As Jiang Momo and Little Eight were chatting, the room suddenly went dark. The only light came from outside, shining through the window.

“Power outage?” Jiang Momo wondered.

Wasn’t the Capital Star supposed to have 24-hour electricity? She even thought there was light pollution outside.

[To be precise, only your room lost power.] Little Eight checked the surveillance and displayed some silent dismay on the screen.

Jiang Momo: “???”

What does that mean?!

Just as she was stunned, a rustling sound came from outside, followed by the noise of an electric drill. Then there was a loud clink as a metal plate was placed on the window, plunging the room into complete darkness.

Jiang Momo immediately jumped up and walked to the door, trying to open it.

The darkness didn’t affect her much because of her earlier genetic modifications and specific training, which allowed her to see clearly in the dark.

The door was locked.

Jiang Momo returned to the bed.

Faintly, she could hear Jiang Xian and Jiang Zhang talking outside.

“She won’t manage to open this, will she?” Jiang Xian asked.

“It’s unlikely. This is the strongest alloy available on the market,” Jiang Zhang’s voice sounded cold.

“Momo should be able to sense our good intentions, right?” Jiang Xian said.

“Not necessarily,” Jiang Zhang replied. “She might not be afraid of the dark.”

“I’m doing this to prevent her from going down the wrong path. She still hasn’t told us what she stole and sold. The Capital Star isn’t like the desolate planets. There are laws here and I’m afraid the next time we see her, it will be in prison.”

There was a brief silence outside.

Jiang Xian spoke again, “Do you think I’m being biased as a mother?”

Jiang Momo raised an eyebrow and whispered to Little Eight, “When did Big Brother start caring about my life and death? This isn’t like him.”

[Not necessarily for you.] Little Eight typed the sentence out on the screen using ancient text.

Jiang Momo immediately understood.

“Big Brother was locked in a small dark room before! And he’s afraid of the dark!”

As expected, Jiang Zhang’s voice came from outside, “As long as you think it’s not excessive.”

Jiang Xian sighed. “How could it not be excessive? Both the palms and backs of my hands are flesh. I’m heartbroken.”

Jiang Momo confidently commented, “This has nothing to do with me either.”

Jiang Xian sighed, “I’m her mother and I want what’s best for her. She lived on the desolate planet for more than a decade, without proper education or discipline. The way she is now, I also bear some responsibility.”

Jiang Momo shrugged. “Oh, I guessed wrong.”

“She doesn’t necessarily need this kind of discipline. It wouldn’t benefit us either,” Jiang Zhang said.

Jiang Xian’s voice grew louder. “You’re just like your father! You have no sense of compassion. All you think about is business, always calculating the benefits!”

From that point, their voices gradually grew quieter.

“Dad’s going on a one-month business trip to the second-tier planet soon,” Jiang Zhang said.

“When is he leaving?” Jiang Xian asked.

“Tonight,” Jiang Zhang replied.

“He hasn’t been home for a month. He’s not coming back to see Momo?” Jiang Xian asked.

Jiang Zhang remained silent.

Jiang Xian waved her hand tiredly. “Forget it, I can’t control both of you.”

“If you feel sorry for Jiang Momo, you can be nicer to her,” Jiang Zhang said.

Jiang Xian seemed lost in thought. “I also want to but what about Yingying? She’ll be upset.”

After a long pause, Jiang Xian sighed. “Forget it, I’ll try to be kinder to her from now on. After all, she’s my biological daughter.”

On the other side of the wall, Jiang Momo and Little Eight, who were eavesdropping on the conversation, exchanged a glance.

[What do you think?]

“I know this!” Jiang Momo answered immediately. “This is crocodile tears!”

The next morning, an important figure arrived at the Jiang family’s villa.

Three private spacecraft hovered over the villa, sleek and black with intricate golden patterns etched on the underside, exuding a dignified air.

Ling Wenlin who had been partying with Jiang Yuan until late the previous night and had drunk too much woke up to the familiar roar of an engine. He quickly jumped out of bed, panic-stricken, when he saw the ship outside the window.

“This is bad, this is bad! I only stayed out one night and now my family is here to catch me?!”

Jiang Yuan, awoken by the noise, immediately sat up. He had slept in his clothes, looking disheveled.

“Quick, give them access, I need to go back,” Ling Wenlin urged, tapping Jiang Yuan.

“I don’t have the permission for the family’s villa. I’ll go ask my mom,” Jiang Yuan said, rushing out.

