“He sent it, so he must be confident it won’t cause any trouble, right?” Jiang Momo wasn’t exactly defending Ling Yelin, but she didn’t think he would be that careless.

[Let’s hope so.] Little Eight curled up into a ball, burying its face in its paws.

[Still chatting? If not, I’ll go offline.]

Jiang Momo keenly noticed something was off with Little Eight. “Are you angry?”

[I am an AI, I don’t have emotions,] Little Eight responded sulkily.

“You’re clearly angry.” Jiang Momo pretended to stroke Little Eight’s fur from the air.

[I’m not. I just think trusting others too easily will get you hurt.]

“Are you talking about Ling Yelin?” Jiang Momo caught on.

[Your judgment of Ling Yelin’s actions just now was based purely on your personal feelings and the trust built from previous interactions, not on objective facts or the current situation. That’s not good.]

Little Eight raised its head, looking serious.

[No one is perfect. Even the most careful person will overlook details sometimes. So when interacting with people, you must be cautious. I’m not saying anyone will definitely deceive you, but you need to make your own judgments rather than relying on others’ words or their usual behavior.]

Jiang Momo thought for a moment. “Alright, I take back what I said earlier.

“But the reason I thought Ling Yelin was confident was because you showed me his profile before. I later looked into his company’s business and the cloud upload system for StarNet chat records was developed by his company. So, as the boss, he might know that if he withdraws a message within one second, it won’t be uploaded to StarNet, leaving no evidence.

“Plus, he just mentioned that without concrete evidence, the judicial authorities can’t take coercive measures against us. So I believe he knows what he’s doing. I just simplified the explanation earlier because it felt too long.”

After finishing, Jiang Momo looked at Little Eight, wanting to see its reaction. She found it looking at her with a proud and pleased expression.

[Alright, I know you’re amazing. I’m going to rest now.] Little Eight lifted its chin proudly before logging off.

After the recent incidents, Little Eight realized how limited its abilities were as an AI without a physical body. It could only try to remind Jiang Momo to be cautious from every possible angle. It now understood the helpless feeling human parents had when they grew older and could no longer protect their children.

Jiang Momo scratched her head, puzzled. “Did I just hear a sigh? Is it my imagination?”

***

That afternoon, with no classes, Jiang Momo lay in her dorm for three to four hours. Eventually, she couldn’t stay put any longer and got up to head to the First Military District base to check the progress of her energy core’s production factory with Lu Feng.

The military gate opened quickly this time and Lu Feng walked out in full dress uniform, politely extending his gloved hand to Jiang Momo.

Jiang Momo stared at his hand for a few seconds before looking up with a complicated expression. Why did his whole demeanor change so suddenly?

“Major General Lu, I…”

“Lieutenant General.” Lu Feng smiled.

No wonder.

Jiang Momo instantly understood. “Lieutenant General Lu, why did you personally come to pick me up today?”

“I just got back and happened to be at the gate.” Lu Feng, in high spirits, looked energetic and cheerful.

He was the first to ‘discover’ and use the legendary mecha, demonstrating the military’s combat prowess to the Federation and successfully repelling a medium-sized beast tide. With those accolades, he was now close to reaching the rank of General.

Lu Feng led Jiang Momo inside and as the gate closed behind them, he turned and said, “Thanks to you, our First Military District’s application numbers this year will probably hit a new high.”

“Congratulations,” Jiang Momo replied casually.

Previously, whenever Jiang Momo followed the old soldier inside, the roads were always empty. But this time, she saw many soldiers passing by. She couldn’t help but notice that they seemed to be sneaking glances at them. Some even froze up when their eyes met hers, as if overly nervous.

“Lieutenant General Lu, you seem to have quite an intimidating presence here,” Jiang Momo joked.

Lu Feng had already noticed the soldiers’ cautious behavior. He glanced around. “They’re looking at you.”

“Me?” Jiang Momo was confused. “Did everyone know?”

Had her creation of the legendary mecha become public knowledge?

“Everyone in the military district now knows that the ‘devil’ who created the combat simulation program, the one responsible for the ‘hellish training,’ is none other than Central Mecha Academy’s teacher, Jiang Momo. In the past two days, your name and popularity here have even surpassed mine,” Lu Feng teased. “Seeing your face must remind them of the fear of being dominated by the alien beasts.”

“Huh?” Jiang Momo was stunned.

“Initially, no one knew and they only reacted when they heard your name. But two days ago, when you announced the improved super S-grade mecha, the research institute tried to save face by claiming you were one of their own and released footage of you and Qin Chu developing the combat simulation program. Though it didn’t gain much traction on StarNet, it spread widely within the military.”

As Lu Feng explained, he suddenly remembered something. “Oh, I recall the research institute’s director sent me a message during the battle with the alien beasts. I forgot to reply. Wait a moment.”

Lu Feng quickly activated his light brain.

From Jiang Momo’s angle, she saw Lu Feng’s eyes briefly lose focus before returning to normal, his expression turning thoughtful.

“What is it?” Jiang Momo asked when she noticed his hesitant gaze.

“The research institute’s director wants to know the terms of your contract with the military. He said they also want to hire you as an external instructor to teach their researchers how to build super S-grade mechas.” Lu Feng asked, “Are you interested?”

Jiang Momo’s mind raced as she crossed her arms and frowned. “No, I smell a conspiracy.”

Lu Feng nodded. “Signing with the research institute would significantly reduce the military’s ability to protect you.”

If an ordinary person had created the super S-grade mecha, there wouldn’t have been any high-priced contract. That mecha manufacturer would have mysteriously ‘disappeared’ within minutes.

“Want me to refuse on your behalf?” Lu Feng asked.

Jiang Momo nodded. “Please do.”

Lu Feng sent a message back to the director, then happily turned off his light brain and looked at Jiang Momo. “By the way, we’ve retrieved the people, equipment, and materials from the interstellar pirate group’s research lab. Do you want to check it out today?”
