private…
She even learned to dance from scratch.
At that important banquet a week later, Lavendia was deliberately challenged by Claire’s followers, who pushed her to dance the opening waltz.
At that time, all the young lords and ladies present were from noble families of distinguished status. Everyone was convinced that this girl from the slums, let alone attending a noble ball, probably had never even seen such dances before, and would surely make a terrible fool of herself.
So they all watched with cold eyes, mockingly ridiculing Lavendia, waiting to see her embarrass herself.
But Lavendia showed no timidity, calmly and naturally went on stage, dancing with stunning brilliance, graceful and otherworldly, amazing everyone present.
This dance directly made the protagonist of the banquet, the youngest son of the knight family Aldrich who had just come of age — Perin Aldrich, fall in love with Lavendia at first sight.
This person was one of the male leads that Lavendia could choose in the game, and seemed to be the original Claire’s childhood friend.
This grand noble banquet that drew everyone’s attention was Perin’s coming-of-age ceremony.
In the original game, Claire was punished by her father and couldn’t attend the banquet, letting Lavendia attend in her place. Then Lavendia made a grand impression, making all the nobles remember her name.
Moreover, she earned Perin’s admiration and formed a connection with this future Imperial Knight…
Looking at it this way, this etiquette class was quite important.
Oh, important in terms of breaking the original Claire’s defenses.
As for Lavendia herself, she seemed to have no interest in Perin at all.
But from the perspective of advancing the plot as required by the system, it probably wasn’t possible to replace this etiquette teacher, damn it…
“Ahem, oh my, how improper of me.”
“After all, having lived for so long, watching beautiful girls together is my only hobby, fufufufu…”
Aurora’s fingers, wrapped in lace gloves, covered her lips as she let out a series of delicate laughs, interrupting Claire’s anxious thoughts.
What a strange laugh!
Claire leaned against Lavendia, feeling a sense of helpless weakness wash over her.
The system had obviously also realized this vampire was somewhat dangerous.
She seemed to be able to vaguely hear Claire’s thoughts, or sense the system’s existence.
So the system had stopped talking since earlier.
However, not talking didn’t mean the original plot would stop progressing.
It had turned on mute mode for itself, giving Claire mission instructions through subtitles.
『Subtitle: Host, keep going, you don’t need to answer me!』
『Subtitle: Our communications will self-destruct after reading!』
『Subtitle: I feel this character might just have some special mind-reading abilities, not necessarily a high-level existence… but just in case, let’s communicate like this for now!』
『Subtitle: Let’s carefully advance the mission without defying her—(marked in red) Make Lavendia lose face!』
『Subtitle: Oh right, about not being able to see the favorability rating, I’ll ask headquarters, don’t worry host!』
Her head was buzzing.
Holding back from replying to it, and trying to minimize complaints in her mind, it was really exhausting.
Claire was both cowardly and uneasy, feeling terribly uncomfortable from holding everything in.
The system was like this, just casually issuing missions was fine for it, but weak and helpless Claire had so much more to consider.
“Hmph—”
At this moment, Aurora stood up, and as she rose, she put the glasses that had been pinned to her chest back on.
It was a pair of rigid black-framed glasses, with lenses as thick as bottle bottoms and all foggy, hiding her heart-shaped pink pupils.
That aura that was both vampire-like and succubus-like magically diminished considerably.
Instead, there was a serious and proper feeling, like she was about to get down to business.
Combined with her black stockings, strapless corset dress, and elegant lace-trimmed ceremonial hat, she looked like a…
Um.
Claire peeked at her, struggling to find an appropriate comparison.
Like a class representative character trying out Gothic cosplay.
Oh, and the well-endowed type at that.
The vampire class representative (?) pushed up her glasses, and even her voice became somewhat more serious.
“Well then, since I’ve received the tuition, let’s return to the main topic.”
“For today’s lesson, let’s start by practicing standing posture.”
She stood up from the sofa and somehow produced several books from nowhere.
Walking gracefully to the center of the room, she handed a stack each to Lavendia and Claire.
Claire blinked her eyes, confused as she accepted them.
There were three books in total, with hard and heavy spines, gold-embossed cursive English on the covers, covered in a thin layer of dust.
“Are we supposed to read these…?”
Claire blinked in confusion.
Wasn’t this an etiquette class?
“No, Claire-tan.”
Aurora produced several more books, stacking them to twice the thickness of what Claire held.
She took off her lace ceremonial hat, casually placing it on the sofa armrest, then put these heavy books on top of her head.
“Like this, follow my lead.”
“To encourage each other, please maintain your back-to-back positions?”
Though Claire and Lavendia didn’t understand, they still cooperated with her, standing back-to-back and similarly placing the books on their heads.
So, so heavy.
It felt like their chins and necks were under such great pressure…
“Feel the weight of the books, don’t lower your head, but overcome it on this foundation.”
Aurora calmly said: “Like a bird, raise your chin, tuck in your abdomen, calmly adjust your breathing, look forward.”
“Legs must be proper, straight, and together. Chest forward, but not too forward.”
“Maintain balance, very good. Just like this—”
With the thick books balanced on her head, under Claire’s gaze, she walked forward a distance with elegant and light steps.
Then she turned around and also walked a segment in front of Lavendia.
Chin elegantly raised, like a swan on a lake.
She even twirled in place, picked up her skirt, and performed an extremely graceful curtsy.
Those books stayed steadily on top of her head, as if weightless, not moving an inch.
“Walking and curtsying are content we’ll learn in later lessons.”
Aurora chuckled lightly: “Hold on, you can take a break after three minutes.”
Claire imitated her, chest out and abdomen in, trying hard to maintain balance.
This was very difficult, not only did the books feel increasingly heavy, but she felt like they would immediately fall to the ground if her neck moved even slightly.
And Lavendia’s long hair was making her back itchy!
And at a time like this, the system still had to flash red subtitles before her eyes:
『Remember to do bad things, make her drop the books to the ground—!』
Ah, her neck was so tired.
Her heart was tired too.
It was too hard, every day of this transmigrated life was too hard…
Were there any other transmigrators more miserable than me…
Seeing the two young ladies cooperating to begin practice, Aurora seemed to be in a good mood.
She pushed her glasses and leisurely returned to sit on the sofa, somehow conjuring herself a cup of red tea, lowering her gaze to take a sip.
Still balancing that stack of books on her head.
Claire withdrew her gaze, feeling like crying.
They still hadn’t fallen… She really wasn’t using magic to maintain them? Really?
She, she, she actually really knows how…
She’s actually really a proper etiquette teacher!
