The Protagonist is Always Intimidating Me - Chapter 27
“Stop.”
A cold voice pierced through the tense atmosphere of the tournament arena. Upon recognizing who it was, most of those who had started moving halted their actions. Bai Meng, too, was interrupted and momentarily distracted.
The man wore a pure black satin robe with faint gold embroidery, with a vibrant red lining underneath. His collar was slightly open, revealing a slender yet rugged neckline. His long gray hair was meticulously tied behind him, highlighting his imposing and striking appearance against the contrasting black and red.
—If only he still had golden pupils. Then my Da Bai would look even better.
Bai Meng thought absentmindedly.
He lowered his crow-feather-like long lashes, concealing the emotions in his pitch-black pupils. His right hand unconsciously touched the skin on the back of his left hand, which felt slightly warm at that moment.
Behind the man followed several elderly figures, and when Mo Jiuge glanced over, he immediately recognized those old men as elders of Yinchen Hall. Though his expression remained unchanged, countless thoughts flashed through his mind…
…Are they here because of the matter with Feng Shi, or is there another scheme afoot?
Without revealing his thoughts, Mo Jiuge exchanged a quick glance with Mo Lengsui and the others. Understanding the silent signal, the group subtly dispersed, positioning themselves at the entrances around them.
As Mo Hankui approached, a few on the stage noticed the elders following him. Feeling as though they had found some support, the three who had been attacking Bai Meng exchanged a glance, seizing the moment of his distraction to continue their assault. After all, they weren’t from Xingge Hall, so why should they listen?
A figure suddenly appeared in front of Bai Meng. When he snapped back to his senses, he saw that Mo Hankui had kicked one of them with just one strike, cracking bones on impact and leaving him struggling to stand.
Bai Meng, standing behind Mo Hankui, was briefly stunned.
“Why aren’t you resting and instead causing trouble here in the arena?” Mo Hankui asked coldly, his back still turned to Bai Meng, appearing completely indifferent.
But Bai Meng simply smiled and shook his head. “I couldn’t help it. I’m driven by ambition.”
While his face showed nonchalance, he felt a lingering regret in his heart… That call I heard before I slept, was that just a dream?
“……”
Mo Hankui turned slightly to look at him, his gray pupils carrying a hint of complexity. “I never knew you had something like ambition.”
“Sigh, you’ve never understood my ambitions, just as you don’t understand the depth of my heart…” Bai Meng shook his head with regret.
“……” Mo Hankui: Heart??
“Even if I died and was nailed inside a coffin, I would still shout with a decaying voice from the grave: ‘Bai Meng is the most handsome captain of Xingge Hall!’”
“……”
The two continued to chat in the arena as if nothing had happened. Though Mo Hankui, the Hall Master of Xingge Hall, was elusive and rarely seen, those aspiring to join the guard team at least needed to know what their future leader looked like. So, when he stepped in front of Bai Meng, most people quickly realized his identity.
However, there are always those who don’t understand their place and fail to prepare properly before stirring up trouble…
Bai Meng cast a cold glance at the figures on the ground who had attempted another sneak attack, only to be kicked down and left rolling around in pain. His flat, unsympathetic words only intensified their frustration as he remarked, “So miserable. They’re really just so miserable…”
“Do you even know who I am?!” One of the injured men snarled angrily, “I…”
Before he could finish, Bai Meng kicked him again, sending him rolling on the ground for several more turns.
“……”
One of the older men who had come with Mo Hankui could no longer contain his anger and seemed ready to step forward, but a calm voice sounded beside him: “What’s this? A collective rebellion?”
Everyone turned to see a young man speaking, with black hair and strikingly different-colored eyes. He wore a flowing, pure white robe, his features cold and refined, like a distant mountain shrouded in the morning mist, his beauty both ethereal and proud. Yet his expression was blank, and he exuded an unapproachable chill that made others instinctively step back.
“He is Xingge Hall’s Elder, Mo Zhiyan. As elders of Yinchen Hall, in any circumstance, you should consult him.” Mo Hankui’s voice was unwavering, carrying a chill of indifference.
Bai Meng glanced in surprise at the man beside him. He hadn’t expected Mo Hankui to be so blunt in his rebuttal. It was as if he were saying: “You elders, whatever you’re scheming or pushing for, speak with the elders of my Xingge Hall. Don’t waste my time. I am the Hall Master, and none of you old men here are worthy of addressing me directly…”
The elders’ faces darkened instantly.
“Pfft…”
Standing beside Mo Hankui, Bai Meng, upon understanding the situation, looked at the dark expressions on the elders’ faces and couldn’t help but burst into laughter. His voice was clear and crisp, which only made the elders’ expressions even darker.
