…Hall Master’s consort…

…Hall Master’s consort…

Bai Meng felt like he was dreaming. He instinctively pinched his arm, which caused Mo Yu to yelp in pain.

“—Ow—!!!”

“Bai Meng, why did you pinch me?!” Mo Yu rubbed his reddened arm, his handsome face showing a hint of grievance.

“Sorry, sorry, that was an accident,” Bai Meng quickly apologized, though he couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Oh my god, Da Mo’s words sound amazing! I can’t stay calm! Right now, I feel like breaking open a durian with my bare hands, smashing stones on my chest, and jumping from the eighteenth floor without a rope!!!

“Congratulations, congratulations.”

Mo Lengsui handed him a piece of candy with an expressionless face.

“Thanks, much appreciated.”

Bai Meng accepted it without hesitation. “Make sure you’re there when we get married!”

Everyone: “……”

Mo Jiuge closed his eyes, unable to watch.

Could these two maybe take stock of the situation around them? If Bai Meng’s “lethality” was one, then Mo Lengsui’s was also one. But with the two of them together, it was somehow far more than just one plus one…

The others could already envision what the future might hold…

In contrast to the lighthearted atmosphere in Xingge Hall, the mood in Yinchen Hall had grown more and more stifling. Feng Suiling’s expression shifted constantly as if deep in thought, while Feng Qingxuan seemed so furious he was nearly speechless.

“What is that supposed to mean?!”

It took Feng Qingxuan a long moment to gather his breath, glaring sharply at the two like daggers, speaking through clenched teeth.

Mo Hankui’s expression remained unchanged, though a faint hint of irritation seeped into his tone. “I’ve said it several times already. Apologize. Are you deaf?”

“……”

This fierce Da Mo is so impressive!!!

Bai Meng’s fair, clean hands trembled slightly; he had an almost irresistible urge to pop a snack into his mouth.

Suddenly, the sound of a commotion erupted outside. Bai Meng turned to see a few familiar elderly figures arriving with a team of guards. The leader’s face looked like a dried grapefruit, lined with deep, harsh wrinkles. When he saw Bai Meng standing there, his expression turned into one of contempt.

“Hall Master Mo.”

The elder at the front, the Grand Elder of Yinchen Hall, gave a slight nod to Mo Hankui as a sign of respect, completely ignoring Bai Meng and the others nearby.

“Do all elders have to act like this?”

Bai Meng muttered quietly to Mo Jiuge.

“No, only those in Yinchen Hall act this way,” Mo Jiuge replied with a mocking smile on his handsome face. “After all, the previous Master of Yinchen Hall was ‘justly executed’ by the Elder Council in a display of ‘righteous justice.'”

“……”

Interesting, that’s a bold move.

Bai Meng nodded in understanding, signaling he got the message.

The elders of Yinchen Hall gathered around Feng Qingxuan, listening arrogantly as their subordinates reported. When the Grand Elder heard Mo Hankui’s words from earlier, he chuckled incredulously before quickly restoring his strict, harsh demeanor.

“…Hall Master Mo, we came here today on serious business. We won’t have you dodging it by hiding behind some loud-mouthed clown.”

“Thinking of eating something?” Mo Hankui asked, his gaze fixed ahead as he entwined his fingers with Bai Meng’s, his voice low and steady.

“Anything’s fine… Uh, got any fried dough sticks?” Bai Meng whispered back to Mo Hankui, infuriating the elder of Yinchen Hall so much that his white beard nearly stood on end.

If Bai Meng acknowledged them, he’d be solidifying his “clown” label. But Mo Hankui and Bai Meng both understood this and simply ignored the elders of Yinchen Hall right in front of everyone.

“Hey!”

The Second Elder of Yinchen Hall cast Bai Meng a pointed glance, “Hall Master Mo, you’re too lenient with those around you. You can’t distinguish flattery from loyal advice.”

“Xingge Hall’s matters are none of Yinchen Hall’s concern,” Mo Hankui replied, his brows knitting tightly. “If you’re here just for a drink, then have it and leave. Don’t disturb my rest.”

“…Well, aren’t you something, Hall Master Mo!”

The Grand Elder of Yinchen Hall stormed out in fury, followed by Feng Qingxuan and others. Only the Second Elder of Silver Dust Hall lingered at the doorway, glancing back at Mo Hankui. “Hall Master Mo, this time you’ve gone too far.”

Then he vanished with the others into the dark of night.

“…So what exactly was their purpose in coming?!” Mo Lei looked on in confusion as they departed, and the rest of the group exchanged puzzled looks.

“We’ll see when the time comes. For now, everyone stay on guard here.”

Mo Jiuge rubbed his tightly furrowed brow, struggling to make sense of things. Seeing Mo Hankui and Bai Meng huddled close together only made his headache worse, so he pushed aside his complicated thoughts and gave instructions to everyone.

The following morning, they finally understood the reason for the repeated visits from Yinchen Hall.

“Hall Master…” Mo Jiuge’s face, rarely so serious, appeared even graver than usual. “This time, something really has happened.”

“Hmm?” Bai Meng was still eating at that moment, but the atmosphere had suddenly turned deathly quiet. He looked up at Mo Jiuge, whose face was obscured by shadow. His handsome features were expressionless, his voice tinged with weariness.

“We came to Yinchen Hall this time to find someone to accompany us to the border. He’s from Lanxi Hall and is specifically responsible for managing the boundary seal…”

“But just now, we received a report from the spies in Yinchen Hall.”

“Lan Wei is dead.”
