After the call ended, Jiang Yanguai looked at her phone and suddenly felt the urge to laugh.

She raised her hand and tapped into the WeChat group named #Don’t Speak Unless You Send a Red Envelope#.

Third Brother: Red envelope. “Our little princess is finally showing some ambition.”

Your red envelope has been claimed by Eldest Brother and Second Brother.

Second Brother: Red envelope. “What does that mean?”

Your red envelope has been claimed by Eldest Brother and Third Brother.

Eldest Brother: Red envelope. “Our little sister’s had a breakthrough?”

Your red envelope has been claimed by Second Brother and Third Brother.

Third Brother: “Yeah, she called and said she wants to start an entertainment company.”

Second Brother: “…Third, don’t tell me she’s just doing this to gift another company to Li Tingshen.”

Third Brother: “Doesn’t seem like it. She cursed that scumbag in front of me for ages. Back then, if we so much as said a bad word about him, she’d come at us crying and swinging a knife. =-=!”

Eldest Brother: “Let’s observe her for a while before jumping to conclusions.”

Second Brother: “I’m just afraid that scumbag conned our silly kid again. ε=(ο`*))) sigh.”

Third Brother: “That little bastard better not dare! He tricked me out of a few companies last time, and I still haven’t had the chance to settle that score. I’ve been holding back my fury. But I told the little princess, if her company’s output doesn’t double within a year, I’m taking back that bar in Nancheng.”

Second Brother: “????? Isn’t that bar mine? Third, do you have any shame?!”

Third Brother: “Nope. [evil grin.jpg]”

Second Brother: “…”

#Jiang Yanfei renamed the group to ‘Don’t Speak Unless You’re Dragging That Scumbag Li Down’#

Second Brother & Third Brother: “…”

—

Jiang Yuan got up bright and early. Seeing the smart clock in her room display the time and date, she paused for a moment. After making a few arrangements over the phone, she packed up and headed to the hospital.

Jing Ying was already waiting at a Starbucks.

From afar, Jiang Yuan spotted her in a booth.

Today, Jing Ying had switched up her look. Her long hair was draped behind her back, a few strands falling softly by her cheeks, accentuating her petite, palm-sized face with a refined delicacy. Her lips were pressed together as she looked over the drink menu. Her gaze was cool and unreadable. She had that aloof, hard-to-approach aura.

She wore a simple white T-shirt printed with a cartoon smiley face and light blue cropped ripped jeans. Her slender, clean ankles peeked out above her white sneakers.

Jiang Yuan couldn’t help but marvel. A goddess really was a goddess. The original author had nailed Jing Ying’s description to perfection. Her face and presence were so striking that even in the cheapest outfit, she looked stunning and impossible to ignore.

Jing Ying looked up and saw Jiang Yuan at the entrance. She raised a hand in greeting. Jiang Yuan walked over.

After sitting down, Jing Ying asked, “What would you like to drink? I’ll go order.”

“Ah, anything’s fine. I’m not picky.”

Jiang Yuan answered casually.

Jing Ying was visibly surprised. She gave her a look and smiled. “I thought someone of your status would be quite particular.”

Jiang Yuan paused for a moment before she remembered that she was now the daughter of the richest man. She let out an awkward laugh and said, “Haha, no, not at all. Just pick anything sweet.”

Jing Ying nodded and went to order two drinks. By the time she returned, Jiang Yuan had already prepared the contract.

After Jiang Yuan contacted her third brother the night before, he quickly handled all the project procedures remotely. She followed through with the required steps as the legal representative. With his support, the process was smooth and efficient. Later, Uncle Jiang requested that Jiang Yanfei, the eldest brother, finalize the contract.

Good thing they still made it in time.

“Here’s the contract, Miss Jing. If everything looks fine, feel free to sign it.”

Jing Ying set her drink down, wiped her hands, and took the contract to read carefully. The terms were logically sound and airtight. What surprised her was that the contract was clearly tilted in her favor.

It came with a place to live. A vehicle for daily use. Even wardrobe expenses could be reimbursed.

And each year, the company promised to provide her with a drama role.

…

Each clause she read made it clear. This offer was far better than anything she had seen from any other company.

Jing Ying couldn’t help but grow suspicious. “These terms…”

“Hmm? What’s wrong? Are they not good? If there’s anything you don’t like, I can change it.”

Jiang Yuan quickly put down her drink and leaned in, concerned.

Jing Ying: …

If it weren’t for how clear and sincere the girl’s eyes looked, she would have really started to wonder what her angle was.

“No, it’s just… don’t you think these terms are a bit too generous? No company would ever offer a contract like this to someone with zero fame…”

“Ah, that’s no big deal,” Jiang Yuan waved it off nonchalantly. “I’m sure you’re going to be famous. Maybe the contract seems a little loose now, but in the future, I know I’ll have made a good investment.”

Her wide eyes sparkled as she grinned at Jing Ying.

Sitting across from her, Jing Ying could almost see her own reflection in those eyes.

She froze for a second and asked awkwardly, “Why… are you so sure?”

She never expected Jiang Yuan to give an answer like this, “Because you’re Jing Ying. That’s why I believe in you.”

Because you’re the female lead. You carry the protagonist’s halo. You’re going to save my life.

That’s why I can trust you without reservation. You’re the only one I can trust.

