Chapter 106: Lucky Isn’t Like You…

Weekend.

Ye Jin stared at the garden before her, lost in thought.

The traditional Chinese medicine practitioner she had imagined prescribing medicinal cuisine for health restoration was supposed to be a white-bearded elderly gentleman practicing in a traditional hospital.

She never expected it to be someone running a restaurant.

What are you thinking about?

Gu Chenxi’s voice came from behind.

Immediately, she was embraced from behind.

The person behind her buried his face in the crook of her neck, taking a shallow breath with evident fascination.

Mind your image, President Gu, Ye Jin reminded him. We’re in public.

Gu Chenxi’s voice whispered near her ear: I’d be happier if you called me husband.

He was getting carried away.

Ye Jin didn’t respond verbally, instead answering with a backward elbow strike.

She didn’t hold back at all, jabbing into his soft abdomen where the muscles instantly tensed and hardened.

A pained grunt sounded in her ear.

My mistake, Gu Chenxi conceded softly.

Ye Jin snorted inwardly.

His words might sound apologetic, but he didn’t actually think he’d done anything wrong.

Lately, they had been getting along quite harmoniously, causing Gu Chenxi’s unruly nature to resurface.

But he knew when to rein it in.

After receiving that elbow strike from Ye Jin, he voluntarily released her and moved to stand by her side.

Don’t worry, Gu Chenxi said. Auntie is quite healthy now.

Mm.

Ye Jin nodded in agreement.

It was normal for the body to be somewhat depleted after recovering from a serious illness.

Cheng Jinhua’s suddenly whitened hair had long proven this point.

With her mind still wandering, Ye Jin silently linked arms with Gu Chenxi and leaned against him.

She was actually quite fortunate.

She had encountered the system, and also Gu Chenxi.

Although Gu Chenxi’s daily behavior was problematic, he was handsome, wealthy, and reliable when it mattered.

Nobody’s perfect.

She couldn’t ask for much more.

Having mentally criticized Gu Chenxi thoroughly, Ye Jin felt much more relaxed.

Let’s go, Mom will come looking for us soon, Ye Jin said, pulling Gu Chenxi toward the private room.

Today’s pulse reading and food tasting had taken most of the day.

Cheng Jinhua had already put down her chopsticks. Seeing them return together, her eyes shone with gratifying appreciation.

Back already?

Just from their appearance alone, the two made a perfect match. Every time they appeared together, she found them a pleasure to behold.

Mom.

Ye Jin moved closer to Cheng Jinhua and asked, How did you find the food?

Cheng Jinhua nodded: Quite good. You’ve both put in a lot of effort.

Her daughter’s success had allowed her to live like a wealthy lady in her later years.

While the children were away, Cheng Jinhua had specifically asked the waitstaff and learned that their medicinal cuisine therapy package cost over a hundred thousand per month.

Moreover, it would be delivered to their doorstep punctually every day.

Your health is more important than anything, Mom.

Ye Jin held nothing back from Cheng Jinhua, stating bluntly, Just enjoy the meals without worrying about the cost.

Understood.

Cheng Jinhua looked at her daughter with amusement.

She must be earning quite well, judging by how confidently she carried herself.

Since starting the daily medicinal cuisine without interruption, Cheng Jinhua’s energy had visibly improved.

Ye Jin went downstairs to walk the dog and date Gu Chenxi.

Auntie still awake?

Not yet. Ye Jin held Lucky’s leash with one hand and Gu Chenxi’s hand with the other.

She lightly swung their connected hands and casually said, Watching TV while knitting.

Can I rest assured about your business trip now? Gu Chenxi squeezed her hand.

…I told you already. Ye Jin emphasized with displeasure, I informed my mom last week.

It wasn’t like she was that much of a mama’s girl.

Gu Chenxi was making her out to be worse than she was.

Alright, my mistake.

Gu Chenxi apologetically suppressed a smile and bent to hug her.

Ye Jin had flown with Gu Chenxi many times, but she consistently adored the small complimentary items in first class—tiny and convenient for casual use.

By the time the plane landed, her bag was stuffed full.

Gu Chenxi reached out to touch it, but Ye Jin deftly dodged.

She asked with slight wariness, What are you doing?

