After releasing the lanterns, the three returned directly to the inn. Bai Meng swayed slightly along the way, which Mo Yu noticed. Several times, he wanted to say something but held back. Eventually, he couldn’t control his curiosity and stealthily poked Bai Meng.

“So, what wish did you make?” Mo Yu whispered.

“Mo Yu, I didn’t expect this from you… Tsk tsk tsk…” Bai Meng looked at him with a mischievous smile and a teasing glint in his eye.

“I… I was just curious!” Mo Yu stammered, flustered.

“Then stay curious~” Bai Meng laughed mischievously. “As the handsomest captain of Xingge Hall, I need to maintain an air of mystery.”

Mo Yu: “……”

Mystery? No, that doesn’t exist—wake up, friend.

The three returned to the inn and found it completely empty, with only the innkeeper at the front desk busily working his abacus. Bai Meng yawned and went upstairs with Mo Hankui to rest, while Mo Yu stayed behind for a quick late-night snack before rushing off to sleep.

The next morning, Bai Meng, as calm as ever, carefully freed his ass from Mo Hankui’s hands. After confirming that his clothes were in order, he went downstairs. Mo Jiuge was already sitting there, and shortly after, Mo Hankui joined them. With a shared look among themselves, the three decided to go out for breakfast.

“For an inn, just porridge for breakfast?! And the buns didn’t even have any filling?!” Bai Meng exclaimed with frustration as he sat at a nearby dumpling stall, animatedly complaining about how the innkeeper looked at them as if they were unfaithful lovers sneaking over a wall.

“In just a few days, the plain broth and tasteless food have made me lose weight!”

Mo Hankui and Mo Jiuge listened calmly. When the dumplings arrived, Mo Hankui even considerately handed Bai Meng a pair of chopsticks and casually patted him on the stomach.

“Well, that’s strange.” Mo Hankui feigned surprise, “Why is it that this part hasn’t slimmed down but feels softer instead?”

“……” Caught off guard by Mo Hankui’s bold playfulness, Bai Meng quickly buried his face in his bowl of dumplings. His white ears flushed faintly pink, even trembling a little.

“Have you heard?”

“Heard what?”

“They say that Mo Hankui, who’s always been obsessed with our hall master, recently encountered with new male pet at His Highness’s residence! With Mo Hankui’s personality, I expected bloodshed, but…”

“But what? Tell me already!”

“But that little male pet begged for mercy, and Mo Hankui just took him along as his own male pet!”

“No way! So scandalous?! That little male pet must be a fox spirit! Otherwise, given Mo Hankui’s notorious possessiveness and temper, he would have killed him by now!”

“I’m not sure, but they say he’s still alive! Supposedly, he’s one of those types with a tiny waist, really fair skin, big, dewy eyes, and a little tail that trembles ever so delicately—adorable enough to make anyone’s heart ache!”

—Pfft!

Not far away, Bai Meng, overhearing this conversation, suddenly spat out his sweet rice wine. The fluffy ears on his head were trembling, and he laughed so hard he was limp with mirth. Across from him, a gray-haired man said nothing, though a noticeable chill surrounded him. He lowered his gaze, clearly feeling resigned about Bai Meng’s laughing fit.

—Bai Meng and Mo Hankui: one, a rumored “little male pet,” delicate and pitiable, suspected to be a fox spirit in disguise; the other, Mo So-and-so, a besotted fool, driven by such intense desire that he seemed blinded by it.

“…Seriously?”

Mo Jiuge, standing nearby, looked on helplessly at Bai Meng, who was doubled over with laughter. “Doesn’t hearing these kinds of rumors make you mad?” Why are you laughing so hard?!

“…Hahaha, you just don’t get it!” Having laughed enough, Bai Meng sat up straight, his small tail still twitching uncontrollably. “It’s my first time as the main character in a rumor… It means everyone acknowledges my beauty!”

Mo Jiuge: “……”

Mo Hankui: “……”
