The Real Daughter Just Wants to Pilot Mechas - Chapter 175
In the following days, the Federation enjoyed a rare moment of calm. After the corrupt former president was removed from power, a new president took office, someone whose approach was completely different.
On his first day, coordinating with the research institute, he issued a sweeping order to abolish the monopoly on mecha knowledge, opening up access to the manufacturing methods for A-grade and above mechas. He launched wide-ranging public welfare projects, relocating Border Star Systemâs residents affected by industrial pollution to the Central Star System and providing them with subsidies.
He also signed agreements with multiple companies to increase the employment of human workers and improve social welfare. Governance transparency was aggressively promoted under the slogan of a âSunshine Government.â The classification levels on many previously restricted documents were downgraded and information once hidden from the public was gradually revealed.
The public soon realized that yes, the war situation was serious, but nowhere near as dire as they had believed. And alsoâ
The former president and the Jiang family were truly monsters! They poisoned entire populations and then turned around to sell the antidote at exorbitant prices? That was blatant exploitation of labor!
The revelation broke out during the Jiang familyâs trial. The information was first released right at the courthouse. The presiding judge, the jury, and online/offline viewers all erupted. The Jiang family was sentenced to immediate execution. Many of the factory workers attending the trial flipped tables and started swinging punches when they heard the full truth. The court guards tried symbolically to stop them⊠and gave up, casually looking skyward.
Elsewhere, watching the livestream, Jiang Momo, Yan Chang, E Mingjun, Ling Yelin, Wu Yue, and the newly appointed president sat around a campfire roasting lamb.
While the others were cheering on the âMartial Godâ presiding over the court, Jiang Momo alone ignored the screen, calmly rotating the spit over the flames. “Itâs done. You can eat now.” Jiang Momo tore off a strip of meat to taste and then slid the whole roast onto a plate.
The new president was the first to respond. Upon hearing her speak, he immediately returned his gaze and cheerfully grabbed utensils to start portioning the meat.
“We can serve ourselves.” Yan Chang waved him off.
“I washed my hands just now,” the President said, pausing. He glanced around at the group. When he saw Jiang Momo stretch out a hand, he smiled broadly and handed over a lamb leg without hesitation.
For the past month or so, heâd been in an extremely good mood. Truthfully, he hadnât exactly come to power through solid credentials. Even with Yan Changâs full support and his rivals backstabbing each other to his benefit, his initial advantage was few and largely came from the Border Star System. The people in the Central Star System didnât recognize him much.
But ever since Yan Chang introduced him to the group, his popularity had surged. He didnât have many other strengths but he knew how to read people and follow instructions. It was clear to him that while Yan Chang had the most official power, Ling Yelin had the largest commercial empire, and the other guy seemed absurdly capable in his own right, the true leader of the team was Jiang Momo.
As Jiang Momo stuffed and chewed a mouthful of meat, she felt an intense gaze on her and looked up. “What’s wrong?” she questioned, swallowing her bite.
“Want some juice?” the President offered, pushing her drink over.
Yan Chang shot the President a warning glance.
Jiang Momo took the cup and sipped it under the President’s watchful eyes. “Howâs the military holding up recently?” she asked.
“With the new nutrient solutions, combat time and efficiency have improved significantly,” the President replied thoughtfully. “But thereâs a problem, the number of alien beasts isnât right. Itâs been over thirty days and they just keep coming without end. And…”
“And the proportion of energy-type alien beasts is increasing?” Jiang Momo asked.
“Exactly!” The President nodded. “The military has had to reactivate the S-grade mechas. Combined with our new formula nutrient solutions, they can barely hold back the energy-type beasts. After all, S-grade mechas perform far better than B-grade. But the issue is the Military Research Institute purged a huge number of mecha manufacturers. Now weâre running low on people who can build or maintain S-grade mechas. At this rate, weâll run out.”
“Iâve thought about that too.” Jiang Momo pinched the bridge of her nose. “Back when I was teaching, I trained a group of students. I contacted them recently. They can all make S-grade mechas.”
The President paused, glancing around at the silent group before deciding to ask himself,
“But from what I know, a class has only about fifty students. How many of these students are we talking about?”
Jiang Momo: “Ten.”
Those who chose to graduate early didnât learn how to construct S-grade mecha.
âYou should know, even though only a small portion of the military currently uses S-grade mecha, the total number required is still enormous,â the President said, wiping sweat from his forehead.
Jiang Momo nodded. âTrue. But what you may not know is that my students are more qualified as teachers than I am. They teach others far faster than I ever could.â
âThen realistically, how many people will be able to learn to maintain S-grade mecha in the short term?â The President sounded skeptical.
He had never heard of mecha manufacturers being trained quickly. It was probably better to find another way to boost his approval ratings.
Jiang Momo paused for a moment. âAll mecha manufacturers registered at B-grade or above.â
At that, it wasnât the President but Yan Chang who reacted first. âThatâs insane! How is that even possible?!â
âShi Qin already made a name for himself thanks to previous events, so everyone in the Federationâs mecha manufacturing industry knows he can build S-grade mecha. Then thereâs Xiang Jiuming, who youâve jokingly called the âsuccess guruâ with his silver tongue. Add to that the trust we built during the militaryâs previous bulk acquisition of legendary mechas and the optimal assembly-line process of a ten-person team devised for mecha manufacturingâŠ
âDuring this time, weâve already trained nearly a thousand manufacturing and repairing teams. When works properly, their efficiency should be higher than the entire research instituteâs output used to be.â Jiang Momo smiled. âAfter all, theyâre paid based on output, not fixed wages. That kind of motivation makes a difference.â
