Chapter 46: Did You Notify Her About Dating Her

Encouraged by Ye Jin, Gu Qingyang set off full of ambition.

Watching Gu Qingyang’s retreating figure, Ye Jin struggled to hold back her laughter, her face brimming with amusement.

When she turned around, she noticed Gu Chenxi staring at her.

His eyes were filled with deep skepticism.

If Gu Chenxi could speak, he would definitely ask her: Why deliberately cause trouble for Guan Yan?

Ye Jin let out an exaggerated sigh and explained, Staying immersed in sadness isn’t good for recovery.

But the doubt in Gu Chenxi’s eyes still hadn’t faded.

He probably wanted to ask: So?

Ye Jin seamlessly continued, So I’m giving Auntie some entertainment.

It was just a pity she couldn’t witness the amusing scene firsthand.

Ye Jin felt a slight regret in her heart but walked briskly toward Gu Chenxi’s car.

Assistant Ye’s mischievous streak seemed to have emerged again.

Gu Chenxi shook his head helplessly and followed her.

—

The moment Ye Jin returned home, she faced accusations.

The system said resentfully: You went a bit too far today, advertising so openly.
Don’t worry, Ye Jin comforted, Gu Qingyang doesn’t have a driver’s license, so he can’t buy a used car.

The system persisted: But what if Gu Qingyang actually searches for it?
It continued to press relentlessly.

Right.

So Ye Jin also asked thoughtfully: What would happen if Gu Qingyang really found out?

Well it’s hard to say.
The system suddenly hesitated.

After a long silence, it finally said: Anyway, it wouldn’t be good.
This was the first time Ye Jin heard the system mention such sensitive matters, so she listened attentively, but the system stopped halfway.

Okay, I’ll take it more seriously from now on, Ye Jin tried to reason with the system. But we can’t give up eating for fear of choking, right? I’d get really anxious if I couldn’t earn money.

The system:

Ye Jin seemed determined to threaten it with the word anxiety for life.

But it was indeed threatened.

It had no choice but to compromise: Then be more careful from now on.
Then it couldn’t help complaining: You’re too bold, interfering with the plot development and disrupting the story order. If things go wrong, there will be consequences beyond your imagination.
This was what worried the system most about Ye Jin.

Ye Jin: Isn’t this also to complete our mission?

She explained her plan to the system: After I sort out the Gu family matters, I’ll recruit Shu Lingxi. Then I’ll be a love guardian, protecting them as they have a sweet romance.

It sounded reasonable.

The system wavered slightly.

Ye Jin’s phone suddenly rang.

Yan Rong to Ye Jin:

Good evening, was work smooth today?

If anything upset you, feel free to share with me.

The system saw it and repeated sarcastically: Feel~ free~ to~ share~ with~ me~
Then it snorted coldly: You’re the one having a sweet romance first.
No, how could that be?

Ye Jin instinctively refuted while holding her phone, then paused and began to ponder.

Yan Rong, usually reserved, had been sending her greeting messages every day recently.

Something was off.

Ye Jin asked the system: Do you think I’m dating him?

System: You contact him every night, giggling foolishly while holding your phone, and even want to discuss parallel worlds with him. If this isn’t dating, what is?
Ye Jin: That’s slander.

The conversation ended on an unpleasant note.

Ye Jin left the system behind to wash up. After brushing her teeth and washing her face, she stood there with droplets of water on her face, lost in thought.

She knew very well that she hadn’t entertained even the slightest thought of dating.

But she wasn’t sure about Yan Rong.

Ye Jin pulled out a facial towel to wipe away the water, still immersed in her thoughts, carefully reviewing their interactions.

The house was particularly quiet tonight.

The system wisely didn’t disturb her, afraid of provoking Ye Jin’s temper.

Lying in bed.

Ye Jin stared at the ceiling for another ten minutes of internal conflict before deciding to test the waters personally.

Ye Jin to Yan Rong:

Good evening. Work went smoothly today. In the evening, I went with President Gu to visit Madam at the hospital.

Madam’s spirits were somewhat low, but everything else was fine.

I’m quite tired tonight, so I’m going to sleep now, baby

The light from the phone screen illuminated Ye Jin’s face – completely alert and calm, without any trace of sleepiness.

In the last sentence of the email, she deliberately didn’t put a period after the word baby.

If Yan Rong questioned the term baby, she could reply tomorrow: I was too tired and accidentally typed ‘baby’ instead of ‘bye bye.’ So sorry.

Email sent.

Ye Jin lay flat on her back, wide awake, waiting for the response.

Yan Rong to Ye Jin:

Good night.

Just two words.

It seemed she had overthought things.

Ye Jin felt relieved, turned off her phone, and prepared to sleep.

Suddenly, her phone chimed again.

Yan Rong to Ye Jin:

Baby.

Ye Jin’s squinting eyes instantly widened.

Damn you, getting shy now.

Ye Jin felt a surge of frustration stuck in her chest – neither rising nor falling – making her so uncomfortable she gritted her teeth.

She wished she could drag Yan Rong out right now and beat him up.

In the end, Ye Jin was so angry she couldn’t sleep all night.

It was hard to count how many times Gu Chenxi had checked his phone this morning.

It remained silent, without any messages.

There were still over forty minutes before his scheduled departure for the company.

After receiving Assistant Ye’s email yesterday, he hadn’t been able to sleep at all.

He simply got up to handle work.

But his efficiency was low, frequently finding his thoughts wandering elsewhere.

