Jiang Yuan followed behind Jing Ying into the house. She had a nagging feeling that ever since they got out of the car, Jing Ying had been in a bad mood. But after mentally going over everything she had said and done, she couldn’t think of a single moment where she might have upset her.

What was going on?

Was it because of Li Tingshen and Shen Mingzhu?

Was it because dinner had been ruined?

Or was it because she saw Li Tingshen and Shen Mingzhu together and got upset?

But that didn’t make sense. Jing Ying had nothing to do with Li Tingshen.

Jiang Yuan was practically scratching her head bald, trying to figure it out. When they walked through the door, she saw Jing Ying head into the kitchen without saying a word and start preparing food.

Jiang Yuan stood there for a second. “You’re hungry?”

Jing Ying shook her head. “I’m not. You are. I heard your stomach growling the whole way back.”

Jiang Yuan: ………………….

Her face flushed red on the spot.

That wasn’t her fault. They hadn’t eaten a single bite before Li Tingshen barged in and kicked over the table. That bastard. She was definitely going to bill him and make him pay. Bleed him dry.

She rubbed the tip of her nose awkwardly.

“It’s not that bad, really. I’m not super hungry. Emmm… just make something simple. I don’t eat much,” she said, leaning against the counter, watching Jing Ying.

Jing Ying nodded.

She pulled out the groceries they had bought earlier, including tomatoes and eggs, and then took out some rice.

Jiang Yuan leaned on the edge of the counter with one hand supporting her chin, silently watching her.

The girl was tall and slender, dressed neatly as always. She wore a red and white plaid apron tied at the waist with a large bow that framed her slim figure perfectly.

Her fair face wore the same faint expression as always, no joy or sorrow. She looked delicate, almost fragile, but Jiang Yuan knew all too well that in the original story, Jing Ying was fiercely strong. She always put her loved ones first. And once those people were harmed, she could unleash terrifying strength.

Her fingers, long and pale like scallion stalks, were rinsing a vibrant red tomato. If you looked closely, you could still see the scrape on the back of her right hand hadn’t fully healed.

She was just a girl in her early twenties, but she always seemed to carry far too much, shouldering too many burdens.

Jiang Yuan let out a quiet sigh.

Just then—

“Hss—”

Jiang Yuan heard a sharp hiss of pain and snapped back to attention. She looked over and saw Jing Ying placing the knife on the cutting board while gripping her left index finger with her right hand. The same pale finger she had just admired was now cut and bleeding.

Jiang Yuan’s heart jumped. She rushed over, grabbed her hand, and held it under running water. “Don’t move.”

She quickly brought the first aid kit, carefully dried the wound, disinfected it, and then placed a bandage over the cut.

She leaned in close as she worked. The light fragrance of her expensive perfume drifted into Jing Ying’s nose, sending a jolt straight to her nerves.

Jing Ying looked down at the woman tending her wound. When she tilted her head slightly, she caught a clear view of the curves beneath Jiang Yuan’s strapless evening dress. Her skin was snowy white, her figure high and full, and her movements made everything gently sway.

“…”

She quickly turned her head away.

A blush rose across her pale cheeks.

Jiang Yuan looked up and noticed the strange expression. “Did I hurt you?”

“No.”

“Oh. That’s good,” Jiang Yuan sighed in relief. She glanced at the bandage on Jing Ying’s finger and smiled. “You’ve been pretty unlucky since meeting me. Always getting hurt. Since you’re injured now, I’ll cook. You go rest.”

Jing Ying paused and gave her a skeptical look. “You can cook?”

“Mhm.”

Jiang Yuan hummed a little tune while rummaging through the fridge. She answered casually, without thinking too much about it.

Sure, she really wanted to eat something cooked by this fairy-like female lead, but with her hand injured, Jiang Yuan didn’t have the heart to insist.

After gathering ingredients and placing them on the cutting board, she turned around and saw Jing Ying staring at her, saying slowly, “Didn’t you say earlier… that you don’t know how to cook?”

“…”

Jiang Yuan froze, swallowed nervously, and pretended to be calm. “Did I… say that?”

“You said it this morning.”

“…”

Well, she couldn’t fake memory loss. She had literally said it that morning.

She paused, then tried to explain. “I mean… I’m not great at it. I only know how to make a few simple dishes. If the housekeeper isn’t around, I can make do and not starve. Right…?”

She sounded guilty.

Jing Ying gave her a suspicious look but eventually nodded and stepped forward, trying to help wash and chop vegetables. Jiang Yuan quickly stopped her.

“Just sit and relax. I’m fast. Dinner will be ready in ten minutes.”

Jing Ying pressed her lips together without speaking and gave a quiet nod.

She looked down at the apron she was still wearing, thought for a moment, then took it off and handed it to Jiang Yuan.

Jiang Yuan was washing vegetables and didn’t take it right away. She bent down slightly and said, “My hands are wet. Can you help me tie it on?”

As she bent down, her cleavage became partly visible, directly in Jing Ying’s line of sight. Her breath caught in her throat.

Stiffly, she nodded and helped Jiang Yuan put on the apron, tying it behind her.

