- Chapter 2 - A Man’s Knees Should Only Bow to... His Lower Legs
Right now, the situation has become clear. He had already been “killed” by Sang Jingli. There was no changing that…
Uh, or rather… it was a dead-end.
Tang Yu didn’t have time to overthink. Right now, that dumbass Demon Lord and that scumbag protagonist probably both thought he was dead.
Given the circumstances, his only option was…
Playing dead!
He shut his eyes and did his best impression of a corpse, anxiously waiting for them to get through this scene and leave. Once they were gone, he’d make his escape.
By then, everyone in the sect would assume he was dead, and he could take this opportunity to disappear for good. No way was he going back to Tianqing Sword Sect to continue being their pathetic, unloved senior disciple.
Fighting over a man with a bunch of brain-dead bootlickers? Yeah, no thanks.
Sang Jingli’s voice turned cold as he looked at Shi Yunyi. “Come back with me, while I’m still willing to let you.”
Shi Yunyi pressed his lips together, hatred flashing in his eyes. “Not a chance!” With that, he tossed out a teleportation talisman. A flash of blue light brightened the place.
Whoosh!
He was gone.
Tang Yu, who had been peeking through squinted eyes, twitched. Where the hell did that teleportation talisman come from?
[System: You gave it to him!]
??? Who the hell just spoke?
No response. Maybe he was just hearing things…
One of them was gone. Once Sang Jingli left too, he’d be home free~
Tang Yu was already planning his getaway. Since he’d transmigrated into a cultivation novel, might as well treat it like a vacation, right?
Just as he was happily daydreaming about escaping his lame character role, his smile froze, because Sang Jingli was walking toward him, and then he crouched beside him.
Tang Yu held his breath.
What are you looking at? You already slapped me to death! Move along! Go chase after your precious Shi Yunyi before he vanishes for good!
But then, Sang Jingli suddenly reached out and pressed a hand to Tang Yu’s chest. Instant alarm bells rang in Tang Yu’s mind. Shit! Shit! I’m done for!
He’s checking if I’m really dead! If he figures it out, he’ll finish me off for sure!
Without thinking, the moment Sang Jingli’s fingers made contact, Tang Yu slapped his hand away, sprang to his feet, and jumped back to put some distance between them.
He locked eyes with Sang Jingli, knowing full well he didn’t stand a chance in a fight. But he couldn’t just sit here and die, right?!
“You’re alive after all.” Sang Jingli’s lips curled into a smirk.
That slap earlier was supposed to kill him. He had even heard the sound of ribs cracking and felt Tang Yu’s life slipping away. But just now, he had sensed movement.
If he hadn’t been distracted by this annoying bastard, Shi Yunyi wouldn’t have escaped, not even with a teleportation talisman. And yet, looking at Tang Yu now, aside from a bit of blood at the corner of his mouth, he didn’t seem anywhere close to dying.
Something’s off.
Tang Yu could tell that Sang Jingli wasn’t planning to let him go. But he had no way of winning this fight. Am I really gonna die right after coming back to life?! No. No way!
As Sang Jingli approached, Tang Yu’s mind raced. Just as the Demon Lord’s hand reached for his throat, desperation kicked in.
“You can’t kill me! I’m still useful!”
Sang Jingli’s fingers stopped an inch from Tang Yu’s neck. A sharp burst of energy brushed against his skin, leaving behind a thin, bloody cut.
Beads of blood rolled down.
Sweat soaked Tang Yu’s back. His legs trembled, and before he knew it, he had collapsed to his knees. Not that he wanted to kneel, okay?!
But a man’s knees… well… they had lower legs attached. And those lower legs had minds of their own.
He had known Sang Jingli was strong, but he hadn’t realized he was this strong. He had already used spiritual energy to shield himself, yet that casual flick of power still cut his skin. If Sang Jingli hadn’t pulled back just now, his head and body would’ve been going their separate ways.
“You tell me, why should I keep you alive?” Sang Jingli had never actually planned to kill him. Just scare him a little. Shi Yunyi had already escaped, but keeping this guy alive meant he could be used as leverage against the Tianqing Sword Sect.
That self-righteous sect wouldn’t just sit back and watch their senior disciple die at the hands of the Demon Clan.
“I… Uh…” Honestly, Tang Yu had been bullshitting. What use did he have? It’s not like he was some white lotus protagonist… or like he could climb into Sang Jingli’s bed…
Sang Jingli’s smirk deepened, though his eyes remained icy. With a flick of his fingers, he pulled Tang Yu closer using spiritual energy. Up close, Tang Yu finally got a clear look at Sang Jingli’s face.
Holy shit. This dumbass, love-brained Demon Lord is actually really hot.
Draped in flowing black robes, his ink-black hair cascaded down his back, loosely tied with a black-and-gold patterned hair ribbon. His high collar was embroidered with intricate dark gold designs, making his neck look even more pale and slender.
Tang Yu blinked. Damn, his skin is so smooth. No stubble at all?
The wind stirred his robes and hair, adding an almost surreal touch to his already striking presence. Tang Yu completely forgot what excuse he was supposed to come up with.
His mind was just filled with, “He’s so handsome. Is he even human?!”
Sang Jingli’s long, narrow eyes glinted with amusement, his lips curling into a teasing smile as he watched Tang Yu’s dazed reaction.
Not bad. He really does look like the domineering, badass Demon Lord from the novel. Not only was he powerful, but damn, he was good-looking too. Seriously, why didn’t Shi Yunyi like him again?
Tang Yu had never really held a grudge against him. In fact, he kind of sympathized with him, they were both doomed to die for a white lotus male lead. And he had always liked decisive, powerful, and competent supporting characters.
But just as he was spacing out…
CRACK!
“AHHHH!!!” Tang Yu clutched his left arm, face twisted in agony. Sang Jingli had just broken it.
“Tsk~ How long will it take you to heal? A quarter-hour? Half?” Sang Jingli looked down at him, still smirking. “Whether you’re useful or not doesn’t matter. You let Shi Yunyi escape, so you should’ve known what was coming.”
Tang Yu’s face was flushed from pain, his forehead slick with sweat. His eyes burned with anger and frustration.
Of course, he was pissed. Of course, he was frustrated. It wasn’t even me who let Shi Yunyi go, it was the original host! He had barely transmigrated and already suffered a fatal slap and a broken arm. This dumbass love-struck Demon Lord is beyond saving.
What the hell kind of nightmare is this?! Go chase after your precious Shi Yunyi! Beating me up won’t bring him back, you moron!
No wonder Shi Yunyi didn’t like him! And no wonder he got himself killed in the end. Still, for the sake of survival, Tang Yu forced out a smile that was uglier than crying.
“D-Demon Lord, if you’ve cooled down now… how about letting me go?”
“Oh?” Sang Jingli smiled but his eyes were anything but warm.
