- Chapter 20 - The Little Demon (Part Four)
Jian Tongyao was dumbfounded. Incredible, this beautiful demon snake keeps up with the times and takes both men and women.
Seeing the handsome man beside the great demon reveal a humiliated expression, for a moment she did not know who she should sympathize with more.
Just as she scratched her jaw, preparing to watch a good show, a cold light flashed. The unconscious Qian Wanyu suddenly sprang up. The soft sword that had been tied around her waist like a belt flew through the air in a floral flourish, swiftly reaping several demon lives before returning to Qian Wanyu’s hand with a crisp clang.
The sudden turn of events threw the usually decadent and debauched snake demon’s lair into an uproar, like a pot exploding. Demons scattered, holding their heads. Some little demons, as timid as rabbits, had never seen such a spectacle and transformed into their true forms, trembling under the trees. A deep gash appeared on the great demon’s wrist. If she had been a fraction of a second slower, her snake head would likely have been lost.
Jian Tongyao was glad she had not tried to intercept them halfway. Otherwise, she feared she would have been chopped in two by that beautiful sword. She belatedly remembered that Qian Wanyu was immune to all poisons, so ordinary sleeping drugs could not knock her out. Then…
Oh no, the little white fox.
“You’re quite the actress. I almost fell for your trick.”
The beautiful snake demon, capable of suppressing a horde of little demons, was clearly not lacking in intelligence. After a moment of thought, she quickly figured out the true purpose of Qian Wanyu’s trip.
“Why did you infiltrate my Sheshou Mountain?”
“To enact justice on behalf of heaven.”
Qian Wanyu was, as always, concise and direct. The sword in her hand was even more decisive and sharp, cutting through the air as it closed in on the great demon. The two of them fought back and forth, seemingly evenly matched. The little demons who had not managed to escape in time were quickly used as human shields by the beautiful yet venomous great demon, falling one by one on their path of escape.
“Very good. You’ve disturbed my demon feast. I’m going to turn you into a dried corpse.”
“Try me.”
The beautiful demon snake instantly transformed into a thick, long snake, crimson all over and five or six meters in length. It coiled around in a circle, as if it could truly enclose its entire territory. When its tail swept past the tree Jian Tongyao was hiding in, an immense sense of crisis made the hairs on her body stand on end, if a vine demon even had such things as hairs.
Qian Wanyu did not hold back either. With her sword in one hand and a purple talisman in the other, she stood before the snake’s head. She faced it like a one-woman army, an imposing aura of a thousand soldiers rising behind her, completely unafraid.
But Jian Tongyao was afraid.
The purple talisman automatically floated into mid-air. Before it even ignited, rumbles of thunder already sounded in the sky. She hugged her small head tightly with her leaves, quietly climbed down from the tree, and took off running.
When gods fight, mortals suffer.
She was just a tiny vine demon, she could not handle this kind of commotion. Many little demons fled along with Jian Tongyao. Most of them had been captured and forced to work as servants. This beautiful snake demon really knew how to enjoy life, and her servants were divided into ranks. The best-looking ones were kept by her side to serve her, and when she was in high spirits, she would occasionally have an orgy. Those who were not good-looking but had some strength became her personal guards. Now, under the roar of the thunder, even the guards had fled. Those who were barely passable in looks but weak were forced by the great demon into wrongdoing, abducting many people from the foot of the mountain.
As for a vine demon like Jian Tongyao, who could snap with one bend… she was already outside these ranks.
She scurried away with a whoosh. After getting used to her true form, she could even run faster than a person with two legs. After all, she had… more than two legs. With the help of the terrain, she did not arouse the suspicion of other demons. However, in the midst of this chaos, she noticed a strange person.
Having grown accustomed to a view filled with demons all over the mountains, she was naturally more attentive when she suddenly saw a woman walking upright on two legs. But what was more noteworthy was the direction she was heading, which was opposite to their escape route.
Rumble.
A world-destroying bolt of heavenly thunder struck the spot where the great demon and Qian Wanyu were, its momentum so great it seemed as if it would level the entire mountain.
Jian Tongyao felt the ground tremble. In her mind, two little figures debated between death and starting the next world on hard or hell mode. Amidst her struggle, she had already followed silently.
What is such a beautiful young lady doing running into the deep mountains?
The woman was dressed in ordinary clothes, like something a common person from a small town would wear. However, her face was truly outstanding, and the plain clothes could not hide her extraordinary temperament. When she heard the thunder, she flinched and quickly dodged to the side. Once the aftershock of the thunder passed, she calmly turned into a cave as if nothing had happened.
Nearly every cave in the great demon’s territory was occupied. Little demons like Jian Tongyao and the little white fox, who struggled to survive in the wild, knew this all too well. Occasionally, they would get ganged up on and beaten by other demons over territory disputes… She probed around outside the cave for a while, but in the end, her curiosity won. She shrank down to the size of a palm and pressed herself against the dark wall, blending almost completely with the Boston ivy covering it.
“Ah!”
In the dark and shady cave, a miserable scream suddenly rang out. She quickly crawled along the damp wall and clearly saw, in a dim prison cell, the woman who had just walked in holding up a child. Her hand was clamped around the child’s neck, making it hard for him to breathe. Then, she buried her head in the child’s neck, her throat moving, gulp, gulp… She even let out a comfortable sigh.
