As Bai Meng stepped into the arena, the crowd erupted into cheers.

“…He’s out of his mind…” Mo Lei muttered, watching the boy standing tall below. “Doesn’t he realize how dangerous it is to be the defender? It’s basically inviting a mob attack!”

The guards who had gone through such a selection themselves remained silent. They knew all too well how brutal and challenging the competition could be.

Mo Lengsui, his face as expressionless as ever, glanced at Bai Meng in the ring, clearly disapproving. “People who are in such a hurry to die, and even bring their own fast pass, are something I’ve never heard of, mmph—”

Before he could finish, Mo Chao, the shortest but most insightful member of the team, quickly covered his mouth again. Mo Chao, who had long suffered from Mo Lengsui’s reckless comments, could only pray for his safety.

Big brother! Just because you’re the team’s healer doesn’t mean you can insult the captain whenever you want! Even though he’s gentle, he’ll still hit you!

Mo Chao frantically signaled with his eyes. Mo Lengsui nodded in understanding, and Mo Chao released him; it seemed that threatening him with the captain was indeed effective…

“Mo Chao, did you just have an eye spasm?” Mo Lengsui responded, nodding thoughtfully. “Don’t worry, even if you don’t say anything, I won’t tell anyone. We’re a team, I won’t mind if you’ve got a condition…”

Mo Chao: “…Get lost.”

“All right, let’s focus,” Mo Jiuge said, gesturing for the four of them to calm down. His tone turned serious. “Be ready. The moment something goes wrong, we intervene immediately.”

“…Why does this guy even bother with the guards? Can’t he just surrender and spare everyone the trouble?!” Mo Yu’s handsome face twisted in irritation, but Mo Lei, glancing at him out of the corner of his eye, noticed that his whole body was tense, clearly prepared to jump in and rescue Bai Meng at any moment.

Mo Lei: “……”

Men and their contradictions.

Bai Meng stood across from the arena’s entrance, wearing a faint smile. The arrogant beastman who had challenged him earlier hurriedly handed his orb to the examiner and leaped onto the platform.

“Bai Meng.” “Mo Hui.”

Under the intense gaze of the crowd and the beastmen’s loud cheers, Bai Meng and Mo Hui completed the traditional pre-fight ritual.

Mo Hui pressed his palms together, faint streams of Sheng energy coiling around them. With a sneer, he exhaled sharply, then slammed his foot into the ground, propelling himself straight at Bai Meng.

For a weakling like Bai Meng, Mo Hui didn’t even bother summoning his weapon. He planned to crush him with pure Sheng, keeping things simple and easy.

“Hey, kid! Watch out!”

“Take this!”

Mo Hui swiftly closed in on Bai Meng, his right palm gathering Sheng as he clenched it into a fist. He swung it forcefully toward Bai Meng’s slender chest.

The crowd’s excitement grew as they watched Mo Hui’s swift, precise movements. Even Mo Chao raised an eyebrow at the sight. He hadn’t expected Mo Hui to handle his Sheng so well without using a weapon—definitely someone with potential.

Just as Mo Hui closed in on Bai Meng, a soft breeze lifted the boy’s hair, revealing his deep, black eyes. Bai Meng’s lips curled into a wide smile, his gaze calmly following the incoming fist.

In an instant, Bai Meng dodged, and in the next moment, a massive black sword appeared in his pale hand.

But rather than a sword, it resembled a giant, blunt, black iron ruler. The end of the weapon wasn’t pointed but had a flat, mirror-smooth surface, as if it had been sliced cleanly in half. The blade was etched with strange, faintly glowing patterns that spiraled around the sword, resembling the spine of some giant beast. These markings, combined with the blade’s pitch-black surface, gave it an eerie, mystical aura.

The giant sword was even taller than Bai Meng by a third, and when it materialized, it cast a long shadow over him. Yet, despite its overwhelming size, Bai Meng’s face still held that unbothered, cheerful smile.

“You should be careful too…”

Under the sunlight, the black blade gleamed with a cold, murderous light. Bai Meng gripped the hilt tightly and, shockingly, swung the massive weapon single-handedly.

“Take this!”

Before anyone could fully comprehend Bai Meng’s movements, the giant black sword had already crashed down toward Mo Hui.

Mo Hui’s pupils widened in terror as the enormous black sword filled his vision. The wind howled as the blade sliced through the air, and Mo Hui—nine feet tall and solidly built—was sent flying like a leaf caught in a storm, landing lightly outside the arena.

The watching beastmen: “……”

Mo Jiuge: “……”

The guard team, ready to jump in: “……”

The arena fell into stunned silence.

After a moment, the examiner recovered, placing an orb onto the platform. It disappeared instantly, and a white mark appeared on Bai Meng’s token at the same time.

“Bai Meng successfully defends his position! Please select your next opponent.”
