Chapter 76: Baby, Who Are You Calling Baby?

She suffered another silent defeat.
Gu Chenxi was actually implementing a Literary Inquisition in the company.

Ye Jin was furious but helpless, so she could only secretly note this down for future reckoning.

At 3 p.m., she was assigned to work off-site and left the company with Gu Chenxi.

With Gu Chenxis recent skyrocketing status, his license plate number had become widely recognized, so he had purchased a new vehicle for non-business trips.

The car purchase process went through Ye Jin.

She had consequently become familiar with numerous luxury car brands and models.

Though this knowledge wasnt particularly useful to her.

After settling into the backseat of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan with Gu Chenxi, Ye Jin finally asked, Where are we going?

So she was finally willing to talk to him?

Ever since he forbade her from calling him Xixi at the company, she had been treating him with obvious displeasure.

While she hadnt let emotions affect her work, she had largely ignored him.

Even her smiles felt perfunctory.

Gu Chenxi leaned back in his seat and wrote on his tablet for her to see:

To see the tailor.

Ye Jin read it and responded with a lukewarm Oh.

The two rear seats in the Cullinan were separated.

Gu Chenxi wanted to make amends, but she wasnt even looking in his direction. After some hesitation, he finally put away his tablet.

Gu Chenxi needed to attend many business events in the coming period.

His suits were all custom-made with relatively long production cycles. While Ye Jin had previously picked up finished suits for him, this was her first time involved in the customization process.

Spaces frequented by the wealthy tended to be spacious and impeccably clean, with everything from floor to ceiling screaming one word: expensive.

Taking measurements, selecting fabrics, choosing styles.

After his measurements were taken, Gu Chenxi turned to see Ye Jin quietly discussing something with the consultant.

He was wearing a white dress shirt and undid his cufflink with one hand as he walked toward her.

Mr. Gu.

Temporarily forgetting her anger, Ye Jin waved him over and pointed at the tablet. Would you consider some more elaborate suit styles?

Womens clothing might be complex, but mens fashion was equally intricate.

Especially among the wealthy—with money to spare, they explored endless design variations on basic styles.

After browsing through the tablet offered by the consultant, she suddenly felt like she was playing a dress-up game.

Ye Jin: Mr. Gu, with your excellent physique, I think you should experiment a little.

Such amiability.

Gu Chenxi even felt somewhat flattered.

He nodded uncertainly at Ye Jin.

Even if this was a trap she was setting, he would accept it.

Letting her win occasionally to make her happy wasnt a bad thing.

The consultant said, We have ready-to-wear samples here that you can try on to see the styles.

Ye Jin picked several sets and ushered Gu Chenxi into the fitting room.

She sat outside contentedly, waiting to appreciate the view.

Gu Chenxi had a standard models physique—even in ready-to-wear suits, everything looked perfectly fitted.

When he emerged from the fitting room, he instinctively looked toward Ye Jin.

Looks good.

Ye Jin gave her approval.

She turned to the consultant and said, Please add this set to the order.

Certainly, Miss Ye.

The consultant adored such generous clients.

Satisfaction was all that mattered.

Gu Chenxis nervous heart relaxed slightly before he returned to the fitting room.

Under Ye Jins direction, he tried on five or six sets in one go.

Ye Jin grew increasingly delighted as the colors of his suits grew increasingly outrageous.

The seventh set even turned out to be a deep green formal dress. At first glance it appeared black, but under the refraction of light it revealed a rich green hue—both understated and luxurious.

Gu Chenxi took a look at it himself in the fitting room and thought the color resembled that of a fly.

He pushed the door open and stepped out.

Wow—so handsome, Ye Jin didnt hold back her praise.

The deep green garment made his skin appear especially fair.

Though the color was somewhat flamboyant, it was tempered by Gu Chenxis somber brows and eyes, leaving only elegance and nobility.

He looked like a character straight out of a painting.

Although she found it attractive, since she wasnt the one wearing it, she had to respect Gu Chenxis own opinion.

So Ye Jin asked, Mr. Gu, do you like this color?

Her eyes now sparkled like little stars.

Gu Chenxi paused for a moment, then nodded.

Mm.

Not bad.

Ye Jin turned to the sales assistant and said, Then well keep this one too.

The sales assistant nodded, Very well, Miss Ye.

The atmosphere was just right, and since the two before her were major clients, she habitually flattered, You two have such a wonderful relationship. This gentleman is so patient with his wife.

At first, she hadnt noticed.

But seeing how this gentleman had cooperatively tried on so many sets without showing any impatience
If she still couldnt discern their relationship, then all her years as a sales assistant would have been for nothing.

Uh—

Ye Jins smile suddenly froze.

Then she suddenly realized that she had indeed overstepped a bit.

The key point was that Gu Chenxi never objected, and the sales assistant was so enthusiastic.

So she had inadvertently gotten a little too carried away.

Thank you, Gu Chenxi nodded to the sales assistant.

He remained calm and composed, directly accepting the sales assistants remark.

Thus, Ye Jin had no room left to explain.

Because no matter what she said now, it would come across as trying to cover things up.

Alright, thats enough.

Ye Jins rationality kicked in, putting a stop to this absurd situation. The ones weve selected should be sufficient.

The sales assistant smiled, Very well, sir and madam.