Blood-sucking?
These two words flashed through Jian Tongyao’s mind. She then saw the woman lift her head in satisfaction. Her pair of beautiful phoenix eyes had turned into the vertical pupils of a snake, and the traces of blood she had not wiped from the corners of her mouth made her face look exceptionally bewitching. She tossed the child aside like trash. Beside him lay several other people, big and small, all lying motionless on the ground.
A few others huddled in a corner and trembled as their pleas for mercy rose and fell.
The woman seemed not to hear them. Her eyes were filled with the coldness of a beast seeing its prey. She picked them up one by one, bit their necks, and drank their blood. When she had her fill, she tossed them aside, repeating the process over and over. A skinny man tried to resist, but she directly snapped his neck…
Jian Tongyao glanced at her own small arms and legs and watched her ‘meal’ from the side as if in mourning. Snake scales gradually covered her face, neck, and exposed skin, but after she finished drinking one person’s blood, these demonic features all disappeared again.
She was now almost certain that this person was a demon, a demon maintaining the illusion of a human.
With unresolved questions, she quietly retreated. Looking at the devastation outside, she instantly remembered her target character. Finally, Jian Tongyao found her in a pool of blood.
The sword that was beautiful beyond the heavens was stuck in the ground not far from Qian Wanyu, letting out a buzzing sound, as if in mourning. Opposite them was the once arrogant snake demon, her body and head already chopped into several pieces… It looked like the two had gone through a vicious battle.
“Be good, I’m saving her.”
“Don’t chop me, ow.”
Jian Tongyao took tiny steps, shuffling over to the sword to greet it. As expected, the sword flew up with a whoosh. She quickly hugged her small head and curled into a ball. But the expected pain did not come. She cautiously peeked out and saw the sword hovering in front of her, not poking her.
What does that mean!?
Jian Tongyao carefully extended a curled leaf, trying her best to avoid the sharp edge, and pushed the sword aside.
“Move aside a little, I have to save your master first.”
Clang!
The sword moved back an inch. Seeing a chance, Jian Tongyao quickly moved forward an inch. Then, seeing that the sword really understood her, she immediately pushed her luck and got closer. She first checked Qian Wanyu’s pulse and found that her breathing was unstable. Although her pulse was weak, she was at least still alive.
She was so happy she almost danced with joy, but she could not manage to jump. Unknowingly, her little feet had taken root in the pool of blood and were crazily absorbing the blood that had flowed from the snake demon and Qian Wanyu.
Jian Tongyao, “!!!”
I don’t want to drink blood! I don’t want to become a blood-sucking monster! Sob, save me!
The more anxious she was to move, the faster she absorbed the blood. In the blink of an eye, she had absorbed most of the pool of blood. Just as she felt she had become tainted, footsteps approached from a distance, steady and familiar. Each step seemed to land on one’s heart, making one inexplicably nervous.
“Quick, hide quickly.”
“Don’t cause trouble, you hide first.”
Jian Tongyao used almost all her strength. Her leaves stretched to their limit, hastily tying up Qian Wanyu. In one breath, she jumped into the bushes. With the help of the wild grass covering the mountain, she successfully hid herself before the enemy arrived, and even managed to push down the elegant sword that wanted to stick out.
Sure enough, the woman with the familiar footsteps coldly scanned the scene. The great demon was silent, and the blood on the ground had been almost completely absorbed by Jian Tongyao. Besides turning the soil brown, there was nothing left.
Jian Tongyao watched as she plunged her hand into the snake demon’s body. After rummaging for a while, she pulled out a demon core that had lost its luster. The woman swallowed it without hesitation. Afterward, her pupils turned vertical again, and she revealed two inhuman fangs. She bit into the great demon’s corpse, but after just one sip, she spat it out. “Someone beat me to it?”
Jian Tongyao used a leaf to cover Qian Wanyu’s mouth, lightly concealing her breathing. When she was almost out of air, she moved it away a little. At the same time, she did not forget to cover herself. She did not move immediately after the person left. After the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the woman slowly and deliberately returned.
After going through this for most of the day, it was already night by the time Jian Tongyao dragged Qian Wanyu down the mountain. The dark night seemed calm, but it hid even more dangers.
During the day, the great demon’s lair had been stirred up. The little demons who had fled were all in hiding, but there were still other demons who wanted to rule the mountain. When the king is not home, the monkeys reign supreme.
The days to come would likely not be peaceful.
Exhausted, she threw the person onto the prepared pile of hay. Seeing that Qian Wanyu remained unconscious, she remembered how the little white fox had greedily eaten her leaves. After hesitating for a long time, she saw that Qian Wanyu’s high fever had not subsided by nightfall, and she was delirious from the burning heat.
Jian Tongyao finally decided to try a desperate remedy. She painfully plucked a carefully selected leaf, crushed it, and fed half of it to her, smearing the rest on her wounds.
That night, Qian Wanyu’s consciousness drifted in and out. Every time she felt she could not hold on any longer, she would feel a cool touch lightly brushing against her body. It was very comfortable, and she wanted to get closer.
When her consciousness returned, light was already illuminating most of the cave. She squinted her eyes to adjust and saw a plainly dressed woman standing not far away, in a standoff with her sword. She vaguely remembered the person beside her yesterday and asked in a hoarse voice, “Was it you who saved me?”
