This Game Is Too Realistic - Chapter 1

How Real is a 100% Realistic Game?

“…How real is a 100% realistic, fully immersive game?”

Earth, a university computer room.

Seeing the group chat message, the first image that came to Ye Wei’s mind was not a game, but white thighs and justice.

To be more specific, it was his Skyrim with over 200 mods installed, and over 100 custom waifu coming to life from his save files.

Any more details would not be appropriate to share, or he might get banned.

His nickname in the group was “Enemy of Maidens, Ten Times a Night”, but since it was too long and inappropriate, the older members of the group just called him “Night Ten”.

“It’s literally real.”

“Visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, taste… everything is the same as the real world. The flow of time in the game world is 1:1 with the real world, with a time difference of about 12 hours. And because the underlying technology involves manipulating dreams, playing the game is equivalent to sleeping.”

The member who typed these two lines had the nickname “Light”.

This straightforward one-word nickname seemed out of place with the group name “Cowboy Club”, so the group’s silly members would occasionally call this old brother “Ultraman”, “Gaia”, or even “Open Brother” or “Awesome”.

Level 8 Gale (admin): “Is this some fantasy game setting? (laughing)”

Long Days Ahead (admin): “And it sounds a bit old, like the virtual reality game settings from early web novels.”

White Steed Passing (group owner): “Haha, you mean wearing a VR helmet? I used to like reading those back in school.”

Enemy of Maidens, Ten Times a Night (admin): “But realistically, this setting doesn’t make sense. Why would the developer make a game just for players to enjoy for free? If it’s truly 100% realistic, how can the dignity of RMB warriors be reflected? Everyone is F2P!”

Ye Wei didn’t read those novels, but he felt that having received nine years of compulsory education made him different from others. He should pursue rationality rather than mere enjoyment.

So he preferred reading fantasy and supernatural stories.

Long Days Ahead: “You’re taking it too seriously, brother. If we’re talking about rationality, wouldn’t it make more sense for the readers outside the novel to enjoy it, rather than having the fictional developer in the novel make money?”

Level 8 Gale: “No nesting stories allowed.”

The topic quickly derailed.

Although the Cowboy Club was a gaming group, they rarely had such serious discussions about games.

Especially a game that didn’t even exist and was purely imaginary.

However, even though the topic has completely deviated, the initiator of this topic, the old brother named “Light”, stubbornly pulling the topic back.

Light: “I’m saying what if.”

Light: “If there really was such a game, would you play it?”

Seeing the group chat, Ye Wei shook his head with a smile.

Did he even need to ask?

Enemy of Maidens, Ten Times a Night: “Of course I would! Why wouldn’t I? A 100% realistic game, gotta try it, you know what I mean. (laughing)”

Level 8 Gale: “+1, but I do have a question about the setting you described. If game time is equivalent to sleep time…wouldn’t it make more sense to apply this technology to work?”

White Steed Passing: “Damn, are you the devil???”

Long Days Ahead: “Then I’ll just stick to regular sleep. (bitter smile)”

Quit Smoking: “You guys are daydreaming in the group instead of sleeping at night.”

“lol.”

More and more people started chiming in the group.

Some didn’t send messages but were still curiously screen-peeking.

In this 200-member gaming group, there were usually only 10 to 20 active members. Occasionally, there would be one or two “they know you but you don’t know them” faces popping up, turns out they had been lurking for over two years.

However, that old brother called Light didn’t seem to care, continuing to indulge in his own world.

“In fact, the company I recently joined is developing a fully immersive virtual reality online game.”

The lively group chat briefly fell silent for a moment.

But soon, a string of messages popped up, as if on cue.

“What the hell?”

“Seriously?!”

“Whoa, that’s awesome brother! I almost believed you. (laughing)”

Ye Wei felt this guy was going too far with the act.

A fully immersive virtual reality online game?

100% realistic?

Yeah, right.

Just as brother Gale said, if such an amazing technology really existed, would they use it for games???

Of course, Ye Wei didn’t agree with directly applying it to office work either. In his imagination, if such an incredible technology existed, it would definitely be used first in the military.

For training special forces, how awesome would that be!

That old brother called “Light” didn’t say anything else, only throwing over a website link.

Ye Wei casually clicked it open, and was surprised to find it was actually a game’s official website.

The website looked poorly made, as if they couldn’t even afford to hire a designer. The bare page had no content, only three lines of bare text.

【100% Realistic Virtual Reality Game – Wasteland OL】

【Current Pre-Registration Count: 0】

【Pre-Register: yes/no】

Ye Wei laughed.

What a guy, with all that build-up, turns out it’s just an Ads.

It’s probably either spam or a scam website.

But the pre-registration count at least seemed realistic, not making up some eight-digit number of players online and claiming even the top streamer was playing.

“Alright, let me see what bull you’re selling.”

He grabbed the mouse and clicked “yes”.

But to his surprise, the expected registration page didn’t pop up. Apart from the pre-registration count changing from 0 to 1, there was no other change.

“This crappy game doesn’t even need an account registration???”

This shady operation left Ye Wei completely baffled. For a moment, he couldn’t tell if this was an advertisement or not.

Could he have been infected with a virus?

But that didn’t seem likely either.

In this day and age, anti-virus software is almost obsolete. What kind of virus could infect you just by clicking “yes” or “no” on a website?

Not to mention, this was in the university computer lab.

Even on his own computer, he wouldn’t be afraid of something like this.

…

【Pre-Registration Count: 11】

Wasteland, Living Room of Shelter 404.

Seeing the number in the website backend on the computer screen, Chu Guang, sitting in the cramped room, let out a sigh of relief and released his grip on the mouse.

“Is this enough?”

His answer came in the form of two lines of text floating before his eyes.

【Mission Complete.】

【Reward: A set of Carbon Nanotube Bulletproof Vest, +5 Merit Points.】

The wall on one side of the room vibrated faintly, and an arched metal door panel opened, revealing a black vest lying on the platform behind the door.

A conveyor belt sent the vest out.

The metal door closed again, and the room returned to its tranquil state.

Chu Guang immediately got up from the computer and picked up the vest.

It was very light, with a texture like silky sleepwear – soft and delicate to the touch. It was hard to imagine this thing could withstand bullet impacts.

【Name: Carbon Nanotube Bulletproof Vest

Description: Effectively absorbs bullet kinetic energy, disperses impact within durability limits, and defends against penetration and slashing to a certain degree.

Durability: 100%】

Rewards obtained from the shelter system would be logged in the item menu, along with product introductions and usage instructions.

Chu Guang immediately took off his top and wore the vest snugly against his body.

It felt a bit chilly at first, but he soon got used to it.

At that moment, the cylindrical metal object in the corner of the room emitted a flat electronic tone.

“Congratulations, Master. It seems you have completed the first mission.”

“Could you not suddenly start talking like that?”

“Understood, Master.”

The trash can-like robot was called Little Seven.

As the assistant manager of Shelter 404, strictly speaking, it didn’t have a name, only an ID number 777.

But Chu Guang found that inconvenient, so he gave it a name.

As for who Chu Guang is and why he is in this Shelter 404, that’s a story that begins on a dark and windy night…