She even tied a neat bow at the back, cinching Jiang Yuan’s waist and accentuating her curves.

From behind, Jiang Yuan’s figure was unbelievable. Full breasts, perky hips, a narrow waist.

Even Jing Ying couldn’t help but want to keep staring.

She returned to the dining room, sat down, and casually flipped through a magazine. But she couldn’t focus. Her eyes kept drifting toward the woman moving around the kitchen.

Jiang Yuan’s movements were smooth and crisp. The sound of her chopping vegetables formed a pleasant rhythm. Watching her cook was unexpectedly enjoyable. Not a drop of oil splashed, not a single spill. Every movement was clean and orderly.

At first, Jing Ying only stole a few glances. But soon, she just stared openly at the woman in the kitchen.

Soon, waves of delicious aroma began wafting from the kitchen.

Jiang Yuan washed her hands, took off the apron, folded it neatly, and brought the food to the table.

One bowl of noodles for each person, and three small side dishes.

Every dish looked beautiful and smelled amazing. The noodles were especially eye-catching. A clear broth served as the base, with the noodles coiled into a perfect circle in the center. Oil droplets shimmered on the surface, a few leafy greens floated on top, and colorful garnishes dotted the bowl. Visually pleasing and mouthwatering.

“There was supposed to be a longevity noodle dish tonight. But since dinner got ruined, I thought I’d make it myself and let you try it.”

Jing Ying paused for a moment, then nodded and picked up her chopsticks.

The noodles were chewy and flavorful. The broth was rich and fragrant. She hadn’t felt hungry before, but after one bite, she couldn’t stop. In the end, she ate the whole bowl.

“Thank you.”

Jiang Yuan waved her hand dismissively. “Oh, come on. What’s there to thank me for? It’s no big deal.”

Her smile lifted at the corners, as if seeing Jing Ying finish her cooking brought her genuine joy. “Actually, no one’s ever eaten my cooking before. Suddenly, it feels kind of nice to have someone to eat with.”

In her past life and this one, she had never had someone to share a meal with.

She always ate alone.

She never imagined she’d end up living with Jing Ying. It actually felt pretty good.

Jing Ying paused at that, looked across at her, and smiled softly. “Then let’s eat together from now on. But next time, I’ll cook. That’s what we agreed. Even if you can cook, it’s my job now.”

Jiang Yuan blushed with embarrassment. Thankfully, it seemed Jing Ying didn’t mind the little lie she told.

Suddenly, the digital panel in her mind flickered.

Jing Ying, Affection Score: 30!

Holy crap!

It jumped twenty points all at once!

Jiang Yuan’s eyes welled up with emotion.

At this level, she and Jing Ying could be considered solid friends, right?

So happy!

…

Meanwhile, the Li household was anything but peaceful.

Shen Mingzhu was sprawled on the sofa, lazily lifting her gaze to Li Tingshen. “What’s with that Jiang Yuan? Ah Shen, didn’t you say she was just a dumb heiress who chased after you like a puppy all day long? Why is she acting like this now? And during the Li Entertainment’s launch, the Jiang Corporation didn’t even attend. Do you realize how damaging that is? If people think the Jiang and Li families aren’t on good terms, given the Jiang family’s influence, your entertainment company won’t stand a chance. How are you supposed to meet my father’s conditions and marry me then?”

Li Tingshen’s face looked terrible as he remained silent under Shen Mingzhu’s relentless stream of questions.

“I have no idea what’s gotten into Jiang Yuan!”

Just hearing her name made his blood boil. She used to cling to him relentlessly. Now she dared to mock him like that?

That damn woman!

“Even if she’s acting crazy for a while, you need to stabilize her! Our cooperation with the Jiang family is crucial. Remember how she once handed you the entire entertainment market in Nancheng? That means she can definitely help you expand internationally.”

Shen Mingzhu stood up and walked over to him. Her soft hands rested around his neck as she pouted sweetly. “Ah Shen, even if you hate her, just play along for now. Please? It’s for our future. I even gave up going abroad for you. Can’t you do this one thing for me?”

She cooed sweetly with a voice full of charm, though deep down her thoughts had already drifted elsewhere.

To that girl she had only glimpsed briefly in the restaurant who looked so much like her, Jing Ying.

Li Tingshen looked at the woman he had loved for over a decade and felt a wave of tenderness, but also a flicker of disappointment. “Mingzhu, you’re really okay with me getting involved with Jiang Yuan? Aren’t you afraid I’ll…”

Before he could finish, a slender finger pressed against his lips.

Shen Mingzhu smiled seductively. “Ah Shen, don’t say things like that. I know you’ll never fall for her. You’ll only ever love me, spoil me. And I’ll only ever belong to you. Everything we’re doing now, every little sacrifice, is all for our future. It’s to get my father’s approval. These small things mean nothing.”

As she spoke, she leaned in, tiptoed, and kissed him. Her hands slowly undid the buttons of his suit jacket.

She murmured sweetly, “Ah Shen, take me to your bedroom.”

Li Tingshen swallowed hard and immediately lifted her into his arms.
