A rush of heat surged to Jiang Momo’s eyes, making her eyes sting and her throat feel dry and tight. She suddenly coughed twice. “Professor Ge, I…”

“Calm down. I know you’re sentimental but do you understand that impersonation is a very serious crime?” Ge Qing saw Jiang Momo’s eyes instantly turn red and quickly grabbed her arm, trying to calm her down.

Jiang Momo’s breathing was rapid. “This definitely won’t work.”

“It’s not about whether it works or not. This is the reality,” Ge Qing interrupted before she could continue, his tone regretful. “It’s just a pity. It’s rare to have such a smart student.”

Jiang Momo’s mind was in chaos, like a pot of boiling paste churning inside her head, with the heat seeming to seep out through her eyes, making them burn painfully.

“Oh no.” Ge Qing became flustered. “Why are you crying? At most, it’ll be a few years of detention and then I’ll be out. I was about to retire anyway, so just consider it as early retirement.”

Jiang Momo looked at Ge Qing’s forced casualness, unsure of what to say. She choked out, “When you get out, I’ll tell you about that mecha.”

“Alright, I’ll be waiting.” Ge Qing patted her shoulder.

Of course, he understood what Jiang Momo meant. Recently, he has been keeping an eye on public opinion on the Star Network. The internet trolls he had arranged beforehand were obviously the biggest contributor to the demonstrations.

Ge Qing knew Jiang Momo’s goal wasn’t just to manipulate public opinion to reduce Shi Qin’s sentence. They shared the same objective. Perhaps the next time they met, Jiang Momo could openly explain the principles behind manufacturing a super S-grade mecha or even a legendary one.

Jiang Momo received from Ge Qing an unimaginable level of care and attention, something she hadn’t dared to dream of, even in her best visions of life with a family, before coming to the Capital Star.

She took a deep breath, grabbed Ge Qing’s sleeve, and stuffed a piece of ore into his hand. “I brought this from my hometown.”

Feeling something cold in his hand, Ge Qing looked down instinctively and smiled. “What’s so mysterious about this…”

Then, the moment he saw what it was, his smile froze.

It was Golden Crow ore! How did Jiang Momo get such a large piece of rare material?!

Ge Qing instantly felt like the item was burning his hand. He looked at Jiang Momo nervously. “I didn’t say those things to get this from you.”

“I know.” Jiang Momo raised her hand to stop him. “This is just something I wanted to give you. I figured that with your love for mecha, you’d definitely be curious about its upgrade secret.”

“The upgrade is because of this?” Ge Qing gripped the scorching hot object tightly, glancing around cautiously to ensure no one was watching before feeling a bit more at ease.

“It’s not just this but I’m not entirely clear on the exact technique. I guess it involves embedding all the metal neural fibers together after they’re fully assembled?” Jiang Momo scratched her head, sharing her hypothesis.

After all, even the research institute hadn’t developed a super S-grade mecha yet, so her theory remained unverified.

“This is too valuable.” Ge Qing hesitated. “I still have some savings…”

They both knew that the value of the ore wasn’t just in its rarity or cost but in the secret it held, the potential to break the performance limits of S-grade mechas that had remained stagnant for decades.

“Stop talking. Just take it.” Jiang Momo snatched the Golden Crow ore back from his hand and stuffed it into his jacket pocket. “That’s it!”

Before Ge Qing could react, Jiang Momo darted away, disappearing from his sight.

Back at her dorm, Jiang Momo threw herself onto the bed, buried her face in the pillow, and began to sob. “Little Eight, how can someone like that exist…”

The Siamese cat poked its head out, looking conflicted and hesitant to speak.

According to its logical analysis, Ge Qing’s kindness was just a projection of his ideals. Even if it weren’t Jiang Momo, he would have sacrificed himself for anyone who reached that level.

However, considering human emotions, which Little Eight had recently updated its database to understand better, that answer would definitely be inappropriate now.

[Professor Ge is a good person.]

Finally, Little Eight gave a dry and cautious response.

Ten minutes later, Jiang Momo abruptly sat up, wiped away her tears, and crossed her legs on the bed, emptying her mind to reassess the situation.

Little Eight immediately activated the makeshift signal-jamming program it had copied from Lu Feng while in the military base.

“After I left, Shi Qin created an S-grade mecha model under Professor Ge’s supervision and gathered all the materials. He was arrested just before starting production. As the supervising teacher, Ge Qing admitted to the crime and the other students involved were also detained for investigation. But so far, I, who had the closest connection, haven’t been caught. Wait, there’s one more closely related person.”

Midway through her analysis, Jiang Momo suddenly realized she had overlooked a key figure.

Before leaving, she had given Shi Qin the key to the warehouse where the time-manipulation device was kept. According to the lawyer, Shi Qin had already completed the material degrading, which meant he used the warehouse. Therefore, the owner of the warehouse, Ling Yelin, might have also been implicated.

Her heart pounded and she immediately messaged Ling Yelin to inquire.

Ling Yelin quickly replied.

[010]: They did contact me but my special status grants immunity.

[Jiang Momo]: Immunity?

[010]: Yeah, generally, if the judiciary lacks concrete evidence to convict, they can’t take coercive measures against nobles.

[Jiang Momo]: So the reason I’m still okay is because of this status?

[010]: Not entirely. Evidence is easy to find. Thanks to Professor Ge, if he hadn’t taken full responsibility and claimed those materials were made using the academy’s time manipulation device, they would have eventually implicated both of us.

[010]: (Message retracted)

Little Eight clicked its tongue disdainfully.

[He’s quick to retract but his words have no filter. Luckily I recently updated the signal-jamming program. Otherwise, you two would’ve been caught in less than ten minutes after he had sent that message.]

E/N: Here Ge Qing was, being a better family than the Jiang family ever could.
