- Chapter 12 - Xie Si has a fiancée? Why didn't anyone tell me?

The two glared at each other fiercely, neither taking another step forward. Xie Tong felt he had encountered a psycho, while Ran Mo, gradually coming to her senses, also felt a bit embarrassed. However, she couldn’t lose momentum! She had made a statement and had to follow through till the end.
After a while, they suddenly heard voices nearby, possibly patrol guards who had noticed the commotion. Without a word, the two of them retreated, exchanging a “we’ll settle this later” look before disappearing into the night.
Ran Mo sprinted back to the Changxin Marquis Manor. When she stormed into the room, Wei Lan was just about to go to sleep. Seeing Ran Mo’s furious expression, Wei Lan couldn’t help but be curious, “Weren’t you going back to check again? How come you are back like this?”
“A man showed up,” Ran Mo slammed her sword onto the table, suddenly shouting, “Ah, I’m so annoyed!”
Wei Lan raised an eyebrow, immediately sensing something was off, “Did he molest you?”
Based on Ran Mo’s character, she would never molest someone else. However, upon hearing this, Ran Mo replied sullenly, “I molested him…”
Seeing Ran Mo’s frustrated expression, Wei Lan couldn’t help but want to laugh. Holding it back, she asked seriously, “What did you do to him?”
Ran Mo mumbled something under her breath. Wei Lan, sitting in her chair with her jade-like hand supporting her head, seemed a bit impatient, “Mumbling like that, are you still a woman?”
“Kissed…” Ran Mo finally said a bit louder. Wei Lan couldn’t hold back her laughter and quickly asked, “Was he good-looking?”
“No… I didn’t see clearly…”
“Ah, never mind, that’s not important,” Wei Lan waved her hand, “Regardless of beauty or ugliness, as a woman, you should have basic manners. Politely acknowledging the other person’s charm is also a form of right etiquette.”
Ran Mo: “…”
She had no desire to continue this conversation with her master.
The heart-to-heart talk between the master and servant ended with Ran Mo refusing to speak further to Wei Lan, so they moved on to discussing some serious matters.
The assassins from tonight were hired with money, from a second-rate assassin sect in the martial world. In this line of work, unless they planned to retire, they would never reveal their client’s information. So, Wei Lan pondered on switching tactics to investigate further.
She dismissed Ran Mo and had a good night’s sleep.
The next morning, even before she got up, Xie Jie was already waiting for her. He truly valued Wei Lan as an ally. Although it was a bit tiring to deal with Wei Lan, he played along to avoid arousing his suspicion.
After observing for a while, Wei Lan concluded that Xie Jie seemed unaware that his family elders were involved in this matter, and Xie Zichen also seemed not to have reported this incident to the Xie family elders. As for the reason, guessed it was because of the Xie family’s strict clan rules. If Xie Zichen reported it, he would have to explain why he was out so late. The clan leader wouldn’t make a big fuss over a mere Shu-born son to investigate assassins, so reporting it would only bring trouble to himself.
After a month of playing along with Xie Jie, she waited until Xie Jie finally came to inform her that it was time to make the move.
“The day after tomorrow is the usual spring hunting event amongst the noble families. Almost everyone will attend. At that time, I will have someone place a poisoned needle in his horse’s shoe. If he gets half-crippled, so be it. If he survives, I will personally lure him to the outskirts of the city, and at that time you can send people disguised as bandits to kidnap him!”
“Bandits?” Wei Lan raised an eyebrow, “You want my private soldiers to pretend to be bandits?”
“Lan brother, please don’t be angry,” Xie Jie saw that Wei Lan seemed to be a bit displeased and quickly approached to appease her. “Disguising as bandits keeps us distanced from the incident. It will be much harder to trace back to us.”
“If we are to pose as bandits, why not wait until he goes to the outskirts?”