What nonsense, sir and madam.

The sales assistant continued promoting, We also offer custom tailoring services for womens ready-to-wear and formal dresses. Would you like to take a look?

Ye Jin: No need.

Right now, she was using every ounce of her composure to maintain a smile.

Well take it.

But Gu Chenxi suddenly spoke up.

He walked over to Ye Jin, still wearing that deep green formal dress, and sat down beside her, casually taking the tablet from her hands.

Miss Ye, please come with me over here to let the tailor take your measurements.

Ye Jin turned her head and emphasized in a low voice, I said no need, Mr. Gu.

Gu Chenxi also replied in the same low tone, For work, alright? Assistant Ye.

Ye Jins words were filled with menace.

But Gu Chenxis voice flowed smoothly, sounding very much like a lovers whisper.

So Ye Jin abruptly stood up.

Lets go.

Suddenly, Ye Jin felt an urgent desire to leave this place.

Watching her retreating back, a faint smile flickered across Gu Chenxis face.

Taking measurements was simple.

Ye Jin returned after just a short while.

Gu Chenxi had already selected a few outfits and casually handed her the tablet to review.

Not bad, Ye Jin flipped through them casually. Lets go with these then.

After all, it wasnt her money being spent.

Very well, sir and madam. Please rest here for a moment. Ill be right back.

The sales assistant left with the items.

Ye Jin couldnt stay idle, so she picked up her phone.

Shu Lingxi had cautiously sent her an email, asking about a work-related problem.

Ye Jin typed a reply.

Soon after, she received a call from Shu Lingxi.

On the other end of the line, Shu Lingxi was crying bitterly.

Between sobs, she asked Ye Jin about the source of a set of data.

Ye Jin answered her, then advised, …Theres no need to be so serious about it. If you cant finish it, just set it aside for now and work on something else.

But this is already the easiest task, Shu Lingxi choked out between tears. I cant do any of the others.

Ye Jin:
Shu Lingxi sniffled and said, Right now, all this feels like gibberish to me. No matter how much I look at it, I just cant understand it.

This was very strange.

Shu Lingxi had graduated from a top-tier university, far superior to Ye Jins ordinary 211 institution.

If Ye Jin could master these things with ease, logically, Shu Lingxi shouldnt be struggling so much.

Dont rush, Ye Jin comforted her. If you cant understand it, it might not entirely be your fault.

Shu Lingxi remained distraught, crying, If its not my fault, then whose is it?

Of course, it was because of that damned setting.

Gu Chenxis inability to speak his mind was constrained by the setting.

Shu Lingxi might be bound by one too.

But Ye Jin couldnt say that. Instead, she gently suggested, Perhaps youre under too much pressure?

How about this: Ill approve a day off for you tomorrow so you can rest, alright?

No, Shu Lingxi bit her lip and insisted, I can overcome this on my own.

She swallowed back her sobs and analyzed quietly, Actually, its not that Im completely incapable. Its just that the gap is too great. My efficiency and comprehension have dropped so much since I started working, and Im struggling to accept it.

Its good that you can overcome it, Ye Jin thought to herself, feeling both relieved and increasingly fond of her.

A resilient, inspiring little white flower female lead.

A character like this would be a gem in any novel setting.

Keep it up, Xi—

The last syllable suddenly died in her throat.

Because Ye Jin suddenly remembered that Gu Chenxi currently forbade using that nickname.

At that moment, Gu Chenxi was still in the fitting room, changing back into his own clothes.

Only Ye Jin was outside.

Holding her phone, Ye Jin thought for a moment and switched to another term of endearment.

Baby.

Shu Lingxi was amused by her sudden backtracking.

Ill do my best, Jinjin.

Just as Ye Jin was about to say more, she suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.

She looked up.

Gu Chenxi had emerged from the fitting room.

He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, his jacket casually draped over his arm. Tall and poised, he exuded an imposing presence.

Baby?

Gu Chenxi suddenly laughed.

A laugh of sheer frustration.

He stepped closer to Ye Jin, slow and deliberate, a smile still on his face, but it felt eerie and unsettling.

Baby.

Gu Chenxi called out again, his voice low.

This time, it wasnt a question—he was addressing Ye Jin.

Ye Jin instinctively took a step back, but it was useless.

Gu Chenxis strides were twice the length of hers. Though he moved unhurriedly, the distance between them closed rapidly.

Who were you calling baby? Gu Chenxi asked, leaning down.

Doomed.

No matter how gruesome the outcome might be.

Ye Jin pointed at her phone and deliberately added fuel to the fire: Xixi was crying. I was comforting him.

Hearing this, Gu Chenxis expression darkened further.

His voice rose slightly as he accused, When I cry, how come you never comfort me?

Ye Jin:
Is that really the point here?

Moreover.

Didnt I comfort you?

She did comfort him.

Gu Chenxi is spreading rumors.

Gu Chenxis expression remained grim: You didnt call me baby.

Such a strange thing to focus on.

Weve broken up, why would I call you baby?

Then she raised her hand, pointing at Gu Chenxi to cut off his response while adding: Youre the one who said we should break up.

Gu Chenxis imposing aura instantly deflated.

He grasped the hand she was pointing at him with, pulling it toward himself, and murmured: Then lets get back together, baby.
