Hearing the question, Jiang Momo and E Mingjun exchanged another look.

‘Yan Chang didn’t know?’ Jiang Momo gave E Mingjun a look.

E Mingjun shook his head. ‘Nope, he doesn’t.’

“What kind of silent code are you two using?” Yan Chang leaned his head in between them, looking from side to side.

“Not important,” Jiang Momo said, glancing at E Mingjun as she casually leaned against the swing’s ropes. “Are you planning to run for president?”

“No.” Yan Chang shook his head. “I’m fine staying behind the scenes.”

“Then do we know the person you’ve picked?” E Mingjun asked.

“No, you don’t.” Yan Chang shook his head again. “Anyway, forget that for now. There was another alien beast invasion in the Central Star System today. Was the situation so unusual? Not a single word of it leaked.”

Jiang Momo: “?”

“You didn’t know?!” Yan Chang was stunned when he saw the genuine confusion on Jiang Momo’s face.

The research institute was responsible for detecting alien beast activity and the military handled the cleanup. Given Jiang Momo’s deep connections to both sides, there was no reason she shouldn’t have known.

“Excuse me for a moment.” Jiang Momo turned and left immediately.

“Where are you going?” Yan Chang leaned forward and asked, “You coming back for dinner?”

“Meeting!” Jiang Momo’s figure vanished swiftly into the sky.

By the time Jiang Momo rushed to the research institute, the vice director was already working overtime with a team of detection specialists.

“What’s going on?” Jiang Momo asked as she pushed the door open.

“It’s not looking good. I noticed a few signs earlier, but didn’t have enough data to be certain.” Vice Director Liu stared at the screen, brows tightly knit. “If things are really as I suspect, it’s terrifying.”

“What’s your theory?” Jiang Momo temporarily swallowed her urge to ask why she hadn’t been informed earlier. She crossed her arms and asked.

Vice Director Liu chose her words carefully. “According to the data, across the Federation, the number of energy-type alien beasts that are immune to the effects of legendary mechas is increasing.”

“What does that mean?” Jiang Momo asked.

“We used to think the alien beasts fought purely on instinct, being such powerful creatures. But now it seems they’re capable of adapting rapidly to battlefield changes. There might even be a commander, an intelligent one, who can direct the entire species.” Vice Director Liu visibly shuddered at her own thought.

“If they’re just mobilizing existing alien beasts, that’s one thing. But if their species includes spatial types, there might also be temporal ones. They could be accelerating growth and rapidly maturing masses of alien beasts. It’s not impossible that in the next attack, all of them will be energy-type.”

Jiang Momo scratched her head. “Then have the military switch back to using S-grade mechas.”

“Energy-type alien beasts have a clear suppressive effect on human mental power. As the creator of the expedited legendary mechas, you should know this,” Vice Director Liu said, nearly incoherent with urgency. “We—”

“What if we found a way to eliminate the side effects of legendary mechas?” Jiang Momo said.

Vice Director Liu’s face went blank. “What?”

“What if we discovered a method to remove the side effects?” Jiang Momo repeated.

Vice Director Liu’s expression shifted from disbelief to elation. “That’s amazing! Where’s the production line?”

“Not urgent right now. There’s something else we need to talk about.” Jiang Momo rolled up one sleeve.

Vice Director Liu looked confused. “What is it?”

What could be more important than the production line? From Jiang Momo’s description, it could determine the outcome of the entire war!

“Why is it that I, the director of this research institute, had no idea our detection team discovered alien beast activity?” Jiang Momo stared directly at her.

Vice Director Liu, caught off guard, instinctively looked away. “I handle this area, it’s part of my responsibilities.”

“So that has nothing to do with me? Even if the alien beasts attack the Central Star System, it’s still none of my business as a director?” Jiang Momo’s tone was icy.

Only now did Vice Director Liu truly grasp the problem.

“Apologies, Director. The previous director wasn’t interested in these affairs. Aside from funding, they didn’t get involved, so we never adjusted that workflow. Going forward, we’ll report to you immediately when the alien beasts are detected.”

“Not just that,” Jiang Momo said. “From now on, I want a short message for everything as soon as it happens. If I need more details, I’ll follow up separately.”

“Understood, Director. We’ll report to you right away in the future,” Vice Director Liu quickly promised, then smiled and asked, “So, about that production line
”

Jiang Momo was about to reply when she caught discreet glances from several other detection staff nearby. She changed her tone. “It’s still theoretical, it’s just an idea at this point.”

She still wasn’t sure if the research institute had been fully cleaned out. She couldn’t trust it completely just yet.

Vice Director Liu: “Huh?”

“What’s the situation with this latest invasion?” Jiang Momo glanced at the screen in the room.

“There weren’t too many energy-type alien beasts this time, so the battle wasn’t much different from before. But even the best pilots can’t sustain long combat due to side effects. If something really could eliminate those effects, the battle would be far easier.” Vice Director Liu clearly didn’t believe Jiang Momo would mention it if it were baseless, and tried probing again.

Jiang Momo didn’t respond to that. She just nodded and turned to leave.
