The Real Daughter Just Wants to Pilot Mechas - Chapter 124
E Mingjun and Jiang Momo exchanged a glance and turned off the communication.
“What does this mean? As soon as I start talking, you cut off the call. Are you isolating me?!” Yan Chang crossed his arms and joked.
E Mingjun explained, “No, it’s just that if your mental power can’t even withstand a legendary mecha…”
Then it would be impossible to fully utilize the power of an S-grade mecha.
Yan Chang raised a hand. “Enough, spare me.”
E Mingjun knew Yan Chang didn’t want to hear it but since he was paid as Yan Chang’s tutor, he couldn’t help but point out the truth. Yet, before he could continue, Jiang Momo, who had been quietly observing from the side, stopped him.
“The higher the mecha’s grade, the better its performance. Objectively speaking, combat strength will increase somewhat,” Jiang Momo said.
“See, that’s how a master should talk. Tutor E, you should learn from her.” Yan Chang lifted his chin in satisfaction. “Alright, looks like nothing major will happen soon. I’m going back to the dorm to play in the simulation pod. Contact me through the light brain if anything comes up.”
Yan Chang walked away with light steps, leaving a cheerful silhouette behind.
“I still think we should make him more aware of his own strength.” E Mingjun frowned.
Jiang Momo patted his shoulder. “He’s not making a living off this. It’s just a hobby.”
E Mingjun still looked unconvinced but didn’t press the issue. “Forget it. What are you planning to do later?”
“Normal classes. It’s Monday and I have a practical class this afternoon.” Jiang Momo downed the last of her mung bean soup, wiped her mouth, and said, “I went to teach Introduction to Mecha Manufacturing class this morning and the classroom was packed. I checked and turned out, that all my favorite students haven’t graduated yet. They must really miss me.”
It was the first class she taught after a short holiday. Due to her schedule, she couldn’t return earlier and all her classes had been covered by Ge Qing.
“Oh, right, I should thank Professor Ge for covering several classes for me.” Jiang Momo grabbed her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and patted E Mingjun’s arm with a bright smile. “Thanks for your help this time too. I’ll treat you to a meal later. I’m heading back to the office. Bye!”
“Goodbye.” E Mingjun nodded at her.
Jiang Momo left briskly, her mind already listing gifts for Ge Qing, E Mingjun, and Yan Chang.
Since leaving the desolate planet, the greatest gain for her had been making those friends. Thanks to them, her sense of belonging to the Capital Star had grown significantly.
It was noon and the sunlight was just right. Students strolled leisurely around campus, chatting, and most of them were still discussing the recent news of Shi Qin being arrested.
Jiang Momo avoided the crowd and walked in the shadows of a corner, listening to the discussions around her. She muttered, “I thought after that live stream ended, they’d be talking more about the legendary mecha…”
Before she could finish, a voice interrupted her, “They wouldn’t dare.”
Jiang Momo turned around abruptly and saw Ge Qing standing behind her, smiling as usual, though the dark circles under his eyes made him look a bit worn out.
“Professor Ge! I was just about to find you! Thanks for covering my classes the other day.”
“It’s nothing. I didn’t lose out and I still got paid for the teaching hours,” Ge Qing joked.
“But still, you really helped me out,” Jiang Momo scratched the back of her head and smiled, “Professor Ge, what did you mean earlier when you said they wouldn’t dare?”
“Your homepage update a few days ago stirred a lot of public opinion. The Federation upgraded its confidentiality monitoring system. Now, it directly monitors the light brain for 24 hours upon detecting certain keywords.” Ge Qing coughed lightly.
Jiang Momo’s smile faded as she quickly recalled her words from the past 24 hours, confirming she hadn’t mentioned any sensitive keywords. She looked up with concern. “Are you alright? You don’t look well.”
“It’s nothing, just a few late nights. I’m getting older, you know,” Ge Qing sighed. “When I heard you’d achieved something innovative, I knew trouble would come sooner or later, so I prepared some public opinion tools. I didn’t expect they’d be used on that kid first.”
Jiang Momo blinked, surprised. “So the initial internet trolls were prepared for me?”
According to Little Eight, the overwhelming support for Shi Qin during the incident was partly due to Ge Qing mobilizing internet trolls before being called in for questioning. She hadn’t realized how far ahead he had planned.
Ge Qing looked a bit apprehensive, his face gloomy. “Originally, I just wanted to prevent them from creating new laws. I even prepared dialogue strategies in advance. At first, I thought it was a waste to use them in that situation two days ago, but it turned out to be just right.”
Ge Qing suddenly thought of something, saying, “You always had a gift for mecha manufacturing… that…”
“No,” Jiang Momo answered decisively.
“I didn’t even ask the question.” Ge Qing was taken aback, but something flashed in his mind and suddenly he realized something.
Jiang Momo shook her head firmly. “Definitely not.”
Ge Qing had been unsure but now he was completely convinced. The pride in Jiang Momo’s eyes left no room for doubt.
He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. After decades of researching mecha, he had never successfully created a super S-grade mecha, let alone a legendary one. It was truly humbling.
Ge Qing sighed. “Alright, go rest for now. We’ll pause practical classes for a few days.”
Jiang Momo hesitated. “What? Why? I promise I won’t teach any weird stuff.”
“That’s not it. The students are still under investigation and haven’t been released.” Ge Qing looked exhausted. “The Federation suspects they planned to make an S-grade mecha but they haven’t found evidence yet. If they don’t find any within 24 hours, then they’ll be released.”
Jiang Momo frowned, feeling something was off, and pointed at herself. “If the investigation is so strict, then why hasn’t anyone questioned me?”
She was their practical class instructor. If they were making an S-grade mecha, wouldn’t she be the most suspicious one?
“Your abilities surpass mine,” Ge Qing suddenly said, seemingly out of nowhere.
Jiang Momo felt like she had been struck by lightning as a shocking realization dawned on her.
“I’m out on bail but the trial isn’t over yet.” Ge Qing patted her gently.
Though his touch was light, Jiang Momo felt as if a thousand pounds were pressing down on her. She trembled as she whispered, “You taught him how to make an S-grade mecha?”
Ge Qing looked at her with a hint of pride. “Who else? In the entire academy, which teacher could build an S-grade mecha? Even you haven’t completely built one yet.”
“Why?” Jiang Momo’s voice was shaky.
“Because of my dream, to become a mentor who passes on mecha manufacturing knowledge, freeing geniuses from conventional paths that stifle their talent.” Ge Qing looked at Jiang Momo with unwavering resolve.
For years, he had been trying to create a path for future innovators. Now that one had appeared, he was willing to sacrifice everything to keep it open.