“Lan brother doesn’t understand,” Xie Jie explained seriously, “Xie Zichen is very cautious and rarely ever goes to remote places alone. So, finding a good opportunity is very difficult. Only during the spring hunt can we get him to separate from the group on his own accord.”
“Why?” Wei Lan couldn’t resist being a little curious. This brain of Xie Jie could really think so much?
Xie Jie smiled slightly and sighed, “It’s hard for even heroes to resist the temptation of a beauty. Only during the spring hunt is the Wang family’s young lady allowed to go out. If something happens to her, would Xie Zichen not come to her rescue?”
“Wang family’s young lady?” Wei Lan was puzzled. She had never heard of this person. Xie Jie sat cross-legged and poured himself a drink and said, “Wang Wanqing, the fourth daughter of the Wang family, is my fourth brother’s fiancée. You don’t know this, but my fourth brother has a deep affection for her. Once, someone insulted her, and my fourth brother beat that di1 son until his face was covered with blood for which he was whipped twenty times when he returned home.”
- Di: denotes children born of the main/official wife.
Hearing this, Wei Lan was truly shocked.
Xie Zichen has a fiancée! How come no one had told her?!!
Though she, Wei Lan was somewhat of a flirt, she never meddled with someone who was already taken. She was graceful and, more importantly, had morals!
Realizing this, her expression slowly darkened. However, since she had already discussed plans with Xie Zichen, she couldn’t back out now, as it would mean breaking her promise.
It seemed all her efforts were just to help someone else’s man.
But Wei Lan was not one to suffer such a loss silently, and she felt a bit frustrated.
Seeing Wei Lan’s expression, Xie Jie thought his words had achieved the desired effect and so he added more fuel to the fire, “So if you want fourth brother to always be by your side, brother Lan must use some extraordinary measures!”
“I understand.” Wei Lan nodded, suppressing her frustration, and slowly turned her head, “How do you plan to lure Xie Zichen out?”
“Wang Wanqing and my sister are close friends. At that time, I will have my sister take her token and pass it on to Xie Zichen. Then tell him that Wang Wanqing has been kidnapped and raped at the outskirts of the city.”
Wei Lan: “…”
As expected of the trash Xie Jie, he can always come up with such despicable ideas.
“You see, in such a situation, would Xie Zichen let anyone else know? He would surely go alone. Then we can trap the turtle in a jar!”
“Alright.” Wei Lan nodded but then said, “But, after thinking about it, the horse bandits leave obvious traces. My private soldiers can’t convincingly pose as bandits. We still need to get real ones.”
“How can we contact real bandits?” Xie Jie frowned. Wei Lan smiled, “There’s a gang of bandits at Black Wind Mountain outside the city. They specialize in robbing noble children. Write a letter and have someone send it to them, stating the time and place, and mention that the target is the Xie family’s child. Do you think they won’t take the bait?”
“I just have to write…” Xie Jie was puzzled, “Will those people believe it?”
“If you clearly explain the reason, which fisherman wouldn’t want to fish for this kind of profit? Xie Zichen goes out alone, disappears without a trace, and ends up at Black Wind Fortress. When the bandits demand ransom, we’ll specifically have people intercept the messages they send down the mountains to prevent the elders from knowing. After some time, if the Black Wind Fortress felt that he was useless, they would naturally kill him. In that case, Xie Si’s death would have nothing to do with us.”
“Brother Lan…” Xie Jie was stunned, “You… you don’t want fourth brother anymore?”
“A man who has someone else in his heart,” Wei Lan sneered, “What do I need him for? If I can’t have him, I’d rather kill him.”
With that, Wei Lan stood up with a cold face, “I’ll go prepare. If the bandits don’t come, I’ll prepare another group of people and I’ll do it myself!”
As she spoke, she lost her usual smile, her presence becoming more imposing. Xie Jie was startled. By the time he recovered, Wei Lan had already left. Xie Jie let out a sigh of relief.
This temperamental Wei Shizi…is truly terrifying.