Gu Chenxi leaned closer, took the bag for her, and glanced over to ask, What did you think?

I thought you were going to throw my things away.

She deliberately made Gu Chenxi out to be the bad guy.

Wouldn’t do that.

Gu Chenxi reached out to hold her hand, Let’s go.

When it came to daily trivialities, he was particularly unfazed; even when faced with Ye Jin’s accusations, he’d deny them in a mild tone.

His goal was clear: he just wanted to be with her.

Let’s go.

Ye Jin seemed to buy into this approach too—many things could be glossed over with nonsense; no need to take them too seriously.

She curled her lips, placed her hand in his, and they walked off hand in hand.

They arrived at the hotel in the morning.

After lunch, Ye Jin returned to her room for a nap.

She was woken by a kiss.

Gu Chenxi had somehow made his way into her room.

Hmm? What’s up? Ye Jin asked, opening her eyes.

I have to go to work. Gu Chenxi gave another light peck and murmured.

Go ahead.

Ye Jin stroked his handsome jaw and bid farewell, See you tonight.

Mhm.

He lowered his head for another kiss.

He was really being clingy.

Ye Jin couldn’t help but laugh, What would your subordinates think if they saw you like this?

Don’t care.

Ye Jin hissed, Last time I called you Xixi and baby in the office, why did you blush?

He’d flushed from his neck all the way to his ears, not even daring to look up at her.

Wasn’t it because he was embarrassed?

Gu Chenxi paused, glanced at her, tightened his arms to hold her closer, and said, Just excited.

Fine, that was so Gu Chenxi.

With all his fussing, Ye Jin was wide awake now.

President Gu. Ye Jin had to remind him, Aren’t you forgetting something?

What?

You have to go to work!

Only then did Gu Chenxi reluctantly leave.

Ye Jin got up as well, opening her laptop in the study to start working.

Once busy, she lost track of time until Gu Chenxi called to ask what she wanted for dinner, and she noticed it was already dark outside.

They had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Then, out of habit, they strolled outside hand in hand for a while before heading upstairs.

Gu Chenxi suggested having a drink.
Ye Jin shook her head without hesitation, No.

Don’t trust me? Gu Chenxi asked.

I don’t trust myself.

She still remembered the time she got drunk and harassed him.

Gu Chenxi chuckled, set down the red wine, and sat beside her.

With a long reach, he pulled Ye Jin into his embrace.

We’re engaged… Gu Chenxi hesitated as he whispered in her ear, Does that mean we can do that kind of thing?

Ye Jin: Are you proposing?

Mm.

Sort of.

Too perfunctory, Ye Jin said. I refuse.

Just because it’s perfunctory?

If she was only rejecting the proposal because it was too hasty…

Gu Chenxi’s eyes gradually darkened, clearly lost in some kind of contemplation.

His ability to take action had always been unquestionable.

But Ye Jin hadn’t meant it that way at all, so she quickly interrupted Gu Chenxi’s train of thought, saying, Even without being engaged, we can still do that kind of thing.

As soon as the words left her mouth, Ye Jin felt the breathing by her ear grow heavier.

Really?

Gu Chenxi’s tone suddenly deepened, the desire in his throat barely suppressed.

Really.

Ye Jin’s tone was lighthearted, completely unguarded around him.

Before Gu Chenxi could make a move, she added, But I don’t want to do that kind of thing right now.

The scorching breath instantly stilled.

Ye Jin. Gu Chenxi called her name in a low voice, then said with restraint, I’m not Lucky.

Huh? What do you mean?

Don’t tease me like I’m a dog.

Ye Jin couldn’t hold back and threw her head back with laughter.

Turning to see Gu Chenxi’s gritted-teeth expression, she reached out and scratched his chin, her dog-petting technique quite skilled.

She said laughingly, Lucky isn’t nearly as easy to fool as you are.

Gu Chenxi gave her a long-suffering look.

Alright, enough joking. Ye Jin knew when to stop. We have to wake up early tomorrow to visit the exhibition, so let’s get some sleep.

Mm.

After giving a slap, one must offer a sweet date.

Ye Jin leaned down and kissed him. Goodnight, President Gu.

Goodnight.

Gu Chenxi closed his eyes and accepted the kiss.

He was still so easy to coax.
