Onboard the Jiang family’s spaceship.

After making a big, formal trip to the address Jiang He had dug up, the whole family ended up empty-handed. With no other choice, they began their journey back the same way they came.

“How could no one be living there? I had to work hard to get a single-use pass to that high-level floating island,” Jiang He said grimly while seated at the head of the cabin. “I even sent a friend request to the light brain ID but there’s been no response.”

“There’s still time, no need to rush,” Jiang Xian comforted.

Jiang He slammed his cup down on the table without saying another word.

Elsewhere, in the teacher’s dormitory building.

Jiang Momo looked at a friend request that had suddenly popped up on the high-end light brain Yan Chang once gifted her, utterly puzzled.

“How did someone from the Jiang family find this light brain ID?”

She examined the request carefully and confirmed there was no accompanying message explaining why they wanted to connect. Without hesitation, she deleted the request.

“What a weirdo. Don’t tell me he’s regretting it and trying to get his money back? How can someone be that petty?”

Back then, Yan Chang had given her the new light brain to make things easier and only three people had been added: Yan Chang, E Mingjun, and Ge Qing. No one else should’ve known its number. |10|

Thinking of Yan Chang, Jiang Momo packed up the documents she had just sorted and returned them to the storage box. Then she changed clothes and headed to the hospital.

According to the course schedule, she should have had class today. But all her practical class students had quietly applied for early graduation two days ago and left without a word. None of them had replied to her messages since.

“I should’ve gone to see what that protest was all about when it happened.” Jiang Momo sighed silently as she sat in the shared single-seat air shuttle.

[That’s in the past now, don’t dwell on it. Given your students’ personalities, they wouldn’t give up that easily. They probably have another plan and don’t want to drag you into it,] Little Eight said, poking its head out from the screen.

“I’m worried that’s exactly the case,” Jiang Momo muttered.

That guy Xiang Jiuming was a master manipulator and she knew her students well. They were a proud bunch. Who knows what extreme thing they might do next?

As she spoke, she opened her chat with Li Yu. The last message from him had been from last night.

[Military Research Institute Maintenance Department, Level 6 Technician Li Yu]: Those students of yours who left without a word really did apply to the research institute. They’ll have to wait a few more days for the entrance exam.

Jiang Momo rubbed her light brain as various thoughts flashed rapidly through her mind.

Soon, she arrived at the hospital basement.

When Jiang Momo opened the door to the ward, she saw Yan Yunkui sighing as he drew blood from Yan Chang.

Yan Chang was lying quietly with his hands folded over his abdomen, just like during previous treatments. He seemed a little taller than before and his facial features more defined. His hair had grown quickly and now reached his shoulders, its color dimmer than before, no longer the fiery red it once was, giving him a more composed appearance.

“He’s still not awake?” Jiang Momo approached and nodded slightly toward him.

Yan Yunkui frowned. “No. Judging by the data, it’ll still take a while. His mental power is too chaotic and there’s a risk of backlash. We didn’t foresee this when we first designed the treatment plan.”

“Isn’t there any drug that could help?”

Jiang Momo suddenly thought of something.

Yan Yunkui shook his head. “No. His body is still affected by special substances that haven’t been fully cleared. Any medication might cause unpredictable side effects.”

He paused and then added, “There is one material that might help, but…”

“But you contacted a merchant who recently auctioned it and they told you it’s all gone?” Jiang Momo asked.

Yan Yunkui looked up in shock. “How did you know?”

“Ling Yelin contacted me to buy the material,” Jiang Momo said, now certain of her guess. |11|

Yan Yunkui: “?”

“You’re the supplier?” he exclaimed.

No wonder Yan Chang used to look at Jiang Momo like she was a treasure! She really was a walking goldmine!

“How soon would he wake up if we used that material?” Jiang Momo pressed.

“That depends on how much you have,” Yan Yunkui said, uncertain.

If it were the same size as the one from the auction, about the size of a thumb, then recovery would be quick. But given how rare the material is, having even a sliver left would already be lucky.

“Got it.” Jiang Momo nodded and put a hand on Yan Yunkui’s shoulder. “You can keep this confidential, right?”

“Of course! I won’t tell anyone, I swear.” He mimed zipping his lips shut.

An hour later, Jiang Momo returned at lightning speed and shoved something into Yan Yunkui’s hands. “Use it and give it back when you’re done.”

Yan Yunkui dumbly accepted it.

It was a bundle of light, like energy, wrapped in an amber-like casing the size of a fist and radiated a gentle warmth.

“W-Where did you get this?” Yan Yunkui asked softly.

This much of it? Could it possibly be illegally obtained?

Jiang Momo smacked him on the shoulder. “It’s from legal channels. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t let anything happen to Yan Chang.”

Yan Yunkui felt as if the bundle in his hands weighed a thousand pounds. He looked at Jiang Momo in awe before awkwardly walking over to the still-sleeping Yan Chang and placing the material into the machine near his head.

***

Elsewhere, in the Jiang family’s villa, Jiang He threw his light brain to the ground in fury and shouted, “Now I get it! That contact I hired has no idea who the master actually is! He even said the master lived in the high-rise residential area on the edge of the floating island! Nonsense! Why would the master live in such a shabby place?! Why not just say they live in the academy’s teacher dormitory?!”

E/N: I wish the author put a name on that material instead of calling it keychain this, material that. T.T
