- Chapter 19 - How Could He Be Dead?
“What’s your name?” Ye Wuchen looked at the only boy in the group of disciples who was around his age and asked. The waiting process was too dull, having someone to talk to wasn’t bad.
“Tang Yu.” Tang Yu lowered his head, lost in thought.
Ye Wuchen had wanted to chat a bit more. Since they would soon be fellow disciples in the same sect, maybe they could look out for each other.
“I’m Ye Wuchen. I’m here specifically to apprentice under Immortal Lord Qingyin,” Ye Wuchen said excitedly, admiration written all over his face.
“Oh.” Tang Yu didn’t seem interested in this topic, but Ye Wuchen was eager. “Who do you want to be your master? Which elder?”
Tang Yu frowned slightly. “I was… brought back by the sect leader.”
If nothing unexpected happened, he would be the sect leader’s disciple.
“Wow…” Ye Wuchen patted his shoulder. “Tang Yu, you’ve actually met the sect leader.”
Tang Yu seemed deep in thought and casually asked, “Do you want to meet him?” Ye Wuchen shook his head. “I just want to be Immortal Lord Qingyin’s disciple.”
“Why?” Tang Yu asked expressionlessly.
“Because Immortal Lord Qingyin is amazing! I’ve admired him since I was a kid.”
Ye Wuchen lowered his voice and whispered, “Even though the sect leader is Immortal Lord Qinglan, Immortal Lord Qingyin is actually the strongest in the entire sect.”
Tang Yu murmured softly, “The strongest…”
“Besides, Immortal Lord Qingyin doesn’t have any other disciples yet. This is the best time to become his apprentice!” Ye Wuchen was smug. Among the new disciples, none were stronger than him.
“Where does Immortal Lord Qingyin live?” Tang Yu asked quietly.
“At Lingyin Peak, in the Jingyin Hall,” Ye Wuchen replied after thinking for a moment.
Tang Yu pressed his lips together and stayed silent. By the time Fu Qinglan and Fu Qingyin arrived, the other disciples had already been taken away by the elders of their respective peaks.
“Ah Yin, I know you don’t like taking disciples and prefer to be alone. But Lingyin Peak has only ever had you. It’s too lonely. This time, no matter what, you have to take this disciple,” Fu Qinglan said as he looked at Ye Wuchen and Tang Yu.
Tang Yu had been brought back by him from the mountain. The boy was good-looking, and Fu Qinglan couldn’t bear to leave him wandering outside.
“Big Brother, I don’t want to take a disciple.” Fu Qingyin frowned as he looked at the two boys in front of him. He didn’t want to take in a disciple so soon, let alone two kids. Was he supposed to babysit them?
Though he thought this, Fu Qingyin didn’t say it out loud.
“No, you must take him,” Fu Qinglan said firmly, tugging on Fu Qingyin’s sleeve. “Ah Yin, do it for the sake of the sect, if nothing else.”
“So what if I take a disciple? I won’t take care of him. He’ll have to fend for himself.” Fu Qingyin snorted coldly. “Even if that’s the case, are you still willing?”
Fu Qinglan sighed and looked at Ye Wuchen and Tang Yu. “Which one of you is willing to follow Immortal Lord Qingyin?”
Ye Wuchen hesitated for a moment, startled by Fu Qingyin’s words about neglect and survival. But before he could react, Tang Yu had already knelt down first.
“Disciple Tang Yu is willing to apprentice under Immortal Lord Qingyin.”
Ye Wuchen stared blankly at Tang Yu, unable to process it. Wasn’t Tang Yu supposed to be taken in by the sect leader? Why was he—?
“Disciple… Disciple is also willing…” After a brief pause, Ye Wuchen quickly knelt as well.
“One is enough,” Fu Qingyin said coldly, clearly impatient. The more Fu Qinglan pushed him, the more he resisted.
Tang Yu… “Yu’er, follow me back to Lingyin Peak!” With that, Fu Qingyin waved his hand, and he and Tang Yu vanished from the hall.
Fu Qinglan frowned. He had intended to choose Ye Wuchen but didn’t say anything more. “Ye Wuchen, from now on, you are my disciple. Train hard and don’t embarrass me.”
Ye Wuchen lowered his head, his eyes filled with confusion and anger. ‘Tang Yu, that guy, he had stolen his master. He was supposed to be Immortal Lord Qingyin’s disciple. How could this happen?!’
No one knew how much time had passed before Tang Yu appeared before Ye Wuchen again. But he was no longer the same as before. He looked thinner, his long hair covering his face, his entire being seeming drained of energy.
Meanwhile, Ye Wuchen wore the robes of the sect leader’s disciple, and his cultivation had improved.
Seeing Tang Yu again, Ye Wuchen couldn’t suppress his anger. Becoming Immortal Lord Qingyin’s disciple didn’t seem that great after all. Now, as the sect leader’s disciple, he lived better than he had imagined.
But why was he still so mad? If Tang Yu had just told him directly that he wanted to be Immortal Lord Qingyin’s disciple, maybe Ye Wuchen would have accepted it.
After all, being the sect leader’s disciple was prestigious, too. But instead, Tang Yu had stolen it from him in such a way. He had heard that Immortal Lord Qingyin didn’t like Tang Yu at all, neglecting him for a long time before taking in a new disciple.
Ye Wuchen sneered at Tang Yu. “Well, well, isn’t this Immortal Lord Qingyin’s senior disciple?”
Tang Yu didn’t even lift his eyelids, just kept walking.
“What? Ignoring me?” Ye Wuchen mocked. “I heard Immortal Lord Qingyin took in a new disciple and keeps him by his side all the time. He even praised him in front of the other elders, saying he’s obedient and well-behaved.”
Ye Wuchen smirked. “Look at you now. If you had known this would happen, would you have made the same choice? You’d have been better off as the sect leader’s disciple!”
Tang Yu remained silent, letting Ye Wuchen ridicule him as much as he wanted, his head always lowered. Until Ye Wuchen snapped in frustration. “Tang Yu! It’s your own fault that Immortal Lord Qingyin doesn’t like you!”
Tang Yu let out a faint, almost imperceptible chuckle. He looked up at Ye Wuchen, his lips moving slightly. Ye Wuchen didn’t hear him clearly. “What did you say?”
But Tang Yu quickened his pace, leaving in a hurry. Ye Wuchen clenched his fist and punched a nearby rock, leaving a deep dent.
“What a loser!” It felt like punching cotton, no matter what he did, Tang Yu remained the same. This had always been a knot in his heart, one he couldn’t untangle.
Until someone returned from a mission and told him, “Tang Yu is dead.”
‘Ye Wuchen’s heart skipped a beat. Tang Yu… was dead? How could he be dead?’
Now, Tang Yu has returned. And Ye Wuchen still remembered the moment he first heard about Tang Yu’s death. He had considered letting go of the past, even forgiving Tang Yu. But then Tang Yu had the audacity to show up, grinning shamelessly at him!
This annoying guy! He really hadn’t changed at all… Always going against him!
“Martial Nephew Ye… I’ll be taking him back now.” Fu Qingyin’s voice was as cold as ever.
“Hm?” Ye Wuchen snapped out of his thoughts. Mu Xuan had just completed his apprenticeship ceremony. He was supposed to be assigned to Rong Jiuchuan. But somehow, he ended up as Immortal Lord Qingyin’s fourth disciple.
