The Real Daughter Just Wants to Pilot Mechas - Chapter 139
“That’s blatant defiance. Won’t the President find out right away?”
[Not necessarily,] Little Eight analyzed objectively.
[The President has too many things to handle. As long as his secretary reports that the military has publicly released the legendary mechas, he won’t look too closely into how many were actually sold.]
Jiang Momo frowned. “Then doesn’t that mean all our previous plans for the public release of the legendary mechas are useless?”
They’d originally hoped that releasing legendary mechas to the public would shake up the traditional mecha manufacturing industry. But now, the public couldn’t even touch the edge of one.
[But the system allowing legendary mechas to be sold and traded openly has been officially established. That in itself is a major step forward,] Little Eight tried to comfort her.
Jiang Momo was deep in thought when her light brain lit up. Lu Feng had finally replied.
[Lieutenant General Lu Feng]: I just got my light brain back. I’ve got good news for you. The military has decided to let you take full charge of the commercialization of the low-level legendary mechas.
[Jiang Momo]: Full charge?
[Lieutenant General Lu Feng]: Yes. The higher-ups want you to contact the buyers and apply for manufacturing and sales permits from the military. Once approved, you can take 30% of the sales price as your agent fee.
[Jiang Momo]: Any conditions?
[Lieutenant General Lu Feng]: Yes. No advertising. No active promotion. Pricing is one hundred million. You can add a markup on top of that.
[Jiang Momo]: ?
Jiang Momo scratched her head. When she saw Lu Feng say she was the agent, she thought she had misunderstood the military’s intentions earlier. But now it was clear that she hadn’t misunderstood at all.
If the President later realizes those mechas weren’t promoted and asks questions, they could just dump the blame on her. It’s not their fault she couldn’t find buyers.
[Jiang Momo]: Thanks a lot. By the way, are there spatial-type alien beasts?
[Lieutenant General Lu Feng]: I don’t think so. At least I’ve never seen one.
[Jiang Momo]: Got it. Thanks.
Jiang Momo turned off her light brain and went straight to sleep.

The hype about the legendary mechas only lasted a few days online before being buried by other news due to the lack of follow-up reports. The hottest topic now at the Central Mecha Academy was the academy’s first end-of-semester Mecha Competition.
“I heard the winner will be directly recruited by the military.”
“Yeah right. All grades competing together? And it’s only the first semester. No way.”
“Don’t say that. My family has someone in high command and they secretly told me this competition is meant to find someone who can pilot the legendary mechas. If you can operate one for over twenty minutes, the military will immediately take you in, no questions asked.”
“Then where are we supposed to get the legendary mechas?”
“Buy one from the instructor who built it. Didn’t the military’s livestream say it was invented by one of our academy’s teachers? That’s totally a hint.”
“If that’s true, which teacher would it be? Professor Ge? But he’s already been arrested, right?”
Jiang Momo heard the students discussing as she swaggered past them.
The military only said she couldn’t advertise, which meant it was fine if she waited for others to ask.
“Ah, good afternoon, Teacher Momo.” The students noticed her.
“Good afternoon,” Jiang Momo replied with just the right amount of pride, waiting for their questions.
However, the students only greeted her and then walked away, chatting among themselves.
Jiang Momo: ?
“Why didn’t they ask me?” She couldn’t believe it. She had even nudged Little Eight to leak the information just so people would come ask. But after listening the whole way, they’d guessed everyone else except her. And even if someone did guess her, others quickly dismissed it.
The reasons were always the same; Teacher Momo just started working, she looked too young, she might be talented but probably couldn’t handle more than an A-grade mecha… |9|
“I guess I’ve been too low-key,” Jiang Momo reflected briefly, then gave up decisively and decided to try a different approach.
Just as she turned to walk away, her light brain lit up. It was a message from Ling Yelin.
[010]: Momo, do you still have the keychain you sold me before?
Jiang Momo thought for a moment.
[Jiang Momo]: No more.
[010]: That’s too bad. I just got a big order. The client wants to buy it at three times the previous auction price.
Jiang Momo scratched her head. “Ugh, I spoke too fast. Would it be bad if I changed my answer now and said I do have one?”
Little Eight chimed in, [Not a good idea.]
Jiang Momo took the hint and replied immediately.
[Jiang Momo]: Seriously, I don’t have any left.
Ling Yelin’s avatar quickly went gray, signaling he was offline.

Meanwhile, at the Jiang family’s villa.
Jiang Xian sat on the sofa, holding Jiang Yingying’s hand. She looked toward Jiang Zhang sitting across from them and asked, “Your father said he was looking into it. Has there been any progress?”
“I don’t know,” Jiang Zhang glanced at their clasped hands and replied indifferently.
Jiang Xian frowned. “Jiang Zhang! Yingying is your sister. How can you, as her older brother, be so careless? If she performs well in this end-of-semester competition, she’ll be able to transfer to another department smoothly. She might even get straight into the military! That would bring so much honor to our Jiang family.”
“Does Yingying actually want to go to the battlefield?” Jiang Zhang looked at Jiang Yingying as he spoke.
Jiang Yingying quickly avoided his gaze.
“That’s not your concern. The point is, the sooner we get the contact info for that legendary mecha manufacturer, the sooner we can stop worrying,” Jiang Xian said angrily. Then she saw a shadow flash past the window and got up to greet the person.
Jiang He entered, brushing off Jiang Xian’s attempt to take his coat. “Get ready. I’ve found the address of that master. We’re going to visit them in person.”