What was Assistant Ye doing now? Was she awake?

Gu Chenxi picked up his black coffee and drank it in one gulp, notified Li Yong that he didn’t need to pick him up, went downstairs to the garage, selected a car, and drove to the company himself.

6:00 AM, before the morning rush hour began.

Gu Chenxi arrived at the company smoothly. The President’s Office was still empty.

Assistant Ye’s workstation was neat and tidy, piled with documents that needed processing this morning.

In her work, she was always impeccable and completely reliable.

But Gu Chenxi was certain this wasn’t why he had developed feelings for Assistant Ye.

Gu Chenxi stared blankly at Ye Jin’s workstation.

Only when the elevator dinged from the other side did he snap out of it, turning to enter his office as if to cover his distraction.

Outside the office.

An employee was exclaiming Oh no, oh no while rushing to their workstation to turn on the computer.

Gu Chenxi looked down at his watch.

One hour and eight minutes until Assistant Ye arrived at the company.

7:30 AM, Ye Jin appeared in the President’s Office, looking both exhausted and irritated.

Last night, she finally managed to fall asleep, only to be tormented by nightmares of Yan Rong returning all night long.

Just as she had shaken him off, the alarm clock woke her up.

When she opened her phone, there was a good morning message from Yan Rong.

Damn, I want to die.

Even more, I want to kill him.

By the time she reached the company, Ye Jin still hadn’t replied to him.

Listlessly, she booted up her computer, planning to brush him off casually, but as soon as she opened it, she immediately received another email.

Yan Rong to Ye Jin:

Baby, are you feeling unwell today?

Ye Jin nearly spat out a mouthful of blood.

Baby, baby.

Baby my ass.

Ye Jin took a few deep breaths before barely calming her emotions.

Ye Jin to Yan Rong:

I’m fine, just a bit tired. Probably didn’t sleep well last night.

For now, she’d brush it off and keep Yan Rong steady.

The plot was at a critical stage, and she had to keep a close watch and participate in the Gu family affairs.

Yan Rong must not be recalled now.

As for the rest

She needed more time to sort things out properly.

Ye Jin just couldn’t understand.

How did Yan Rong suddenly start dating her? Did he even inform her?

So rude!

After organizing her thoughts, Ye Jin first handled her work, then gathered a few colleagues to discuss the equity transfer matter.

The boss treated us to coffee, a colleague whispered to Ye Jin. It’s from that place you always drink from, Assistant Ye. Let’s go pick one.

Ye Jin was puzzled: Don’t we have a coffee machine in the office? The colleague shrugged, indicating they didn’t know either.

Let’s go. Ye Jin set aside her current work and said bluntly, Only fools pass up freebies.

The breakroom counter was neatly lined with rows of coffee.

Apparently, Boss Gu had ordered it and asked the admin department to deliver it.

Ye Jin selected her usual flavor and casually asked: Did Boss Gu get one for himself?

The people around her shook their heads uniformly.

They wouldn’t dare approach Boss Gu.

Well, she’d expected as much.

Ye Jin took a sugar-free latte for Gu Chenxi, knocked on his office door, and placed the coffee by his hand.

Boss Gu, Ye Jin said, Your coffee.

Mm.

Gu Chenxi was reviewing some Project materials filled with professional terminology that appeared obscure and difficult.

Noticing this, Ye Jin casually remarked: I’ve reviewed this document too. I think this point, and this one here, are both crucial sections, but the descriptions are vague. There might be attempts to falsify information for funding.

While delivering the coffee, Ye Jin stood at Gu Chenxi’s side.

She pointed out the flaws she’d noticed and began sharing her thoughts with him.

What could she do?

She was stuck with a boss who rarely spoke.

To ensure work proceeded smoothly, she had to anticipate everything before her boss did.

Gu Chenxi: Mm.

He had noticed these issues Assistant Ye mentioned too.

However, his mind wasn’t really on these documents at all right now.

Gu Chenxi picked up the coffee and took a sip, his Adam’s apple trembling slightly as he swallowed.

His inner turmoil didn’t match his calm exterior.

Completely unaware of his unusual behavior, Ye Jin asked: I’ve made some general annotations on my copy. Would you like me to make a copy for you?

Gu Chenxi: No need.

Assistant Ye was too considerate.

But truthfully, he could handle most situations himself.

Back when there was no Assistant Ye, Vastness hadn’t gone bankrupt.

Ye Jin held back for a long moment.

Finally, she couldn’t restrain herself anymore.

Three sentences, she said.

Gu Chenxi: ?

Ye Jin added, Boss, you’ve already spoken three consecutive sentences, and they were a full four words long.

She held up four fingers.

Gu Chenxi: ……

Why on earth was she counting how many words he’d said?

Ye Jin also felt she was being rather pointless and said, Boss, if you’re busy, I’ll go handle my work too.

Her expression wasn’t great.

The exhaustion on her face couldn’t be hidden no matter how hard she tried.

Gu Chenxi glanced at her, then glanced again.

It wasn’t until Ye Jin’s figure disappeared from the office that Gu Chenxi fully withdrew his gaze.

Assistant Ye seemed to be in low spirits, probably for the same reason he hadn’t slept well.

Baby.

Such an embarrassing term.

His slender fingers rubbed his burning ears.

Thankfully he only had to type it in an email.

If he had to say it out loud in person, he definitely wouldn’t be able to get it out.

Assistant Ye would probably be disappointed.
