The four of them quickly arrived in front of the new disciples. As usual, Ye Wuchen explained the sect’s rules to them before assigning them to different elders based on their abilities.

Tang Yu casually scanned the group. Most of them were just kids around ten years old. Besides decent talent, there was nothing particularly special about them.

Bored, he yawned. Some of them had great potential, but to him, they were just NPCs.

Just as he was about to look away, he suddenly locked eyes with a pair of round eyes. The boy was quite cute, with big round eyes and a bit of baby fat on his chin. At that moment, their gazes met, and for a split second, Tang Yu saw a trace of hatred in the boy’s eyes.

‘Wait, why does this kid look familiar?’

But before he could think further, the boy’s expression returned to a clear and innocent look.

‘Something’s off. There’s definitely something wrong with this kid. Where have I seen him before?’

Meanwhile, Ye Wuchen had almost finished assigning everyone, leaving only the boy and two girls.

“Yunyi, in my opinion, we could send these four new disciples to Mr. Rong. You remember, right? Last time, he mentioned needing some disciples to help with herb cultivation.” Ye Wuchen spoke while looking at the four remaining disciples.

Standing side by side, they gave off a strange sense of disharmony compared to the others.

First was a girl so thin and frail that she looked like she’d fall over if the wind blew too hard. Beside her, the second girl was the complete opposite, tall and slender. Then there were two boys. One looked completely ordinary, with nothing remarkable about him. As for the last boy, he had kept his head down the entire time, making it impossible to see his face.

“Hmm, that sounds reasonable. Given their current abilities, they may not be suited for cultivation. Helping Mr. Rong with herb farming might be a good path for them.” Shi Yunyi nodded in agreement.

Ye Wuchen then turned to the four of them and asked, “Would you be willing to assist Mr. Rong with cultivating herbs?”

The four exchanged glances, as if silently communicating with each other. After a moment, they all nodded. Seeing this, Ye Wuchen smiled. “Very well, then it’s decided. Someone will guide you to Mr. Rong later.”

With that, he waved his hand, signaling everyone to disperse. Just as Yunyi was about to agree without hesitation, a voice suddenly cut in.

“Wait a second!”

Everyone turned toward the voice. It was Tang Yu.

Tang Yu knew what he was about to say had no proof, but ignoring potential trouble wasn’t his style. So, after a brief hesitation, he raised his hand and pointed directly at the boy, eyes sharp.

The boy visibly flinched, his body trembling slightly. Then, in the blink of an eye, his face flushed red, spreading from his cheeks to the tips of his ears, turning him into a human tomato.

He looked both shy and timid. After sneaking a quick glance at Tang Yu, he hurriedly lowered his head, but then stole another glance before looking down again like a startled rabbit. After what seemed like forever, he finally mustered the courage to whisper in a voice barely louder than a mosquito.

“I… I’m Mu Xuan… S-senior brother, y-you’re really good-looking.” As soon as he finished speaking, Mu Xuan hung his head even lower, as if he wanted to bury himself in the ground.

Tang Yu’s expression froze.

Are you serious? You really think I wouldn’t recognize you? You didn’t even bother changing your name! And what’s with the compliment? What nonsense is this?! There was no mistake, this kid was that little bodyguard from Sang Jingli’s side!

Back in the iron cage, the lighting had been dim, so he hadn’t gotten a good look at him. But now, as soon as Mu Xuan spoke, Tang Yu instantly recognized his voice.

‘Why was he here? Could he be connected to Sang Jingli?’

A surge of vigilance rose in Tang Yu’s heart. “He can’t stay in Tianqing Sword Sect! I saw him in the Demon Domain before, he’s one of Sang Jingli’s people!”

The moment Tang Yu recognized Mu Xuan, he blurted it out. He recalled the flash of hatred he had seen in Mu Xuan’s eyes earlier, it wasn’t fake.

And now, this kid had shown up in Tianqing Sword Sect? Tang Yu couldn’t help but suspect that he was planted here by Sang Jingli.

Memories surfaced, kneeling before Sang Jingli, swallowing his pride just to survive.

‘No way. There was no way Mu Xuan could stay here. Damn it, that bastard actually sent someone to infiltrate Tianqing Sword Sect. This guy is definitely coming for me!’

“S-senior brother… I’m not from the Demon Clan… I passed the entrance test fair and square…” Mu Xuan looked like he was about to cry.

His large, teary eyes were full of grievance and confusion, his tears threatening to fall at any moment.

Tang Yu frowned, amused. This kid sure knows how to act, huh? But he wasn’t falling for it.

“Quit the act!” Tang Yu sneered. If he hadn’t read the original story, he might’ve been fooled too!

Mu Xuan’s tears finally spilled over as he sobbed, “Did I do something wrong? Why is senior brother treating me like this? I worked so hard to get into Tianqing Sword Sect, and just because of a single sentence, I have to leave? What did I do wrong?”

Watching Mu Xuan’s pitiful performance, Tang Yu chuckled inwardly. This guy was really playing the victim, huh? Too bad for him, Tang Yu wasn’t buying it.

“Drop the act, will you? Even I’m getting secondhand embarrassment. Is Sang Jingli out of men or what? He had to send a baby-faced kid like you?” Tang Yu scoffed.

He knew Mu Xuan was a spy from the Demon Clan. There was no way he was staying in the sect. Tang Yu stared at Mu Xuan, who was now kneeling on the ground, completely immersed in his dramatic performance.

Was this kid addicted to acting or something? Just as he was about to speak, Ye Wuchen’s voice rang out. “Tang Yu! That’s enough!”

Tang Yu glanced at him. “Whether he’s from the Demon Clan or not, a simple check will tell us…”
