- Chapter 18 - I Want to Possess Her
Skin against skin.
Both of them froze.
Jiang Yuan’s eyes widened. Her long lashes, delicate like a tiny fan, framed her clear gaze as she stared at Jing Ying’s soft, pink earlobe, which was small and exquisitely shaped.
She shifted uncomfortably, but the person on top of her seemed equally frozen. Neither moved.
People around them were starting to notice. Jiang Yuan finally snapped out of it, her face flushing with embarrassment.
She gave Jing Ying a small shove. Jing Ying blinked, then got up.
Jiang Yuan used the nearby pillar to pull herself up. Her cheeks were burning as she offered an awkward apology. “Sorry, Jing Ying. I lost my balance just now. Did you hit anything? Are you hurt? Do you need to see an orthopedic specialist?”
Jing Ying remained silent, lifting her eyes to study the woman in front of her.
She saw nothing but concern on Jiang Yuan’s face. There was no trace of any other emotion.
“Sorry for the kiss just now.”
Jiang Yuan blinked, then touched the corner of her mouth. She smiled and waved it off. “Oh please, it was just the corner of my mouth. No big deal. We’re both girls, right?”
She looked Jing Ying up and down, and to her surprise, discovered that even the goddess-like Jing Ying was blushing. She carefully examined her again, and after confirming there were no injuries, finally let out a breath of relief.
“Good thing you’re okay. I would’ve felt awful if you got hurt.”
Jing Ying seemed a bit uncomfortable. She turned away and muttered, “It was my fault for tickling you.”
Jiang Yuan burst out laughing. “It’s fine. We just fell over in public. A little embarrassing, sure. But Xiao Ying, are you hungry? I’m kind of starving… I really want to go home and eat your cooking.”
She rubbed her belly and spoke pitifully. That apple she ate earlier in the hospital had done nothing to fill her up.
Jing Ying glanced at Jiang Yuan’s pouting face and the way she rubbed her stomach so adorably. The awkwardness she felt melted away. She sighed. “Alright. Let’s go home.”
Jiang Yuan immediately brightened. “Yes!”
Jing Ying watched her bounce down the stairs and let out a long sigh.
They drove home.
The food had long gone cold. Jing Ying reheated the dishes in the kitchen, then brought them out. Jiang Yuan couldn’t wait and began eating immediately. She picked up a piece of steamed fish with her chopsticks and popped it into her mouth. But it was still too hot. She winced and started fanning her mouth in a panic.
Jing Ying, holding a bowl of soup, saw her flailing and quickly poured a glass of cold water for her.
She handed it over and scolded, “Even if it’s not steaming, food from the microwave can still be hot. You cook, how do you not know this?”
Jiang Yuan drank the cold water in big gulps until the pain subsided. Then she blinked and grinned. “I’ve been thinking about your cooking all morning. I was too excited. But seriously, Xiao Ying, your culinary talent is no joke. These dishes are amazing!”
Jing Ying replied calmly, “It’s nothing. I just threw them together. I’m not great at cooking.”
Though she sounded indifferent, the corners of her lips betrayed her pride.
The compliment felt well-earned after a whole morning spent following recipes.
She handed a bowl of soup to Jiang Yuan. “Have some soup.”
“Mm-hmm. I’ll drink it in a bit. This tomato and scrambled eggs dish is delicious. So tangy and sweet. The green beans are good too, and the pork strips go perfectly with rice.”
Jiang Yuan was genuinely hungry. She kept nodding and praising the food as she ate.
Jing Ying sat across from her, resting her chin on her hand, unconsciously watching Jiang Yuan.
Jiang Yuan was beautiful. Stunning, really.
But her face was also endlessly expressive.
She could be adorable, seductive, fierce, or sultry.
She was like a treasure chest, revealing a new facet every time you opened it.
Yet no matter how many sides she revealed, there was always a gentle warmth in her. It felt like a spring breeze drifting through a sunlit balcony, soft and comforting as it brushed across the skin, drawing you in and making you want to stay near.
Before Jiang Yuan, Jing Ying’s life had been steeped in shadow.
But this person had brought light into her world.
And she was not ready to let go of that light.
“Hey, why are you staring at me? Is there something on my face?”
Jiang Yuan looked up mid-bite and saw Jing Ying staring at her intently. She jolted in surprise, concerned that Jing Ying might be annoyed. She immediately checked the affection meter and felt relieved when there was no drop.
She sighed in relief.
“You’re done eating? Not hungry anymore?”
Jing Ying snapped out of her thoughts. She looked away and asked casually.
Jiang Yuan quickly waved her hands. “No more for me. I’m full. You haven’t eaten yet. Aren’t you hungry?”
“I’m not.”
Jing Ying shook her head and stood to clear the table.
Jiang Yuan rushed to help. “You cooked, so I’ll wash the dishes.”
As soon as she touched Jing Ying’s hand, she felt it stiffen. The next moment, Jing Ying quickly pulled away and picked up the dishes, heading to the kitchen.
Jiang Yuan blinked. “???”
Was Jing Ying… avoiding her?
What was going on?
Jing Ying moved briskly to the sink, set down the dishes, and braced herself against the counter. She exhaled slowly.
Then silently cursed herself. She shook off the wandering thoughts and focused on washing the dishes.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuan waited outside. She scrolled on her phone until Jing Ying finally emerged. Jiang Yuan stood and asked, “What was that just now? You looked really troubled at the sink. Is something bothering you?”
In her mind, Jing Ying was always cool and unshakable. In the original story, she was calm under pressure and rarely showed emotion. But just now, she had seemed upset. Even agitated.
Was something wrong?
Was someone bothering her?
Could it be a jealous female character?
Or was the male lead harassing her?
Jiang Yuan thought about it, but none of those scenarios made sense. None of the scum had the chance to make a move yet.
Jing Ying paused at the question. Her expression stiffened. She shook her head. “No.”
Jiang Yuan studied her carefully, but after confirming she was fine, she finally let it go. “If anything’s bothering you, you have to tell me. I’ll help you get through it, no matter what.”
Jing Ying stayed silent.
“Do you have any plans this afternoon? I want to shop for furniture for the new office. Will you come with me?”
Jing Ying almost declined.
She did not want to get too close to Jiang Yuan right now.
But when she looked up, Jiang Yuan was leaning on the table, licking her lips with a hopeful smile. Her eyes sparkled like a clever little fox.
And just like that…
She could not say no.
“No plans.”
“Great!”
Jiang Yuan ran over, wrapped an arm around hers, and beamed. “I was worried you’d be busy. But now that you’re free, you can help me pick things out.”
Jing Ying glanced at the arm around hers, then nodded softly. “Okay.”
