- Chapter 14 - Have You Already Given Up on Liking Me?
Tang Yu wanted to leave a good impression on Ling Yan today, one of elegance and integrity, so he even took some time to fix himself up. Calling it “dressing up” might be an exaggeration, but he did have his own sense of aesthetics.
During his recovery, he had already trimmed the bangs that used to cover his eyes. Now, he looked much fresher, countless times better than before. He even felt more confident.
“I’m fine. I just came to see you,” Tang Yu suddenly leaned in closer to Ling Yan.
Startled, Ling Yan quickly took two steps back. “Senior brother, what are you doing?”
Tang Yu sat back down, resting his chin on his hand. “Just curious, why are you wearing a hat?”
Ling Yan hesitated. “I injured my face. It’s nothing serious. It should heal in a few days.”
Tang Yu continued to rest his chin on his hand, smiling as he looked at Ling Yan. As expected, being around him was the most comfortable. After all, Ling Yan wasn’t the protagonist, nor was he the official love interest, not to mention that psycho, Sang Jingli.
Ling Yan clenched his fists. Now, his position with Tang Yu had flipped, his once unpopular senior brother had become a hero, while he himself had turned into a coward who abandoned his junior’s life.
Looking at Tang Yu’s bright smile, Ling Yan noticed that something about him had changed, his demeanor and his aura, it was all different from before. Before he knew it, he found himself staring at Tang Yu’s face, studying his features.
“Junior brother Ling? Junior brother Ling?” Tang Yu called out to him a few times, but he didn’t respond. So, he waved his hand in front of Ling Yan’s face. “What are you thinking about?”
“I…” Ling Yan snapped out of it and touched his burning face. He must be going crazy. He actually thought his senior brother looked… good just now. But he was supposed to like…
“Senior brother, so you were here!” Shi Yunyi’s voice suddenly cut through the room, making both Tang Yu and Ling Yan stiffen.
Tang Yu silently thought, ‘Damn it, why does he always show up like a lingering ghost? How did he even find me here?’
While Ling Yan wondered to himself, ‘Junior brother Shi hasn’t come looking for me in a long time… Why is he here today?’
“Senior brother, I went to your room to find you, but you weren’t there. So, you were here with second senior brother,” Shi Yunyi said, walking up to Tang Yu with a familiar closeness, his eyes burning into him.
“Junior brother, you’re here for…?” Ling Yan quickly stood up as Shi Yunyi entered.
Shi Yunyi merely glanced at him indifferently. “Oh, second senior brother is here too.”
Tang Yu, “…”
‘Dude, isn’t this Ling Yan’s room? How are you talking like this?’
“Senior brother, have you fully recovered? Are you still feeling unwell anywhere? Mr. Rong specifically told you to avoid getting wet, have you been following his advice?” Shi Yunyi spoke as he reached for Tang Yu’s arm to check.
Tang Yu immediately dodged, moving behind Ling Yan.
The way Shi Yunyi was looking at him made him uncomfortable. Maybe it was because Shi Yunyi was the protagonist, while he himself was just a background character. “I’m fine! No need to worry!”
Meanwhile, Ling Yan was completely ignored, unable to get a single word in.
“Senior brother, when do you plan to return? Shall I go with you?” Shi Yunyi persisted.
“Ah, I’ll wait a bit longer. Ling Yan and I still have things to talk about. Right, junior brother Ling?” Tang Yu nudged Ling Yan with his shoulder.
Ling Yan quickly concealed the loneliness in his eyes. “I have nothing else to say. I need to rest. senior brother, please leave.”
Tang Yu forced an awkward laugh. “Ahaha… I see. Then, rest well… hahaha…”
‘Damn, this guy really has no sense of timing!’
With Ling Yan practically kicking them out, Tang Yu had no choice but to leave, unfortunately, with Shi Yunyi right beside him. His mood plummeted. Not only was he kicked out, but now he was stuck with Shi Yunyi.
Seriously, what was this protagonist thinking? Instead of sticking to the master, he was clinging to him all the time. Didn’t he know that whoever got close to him was doomed?
Shi Yunyi, however, seemed to be in a great mood. “Senior brother, if you’re free, would you like to come to my place? I have some things I don’t understand and would like to ask for your guidance.”
Tang Yu turned to look at him, originally planning to refuse. But for some reason, when he met those deep purple eyes, he found himself unable to say no. Before he knew it, he heard himself say, “Sure…”
Shi Yunyi beamed with satisfaction, then reached for Tang Yu’s hand. “Shall I take senior brother there myself?”
Looking at that smile, Tang Yu found it even harder to refuse. “Alright…”
Tang Yu followed Shi Yunyi to his room. It wasn’t until the door shut behind them that he snapped back to reality.
‘Wait, why did he come here? For a moment, his mind was blank. Was he possessed? This was the protagonist! How could he have any improper thoughts?’
“Junior brother, I should probably go back,” Tang Yu stood up. “I just remembered I have something to do.”
“What urgent matter could be so important that it can’t wait?” Shi Yunyi’s smile faded, his tone suddenly cold.
“I… uh…” Tang Yu hesitated. For some reason, Shi Yunyi suddenly felt like a completely different person.
Before he could react, their eyes met, and in an instant, Tang Yu’s mind went blank again.
“Are you going to see Master?” Shi Yunyi asked, holding Tang Yu’s hand and leading him toward the bed. Tang Yu, dazed and confused, sat down as if in a trance. His lips moved, his voice flat and lifeless. “No.”
“Then what are you going to do?” Shi Yunyi’s voice was laced with a strange allure as he knelt on the floor, looking up at Tang Yu, waiting for his answer.
Tang Yu furrowed his brows but didn’t speak. He had only made up an excuse to leave, there wasn’t anything important he needed to do.
“Senior brother, why did you go looking for second senior brother today? Do you like him?” Shi Yunyi changed the question.
“I heard he was injured, so I went to check on him. I… think he’s a good person,” Tang Yu replied hesitantly.
Shi Yunyi stared into Tang Yu’s unfocused eyes and continued. “Senior brother, do you like Master?”
“No.” This time, the answer was firm, without a moment of hesitation.
Hearing this, Shi Yunyi finally smiled. He gently rested his head on Tang Yu’s lap, his arms wrapping around his waist. “Senior brother, do you like me?”
Tang Yu’s body trembled. He felt as if something was clawing its way out of his mind.
“No… I don’t.” He knocked on his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
What was happening to him?
Seeing this, Shi Yunyi quickly stood up and held him tightly, stopping him from hitting himself any further. “Senior brother, I won’t ask anymore…”
Only then did Tang Yu lower his hands, looking at him in confusion. “Junior brother…? What’s wrong with me?”
Shi Yunyi hugged him gently. “It’s okay, senior brother… As long as I love you, that’s enough…”
‘Senior Brother… Have you already decided to give up on liking me? Was it my fault? Was it my coldness that made you tired of me? If I start loving you now, will you look at me the way you used to?’
