The Real Daughter Just Wants to Pilot Mechas - Chapter 159
Jiang Momo saw the President’s look of absolute confidence and quickly searched the Star Network for a formal-sounding official excuse. She read it out word for word.
“Thank you for your kindness. I know you value talent and I also understand that I may never get such an honor again in the future. But I truly have no ambition for this. A leader as outstanding as you will naturally have a steady stream of young talents willing to serve you.”
The President: …
“Don’t sell yourself short. I truly believe in your potential,” the President urged again.
Jiang Momo frowned slightly, so faintly it was barely noticeable and exited the projection page from a hidden angle to check the vote count.
As expected, she had already climbed to the sixteenth place.
Just as she suspected, the President was pressing her now because he couldn’t suppress the vote numbers much longer. If he didn’t rope her in soon, her rise would become unstoppable.
The President opened his mouth to persuade her again, but Jiang Momo spoke up first, with apparent sincerity, “Mr. President, I haven’t agreed to this deal yet. So please stop the under-the-table voting on my behalf. I won’t acknowledge it. Please stop!”
If she hadn’t looked so genuinely flustered, the President might’ve thought she’d seen through his tricks. He glanced at her biometric data displayed beside the projection. Seeing no spike in her heart rate, he spoke again, “I just wanted to show you my power and sincerity, in case you didn’t trust me.”
“How could I not trust you? It’s because I trust you so much that I can’t agree to this right now. Please give me more time to think it over. I’ll give you an answer before noon tomorrow,” Jiang Momo said hastily.
But the President was more anxious than she was. He glanced at a message from his tech staff and felt a bitter taste of regret, like he’d just smashed his own foot with a rock. Not only was the vote control falling apart, but the long-hidden Population Purge Plan was also starting to attract attention, no longer buried under public discourse.
He let out a cold snort and dropped a threat. “I’ll give you three seconds to decide. If you don’t agree, this cooperation ends here!”
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
The call was cut.
The President silently began counting again, waiting for Jiang Momo to panic and call back.
In his mind, a kid so young was easy to manipulate. A little psychological pressure and they’d lose their judgment in an emotional outburst. As long as she called back, the power would swing firmly to his side.
However, he waited and waited… waited so long that he started to wonder if he’d accidentally blocked Jiang Momo because the call never came.
On the other side, Jiang Momo finally relaxed as the projection vanished. She let out a deep breath and sipped her orange juice slowly.
Floating in front of her was a message just sent by E Mingjun.
[E Mingjun]: I’ll gradually start distancing myself from the President. So if there’s anything I can help with, tell me now.
[Jiang Momo]: Why? Because you think he’s not a good person?
[E Mingjun]: I think he’s stupid in a kind of naive way.
[E Mingjun]: [Message recalled]
[E Mingjun]: The Population Purge Plan won’t just go away because he pretends not to see it. It’s going to bite back hard. I don’t want to get dragged down with him.
[E Mingjun]: [Message recalled]
[E Mingjun]: I already knew he wasn’t a good man but I didn’t expect him to be even dumber than I thought.
[E Mingjun]: [Message recalled]
[Jiang Momo]: Whoa, are you really allowed to say that?
[E Mingjun]: It’s fine. I’m using the Chaos Star System’s network. There’s a time lag before it syncs with the Central Star System’s network. As long as I recall messages in time, no device can detect them.
[Jiang Momo]: You’re in the Chaos Star System right now?
[E Mingjun]: No, I’m just connected to their network. I can share it with you if you want.
[E Mingjun]: [Message recalled]
[Jiang Momo]: No need for now, thanks.
Little Eight’s shielding is already active, and much more reliable than sending and recalling one message at a time. What if she hit delete by mistake instead of recall? Then there’d be no way to recall it at all.
Little Eight had already finished its update while they were chatting and popped up to remind her. [The President is trying to track your location again.]
“Again?” Jiang Momo looked down at Little Eight.
[Yep. He already tried before he even sent the first message. But the privacy settings on Floating Island 2 block all location tracking, so he’s been out of luck.]
Just like how it never managed to see Yan Chang before.
“Then it’s fine,” Jiang Momo said, reassured. “As long as he can’t find me.”
[But Momo, if he can’t find you, he might go after the people you care about,] Little Eight said.
“E Mingjun is still publicly aligned with him for now. Yan Chang is on Floating Island 1. Professor Ge…” Jiang Momo trailed off, her expression suddenly shifting with unease. “Where’s Professor Ge right now?”
[He’s still at the academy for the time being, same as Shi Qin.] Little Eight checked the surveillance before answering.
Jiang Momo sucked in a sharp breath. “I need to strike first. Let’s give the President something to keep him busy.”
[I just downloaded a new program that can slip past keyword detection. Want to turn up the heat on the President?]
The Siamese cat’s tail curled high, eyes gleaming mischievously.
“Let’s do it.”
Human and AI teamed up seamlessly and took another spin around the web. To their surprise, netizens were already covertly posting under-the-radar messages to avoid triggering keyword filters.
The most liked post was [It is said that the oredr of lteters dsoen’t nlcesersaiy afecft rdnaieg cmproehensoin, so is no one else fnidnig this paln susipcious?]
[Well then, looks like I might not even be needed.]
Despite the self-deprecating tone, Little Eight flicked its tail and jumped straight into ‘battle.’
Soon, a new term shot to the top of the Star Network’s trending searches.
[Population Purge Plan].