In the living room, Jiang Xian and Jiang Zhang were already up, looking at the spaceship.

“Mom, open the access, let them land,” Jiang Yuan said, his voice quick and anxious. “That’s the Ling family’s spaceship.”

“The Ling family? They’re here to pick up the young master?” Jiang Xian immediately removed the protective shield.

The spaceship landed in the yard and a group of men in black filed out in perfect formation, standing in two lines from the spaceship to the villa’s front door. The entire process was eerily quiet and their dark sunglasses added to the intimidating aura.

Ling Wenlin, dragging his weary body, arrived at the villa entrance and saw the scene.

“This is too much. Is my older brother really here to catch me?” he muttered.

Hearing this, the Jiang family suddenly stiffened.

A tall figure stepped down from the spaceship, with characteristic golden hair dazzling in the sunlight and lake-green eyes glaring at everyone in front of the villa.

Ling Yelin scanned the surroundings with disdain, his gaze sweeping over the Jiang family’s villa and the poor conditions of the lower-class people. If it weren’t for Jiang Momo being there, he wouldn’t even set foot in the place. He despised these people.

The looks they gave him were all the same; fear, awe, or sycophancy. All of them disgusted him.

The Jiang family felt immense pressure, unable to breathe.

“Good morning, Big Brother,” Ling Wenlin said, poking his head out from behind Jiang Yuan and forcing a smile. “Why did you come personally?”

Ling Yelin turned to glance at him, scrutinizing his wrinkled clothes. “Why are you here?” he asked coldly.

Ling Wenlin sighed in relief and smiled widely. “I’m here hanging out with my friend! I’ll head back soon.”

“You know my older brother? You should have said so earlier,” Ling Wenlin said cheerfully, whispering to Jiang Yuan.

The Jiang family stood frozen, afraid to even breathe.

Ling Yelin was from the privileged class. If they made any mistake and offended him, their place in the Central Star System would be finished.

“Where’s Jiang Momo?” Ling Yelin walked into the villa and, as he passed the others, instinctively covered his nose and mouth.

Jiang Momo?!

The Jiang family’s faces went pale.

Jiang Momo had managed to offend such a big shot?!

“Has Momo done something wrong? She’s kind of silly. If she’s offended you, just take her away,” Jiang Xian said cautiously.

Jiang Zhang grabbed Jiang Xian’s arm. “If Momo has offended you, we, the Jiang family, will apologize on her behalf.”

Ling Yelin finally turned and looked at Jiang Zhang, raising his chin slightly. “What’s your name?” he asked, his tone implying it was a privilege to ask.

“Jiang Zhang.”

“Hmm. Where’s Jiang Momo’s room?” Ling Yelin pulled out a residence permit for the Capital Star. “I’m here to deliver something to her as agreed.”

The Jiang family fell silent, staring at the words on the permit.

Which room?

Given the current situation, would they dare to say anything?

“Momo?” Ling Wenlin suddenly realized, answering eagerly as if claiming credit. “Isn’t she your family’s maid? She stays in the room at the corner of the first floor.”

“Maid?” Ling Yelin chuckled.

He had investigated when he returned the previous day. Jiang Momo was a child recently brought back from the desolate planet. He hadn’t expected them to not even get her the Capital Star Residency and even treated her like a maid?

It seemed they had no idea about Jiang Momo’s true value.

These low-class people might have great wealth, yet they were still blind, foolish, and short-sighted.

Ling Yelin smiled but his aura became even more oppressive. The Jiang family was drenched in cold sweat, their hearts racing.

“Since you, the Jiang family, don’t intend to take care of her, I’ll take her from here,” Ling Yelin said flatly, without consulting anyone. “Open the door, I’m taking her.”

He didn’t want to stay in the place for a second longer.

Under Ling Yelin’s gaze, Jiang Zhang felt the pressure and moved forward to open Jiang Momo’s door.

Inside, the room was empty.

Everything in the room was exactly as it had been when Jiang Momo arrived, showing no sign that anyone had lived there.

“Where is she?” Ling Yelin asked, his tone dark as he followed Jiang Zhang inside.

“Maybe… she ran away,” Jiang Zhang cautiously pointed to the open window. “We’ll report it to the police right away.”

“No need. I’ll find her myself.”

Ling Yelin turned and raised his right hand, making a subtle motion with his finger. He ordered the bodyguards behind him, “Destroy this room.”
