Chapter 23: About to Lose Composure
***
Aurora sat on the sofa, leisurely crossing her legs.
Black stockings wrapped around her full thighs and elegant calves, exuding a mature and alluring charm.
She clapped her hands lightly and said in a sweet voice: “Alright, Your Highnesses, please come to the center of the room~”
Rather than a teacher, she looked more like a movie star, or simply a director supervising a film set.
Lavendia frowned but temporarily suppressed her doubts and walked two steps forward.
Then, she stopped.
She turned back to look at the source of resistance. It was Claire who had gently grabbed the hem of her clothes from behind.
Her pink fingertips were slender and soft, showing white from the force, and still trembling slightly.
Lavendia raised an eyebrow slightly, somewhat confused.
She lowered her voice and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Eh?”
Claire was startled, her eyes showing some bewilderment as she blankly raised her head and met Lavendia’s gaze.
In the dim light, one could vaguely discern a hint of nervousness and panic in her expression.
She had one hand curled against her chest and the other grabbing Lavendia’s hem, her whole body tense.
Was she afraid?
Afraid of the dark, or afraid of the third person in the room…?
Claire met Lavendia’s gaze for a second or two, then looked at her own hand that had reached out without permission, as if startled by her own action, and quickly let go.
That moment of fragility and fear vanished instantly, and the trembling in her voice gradually became indistinguishable.
She put on a proud smile that seemed to conceal something—
“Nothing’s wrong!”
“Sister Lavendia, could it be that you’ve been in the slums too long and become afraid of the dark!”
“Hurry up and follow me!”
Claire cleared her throat and adjusted her composure.
She held her head high like a dressed-up little peacock, walking to the center of the room with her high-heeled boots making clicking sounds.
Lavendia didn’t say anything.
She adjusted her dress and slowly walked over, standing beside her.
“Very good, very good~”
“Let’s start our lesson.”
Teacher Aurora smiled and clapped once, and a spotlight lit up in response.
A brilliant golden beam of light suddenly shone on the center of the room, illuminating every detail of the two figures.
Lavendia squinted slightly, adjusting to the sudden change in lighting.
She hated dark environments.
Because her 18 years of life experience told her that darkness only harbored shady deals, crawling insects, or bottomless hostility…
Evil always needed the night as cover; nothing good ever happened openly in darkness.
If there was anything that made her more uncomfortable than a dark environment…
It might be carrying the only light source while walking in darkness.
When everything around was pitch black, and only you were brightly lit, unable to blend in or hide your form…
It was very dangerous.
Either you would attract clingy moths pursuing the light, or you would be resented by the night itself, which would plot how to stab you in the back from places you couldn’t see.
Was this unsettling atmosphere really appropriate for learning aristocratic etiquette in the Grendel mansion?
Could it be that aristocratic etiquette was about stabbing each other in the night?
Lavendia smiled self-mockingly.
…Ha.
How could that be.
Perhaps the Grand Duke went to such lengths precisely to cure her of such thoughts.
Although thinking that way might be a bit too narcissistic.
Besides, leaving herself aside, at least Claire was here.
Even if just to ensure Claire’s safety, this etiquette teacher surely couldn’t be a bad person.
Moreover, the Grendel mansion was protected by an extremely high-security magic barrier, and Lady Sophia was guarding the door outside.
Even though vampires were a very suspicious race that even she had heard of, they probably wouldn’t do anything inappropriate.
As long as they were in the mansion, they were absolutely safe.
Claire should know this better than anyone, what was she afraid of just now?
Well, never mind.
She looked much cuter when scared than when speaking rudely.
The two stood still, and Aurora narrowed her eyes to appreciate them for a moment, nodding with great satisfaction.
“Mm~ Not bad, not bad!”
She covered her mouth and smiled, the pink hearts in her eyes seeming to glow even more fluorescent as she praised generously:
“You’re both such stunningly beautiful young ladies!”
“But Lavendia-chan… your name is so long and difficult to pronounce, can I call you Dia? Don’t be so tense, you look scary? I won’t eat you~”
“Would you two please stand back to back, let me see the height difference—”
Lavendia frowned slightly, she disliked such inexplicable nicknames.
But Aurora spoke so quickly, seemingly leaving no room for response, which was even more annoying.
The feeling of exposing one’s back to an enemy was particularly unpleasant, and Claire clearly felt the same way.
Neither of them moved for a moment.
Aurora produced a pink-covered notebook from somewhere and held it to her chest, rapidly recording something.
“Don’t be nervous, relax~ It’s just collecting your information needed for the first lesson.”
She said with a smile:
“After all, I’ll likely be involved in designing your evening gowns for both of you, so I need to consider how to design them to look best?”
“They need to be individually suitable for each of you, while also making you two look harmonious together when standing side by side? That’s what we aristocrats are particular about.”
Claire snorted lightly, her voice trembling a bit.
“I, I don’t want to look harmonious with her! Teacher, isn’t this an insult to me?”
“Oh my, how could that be?”
Aurora smoothly laughed lightly: “In teacher’s eyes, you two are equally important.”
Although her words were still unforgiving, Claire obediently turned around, leaving her petite back facing Lavendia.
Under the warm light, her smooth back skin looked like jade, flawless, and one could vaguely see tiny, translucent downy hair.
Her golden twin tails hung down softly, brilliant and noble like flowing gold, yet making Lavendia think of a docile and timid lop-eared rabbit.
In the dark environment, for no reason, there seemed to be a feeling of being companions with her.
That was fresh.
So Lavendia also turned around, stepping back slightly to press her back against Claire.
Her shoulder touched Claire’s hair, giving a fluffy, very soft sensation.
Hmm.
It tickled a bit.
But it wasn’t so unpleasant.
The favorability rating above her head fluctuated, increasing by several points.
“Mm, mm, very good~!”
On the other side, Aurora’s voice seemed to carry a kind of frenzied joy.
“Claire-tan, don’t stand on tiptoe when you’re already wearing high heels, spraining your ankle isn’t elegant at all?”
“Looking at this, Lavendia-chan is probably 170cm… Does Claire-tan reach 150cm? Without shoes, you probably don’t even reach that? No matter how hard you try to stretch and stand straight, you won’t grow any taller?”
Claire’s face instantly turned red: “Miss Aurora…!”
“It’s fine, it’s fine, teacher understands! If anything, this height difference is just perfect!”
“When you two stand together like this, oh! It’s just too—”
The vampire clutched the notebook to her chest, held her hand over her heart, took a deep breath, then couldn’t help but exclaim.
— “Too cute!”
“Teacher hasn’t even started the first lesson and teacher is already full, thank you for the feast!”
“…?”
At this point, even Lavendia was about to lose her composure.
Was this person really a proper etiquette teacher?
