- Chapter 13 - Go Away, Go Away!
System: [Host! Your charming and adorable little system, Pao Xiao Hui, is back~]
Tang Yu frowned slightly at the system’s voice, tapping his fingers rhythmically on the teacup. This little system never shows up when it has nothing to gain. What kind of nonsense is it up to this time?
“Didn’t I tell you to scram? Why are you back?” Tang Yu’s irritation hadn’t faded, and his tone wasn’t friendly either.
System (flattering): [Host, don’t be mad! How about I perform a little talent show for you?]
“Go, go, go! Get lost!” Tang Yu wasn’t in the mood for any performances. Right now, he just wanted to complete his mission and go home as soon as possible.
System: [Alright, let’s get to business. After observing you for the past three days since your transmigration, the system has awarded you a title.]
“What title?” Tang Yu raised an eyebrow.
System (clearing its throat): [Congratulations, Host, on receiving the title ‘Survivor.’ This title can be permanently equipped!]
“And what does it do?” Tang Yu asked.
System: [Absolutely nothing.]
“Heh!” Tang Yu had expected as much. He silently cursed in his heart. ‘Useless!’
System: [Aiya, Host, don’t be discouraged! This title may be useless, but you’ll get useful ones in the future. Keep it up!]
The system immediately switched to flattery mode: [You’re the most amazing and good-looking host I’ve ever seen! You’re smart, brave, strong, and—]
“Stop!” Three black lines appeared on Tang Yu’s forehead. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re trying to do…”
System (laughing awkwardly): [Haha, my bad, that was a slip of the tongue! Alright, I’ll be going now. Host, do your best!]
Tang Yu curled his lips. “And this thing calls itself a system? What a joke…”
He sat in his chair, dipped his fingers into the tea, and sighed. The situation wasn’t great. He had transmigrated into a trashy novel as the cannon fodder senior disciple, a hopeless simp. Sure, he had survived death, but now he had offended the Demon Lord. If he tried to cling to the protagonist, he might get targeted by the protagonist’s harem.
His master, the male lead’s official CP, had started to change his opinion of him and even showed some concern, only for his junior brother to come running in and warn him to stay away from their master.
‘Too hard…’
He wanted to die, but honestly, he felt like someone else deserved it more.
Dipping his fingers in tea, he began drawing on the table. Using the remnants of the original owner’s memories and what he remembered from reading the novel.
The current sect leader was Fu Qinglan, known as Immortal Qinglan, who was also Fu Qingyin’s older brother. His grandmaster, Immortal Tianqing, was in seclusion.
Fu Qinglan had only one disciple, Ye Wuchen. Tang Yu didn’t remember much about him from the original novel, but he was probably another one of Shi Yunyi’s harem members.
Fu Qingyin had three disciples. The eldest disciple was him, Tang Yu. The second disciple was Ling Yan, whom he hadn’t met yet but remembered as an honest guy. And the youngest disciple was Shi Yunyi, the protagonist.
Tang Yu tapped the table. The protagonist is dangerous, getting too close could get him caught in crossfire. His master is the male lead’s man, so hugging that thigh was out of the question. His grandmaster is in seclusion, and the sect leader is rarely seen. He isn’t familiar with Ye Wuchen, so befriending him out of nowhere seemed risky.
That left only one option.
Tang Yu circled Ling Yan’s name. “Second junior brother, I know you like Shi Yunyi, but he’s not meant for you. You two have no future. Why not join your senior brother in being miserable together?”
He erased everyone else’s names, leaving only Ling Yan’s, and smiled warmly. In this entire sect, the only person who felt truly safe to be around was him. Tang Yu stared at Ling Yan’s name, his smile growing. It was decided, once he healed, he would make sure to get close to Ling Yan.
Seven days later, for the first two days, Fu Qingyin personally applied medicine to Tang Yu’s wounds, but after Tang Yu strongly insisted, he stopped coming. Shi Yunyi, on the other hand, kept visiting, but Tang Yu refused to see him.
‘Those two… What was wrong with them? Why did they keep showing up?’
Thinking it over, Tang Yu figured it was probably because of his reckless solo rescue mission for Shi Yunyi. His heroic act had redeemed his reputation, which explained their sudden concern.
Previously, Ling Yan and Shi Yunyi had gone out to exterminate some evil spirits. Shi Yunyi was captured by Sang Jingli, while Ling Yan was injured by demon clan disciples. Tang Yu estimated that since he had already recovered, Ling Yan should be about healed too.
So, carrying a few pastries, he headed to Ling Yan’s residence.
After rehearsing a simple greeting and adjusting his robes, he knocked on the door. “Junior brother Ling, are you there?”
There was no response. Tang Yu assumed he wasn’t home and was about to leave when… “Senior brother?” Ling Yan’s voice was weak and surprised.
Tang Yu was a polite and well-mannered young man. If someone didn’t invite him in, he wouldn’t enter, unlike Shi Yunyi and Fu Qingyin, who treated his room like their own.
He had boundaries.
“I heard you were injured, so I came to check on you. May I come in?” Tang Yu asked again. There was a rustling sound from inside before Ling Yan finally replied, “Senior brother, please wait a moment.”
A while later, the door opened, and Ling Yan stood there wearing a wide-brimmed bamboo hat. Upon seeing Tang Yu, he hesitated for a moment, looking a bit reserved before stepping aside. “Thank you, senior brother, for visiting. Please come in.”
Tang Yu was baffled. ‘Why was this guy wearing a hat indoors?’
In the original owner’s memory, Ling Yan looked decent, not exactly delicate, but well-proportioned and dignified.
“You’re still not healed?” Tang Yu was puzzled. He had already recovered, so why hadn’t Ling Yan?
Ling Yan gazed at him, his brows twitching slightly beneath the hat.
‘Since when was senior brother this chatty?’
“Senior Brother, did you need something?” Ling Yan asked cautiously.
He and Tang Yu weren’t close. Despite being fellow disciples under the same master, their personalities were different, so they rarely spoke.
Over the years, he had grown close to Shi Yunyi, while Tang Yu had remained distant, barely interacting with others. Because of this, they had drifted apart to the point where they barely exchanged words.
But this time, when he and Shi Yunyi had gone on their mission, Shi Yunyi was captured, and Ling Yan had managed to escape. After returning to the sect, people’s attitudes toward him had changed. Now, whispers followed him everywhere.
Some said he was a coward who only cared about saving himself. Others called him selfish for abandoning his junior brother. He hadn’t wanted to listen, but those words had still seeped into his heart.