Jing Ying sat stunned by that sentence, unable to return to herself for a long moment.

She finally lifted her pen and signed her name in the lower-right corner of the contract, then handed one copy to Jiang Yuan.

As she saw the flowing and elegant signature, “Jing Ying,” Jiang Yuan’s face brightened with delight.

She quickly extended her hand and said, “Then, Miss Jing, I hope we have a smooth and successful partnership ahead.”

Jing Ying reached out and gently shook it. “Mm. A pleasure to work with you.”

Seeing Jiang Yuan’s wide, unrestrained smile, Jing Ying couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile as well.

At that moment, the affection meter in Jiang Yuan’s mind, which had been stuck at zero for so long, suddenly flickered and jumped to ten.

She smiled so hard her face nearly cramped.

A mechanical voice suddenly echoed in her head:

“Affection values for both protagonists have changed. Please choose one party as the baseline for conversion. A: Jing Ying; B: Li Tingshen.”

Jiang Yuan didn’t hesitate for even a second. She picked Jing Ying.

If she picked Li Tingshen now, wouldn’t she die on the spot?

“Player selection confirmed. Please note: Daily affection values will be converted to life points at 00:00 each night and deposited at 00:00:01 the next day. This message will not be repeated. Wishing the player a pleasant experience.”

Ding.

The blue system panel returned to its normal form.

Jiang Yuan was momentarily stunned, then quickly understood.

This meant that from now on, Li Tingshen’s like or dislike had no effect on her. Only Jing Ying’s affection would matter.

And based on current figures—

With Jing Ying’s affection at ten points, Jiang Yuan could at least survive another day. But if those ten points dropped tomorrow, then the life points she’d receive would shrink drastically.

In other words, she had to maintain Jing Ying’s affection.

Ideally, she could build up enough daily affection to accumulate a life span that could last her a good hundred years.

Thinking of this, Jiang Yuan instantly perked up with renewed energy!

—

After finishing their drinks, Jiang Yuan suggested they head to the dorm so Jing Ying could move in early.

Jing Ying hesitated at first. However, Jiang Yuan encouraged her with a gentle tone. “You’ve already signed the contract. The dorm conditions are excellent, so there’s no need to overthink it. It’s also very close to the hospital, located right on Shuangyuan Road. That will be very convenient for you.”

Jiang Yuan truly lived up to her experience as a high-end jewelry counter attendant. She knew exactly what others wanted and always hit the mark with her words and actions.

Just the fact that the dorm was close to the hospital made it impossible for Jing Ying to say no.

After thinking it over, she nodded.

Jiang Yuan smiled in delight.

The two returned to Jing Ying’s rental unit.

It was a small space, barely thirty square meters, and somehow fit a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. It was cramped to the point of suffocation.

But it was meticulously clean.

Warm yellow curtains made the room feel cozy.

There was still uneaten breakfast on the table.

The floors were spotless.

She even had a little turtle.

What surprised Jiang Yuan the most was the sizable bookshelf beside the bed, filled to the brim with books on acting.

She suddenly realized that in the original novel, the female lead’s path to becoming an entertainment queen had been glossed over. But in reality, behind that title, Jing Ying had worked extremely hard.

No success was ever handed out for free.

There was no such thing as being born lucky. Only those who worked hard and grabbed opportunities became true winners.

For the first time, Jiang Yuan felt that this book’s world was incredibly real. The survival rules here were no different from the real world. Here, too, effort and hard work were essential.

“Let me help you pack.”

Jiang Yuan saw Jing Ying starting to pack. She walked over, and her hand accidentally brushed Jing Ying’s as she reached for the heavy stack of books.

Jing Ying froze. The hand covering hers was more delicate, smaller. It had bright red polish and looked like it belonged in a painting. It was even prettier than her own.

She blinked and let go of the books.

“It’s fine. I can pack myself. These books are heavy.”

“No worries, really. Your hand’s injured, isn’t it? Don’t strain it. Let me handle this. Why don’t you go pack your clothes instead? I’m not comfortable touching your personal items.”

Jiang Yuan scratched her head, a little embarrassed.

Jing Ying pursed her lips, then nodded under her insistence and went to gather her personal clothing.

In the end, books and clothes together barely filled a 21-inch suitcase. The books alone made up most of it.

Jiang Yuan had driven herself today and didn’t bring a driver.

She even picked a regular Volkswagen, nothing showy at all. She would never dare drive one of the family’s luxury cars, and truthfully, she didn’t even know how to operate them.

She used the GPS to guide her to the dorm at Jingyuan Community on Shuangyuan Road.

When they arrived, Jing Ying was shocked.

This community didn’t have apartment buildings. Every single unit was a standalone villa. It was considered top-tier in Nancheng. Each villa was worth at least tens of millions.

She couldn’t help asking, “This is the dorm?”

Jiang Yuan also froze for a moment, then swallowed.

She had been living at a karaoke suite lately and had no idea what properties she actually owned.

She’d only told Uncle Jiang to pick something close to the hospital. She didn’t expect a villa this extravagant.

Holy crap, how much was this thing worth?!

This original host was seriously too rich.

Still!

This kind of place was exactly what a goddess should live in!

A goddess deserved a villa like this!

So Jiang Yuan waved her hand grandly. “Ah, this house isn’t much. Just stay here for now. I’ll get you something even better later.”

Jing Ying: …
